lesson 8 Drama, like fiction, is another classification of literature. It also deals With storylines and shares literary almost the same literary elements and techniques. Characters is one of the elements of a drama.
lesson 9 A drama is a type of writing , which is artistically presented with dialogues. It is a type of literature that takes advantages of people’s visual and auditory senses. It is not limited to what read and imagine like in poetry and fiction, but it brings your imagination to life. Drama provides a live setting where the characters (actors) are real and demonstrates the story in natural way. You see and hear everything right before your very eyes. This is the reason drama is entertaining to most visual learners.
1 10 One of the elements of a drama/play is characters. Characters are people, animals, or even ideas that are portrayed by the actors in a play or drama. Characters are what make stories. Without them, there is no story to tell, only a lot of scenery. CLEOPATRA ROMEO AND JULIET
2 11 The characters in a play/drama can generally be divided into major characters and minor characters, depending on how important they are in the plot. A good indicator as to wether a character is major or minor is the amount of time and speech as well as the presence on stage, he/she is allocated. Major characters in a drama /play include the protagonists and antagonists. Protagonists are the main characters, around which the ahole story of drama/play revolves. An advocate or a champion of a particular cause/idea, such as Annie, Anastacia, Jean Valjean in Les Miserables or Kim in Miss Saigon. They are all vital and serve as the center of the story.
3 12 On the other hand, antagonists are characters who actively oppose or hostile to protagonists. They are principal source of conflict. For the leading characters like Gaston for Beast, Ursula for for Ariel, Inspector Javier for Jean Valjean, Scar for Simba and Jaffar for Alladin .
4 13 Round characters can be associated with characters who are complex. They can be both likeable because they have a diverse set of attitudes, behaviors and beliefs. However, flat characters are characters who reveal who reveal only one, maybe two personality traits (one/two dimensional) in a drama or play and the trait(s) do not change.
3 14 Dynamic characters are characters that change during the course story drama. They change in outlook or disposition and they are also called as developing characters. On the contrary , static characters a re the ones that do not change all troughout the storyline.
4 15 Foil is a character whose behavior and values contrast with the main character’s or protagonist’s and who thus serves to highlight that main character’s distinctive temparament or a key quality (not necessarily the antagonist).
