ECG BASICS Dr.G.VENKATA RAMANA MBBS DNB FAMILY MEDICINE

Make the ECG recording at a paper speed of 25 mm/s and a gain setting of 10 mm/mV

How to Perform an ECG recording? Explain the procedure to the patient and obtain their consent Ensure the patient is comfortable P repare the skin before applying the electrodes R emoval of chest hair S kin cleansing P lace the electrodes correctly

Posterior leads Leads V7-9 are placed on the posterior chest wall in the following positions: V7  – Left posterior axillary line, in the same horizontal plane as V6 V8  – Tip of the left scapula, in the same horizontal plane as V6 V9  – Left paraspinal region, in the same horizontal plane as V6

ECG machines record the electrical activity of the heart They also pick up the activity of other muscles, such as skeletal muscle, but are designed to filter this out as much as possible Encouraging patients to relax during an ECG recording helps to obtain a clear trace

HOW TO TAKE ECG IN DEXTROCARDIA? Record ECG with the chest electrodes positioned in a mirror image on the right side of the chest Labelled clearly with V3R, V4R etc. to demonstrate that right-sided chest electrodes have been used Reverse the limb electrodes too
