Today's Agenda : Single phase wiring Three Phase Wiring Introduction Difference Between Single And Three Phase Advantage of Single Phase Over Three Phase Conclusion

INTRODUCTION Wiring is the network of wires used in an electrical system, device, or circuit . Domestic electric appliances lights, fans, washing machines, water pumps, etc are connected to the supply through insulated wires which are controlled by switches. Types of wiring and systems based on it uses.

SINGLE PHASE WIRING The single phase required two wires for completing the circuit, the conductor and the neutral. Power is not delivered at a constant rate. Design is less complex. It is mostly used for running the small appliances like fan, cooler, grinder, light etc.

THREE PHASE WIRING The three phase required three conductor wires for completing the circuit. Some three-phase power supplies do use a fourth wire, which is a neutral wire . Power is delivered at a constant rate. Design is complex. There are two types of connection It is mostly used for running the small appliances like fan, cooler, grinder, light etc.

SINGLE PHASE vs THREE PHASE Base Single Phase Three Phase Wave shape Wire needed 2 3 or 4 Voltage 220 V 400 V Power transfer capability Minimum Maximum Network Simple Complicated Power Loss Maximum Minimum Efficiency Less High Economical Less More Uses For home appliances For running heavy loads

ADVANTAGES OF 1- Φ OVER 3- Φ The cost to install and maintain is lower. Single phase load can be run in 3 phase system. Size of 3 phase operated system is less. Three phase system can transmit more power compared to single phase. Produce power at constant rate. If fault occurs, in single phase line the whole system will be shut down, but on three phase the other two line will provide power supply. Three phase motor are self started while single p hase motor not. Three phase system have better power factor compared to single phase system.
