EXOGENIC PROCESS WEEK 5-LESSON 5
It include geological phenomena and processes that originate externally to the Earth’s surface. They are genetically related to the atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere, and therefore to processes of weathering, erosion, transportation, deposition, and denudation. EXOGENIC PROCESS
Activity 1: Organize the disordered letters. Describe each term briefly . 1 . 2 . 3. N A I O T G D I S I N T E R 4 . 5. P O I C M O N I O T S D E E I M N D S E T S E I G N O S U S K O R C
Activity 1 1 . 2 . 3. 4 . 5. R O C K S I G N E O U S S E D I M E N T S D I S I N T E G R A T I O N D E C O M P O S I T I O N For the brief description, answer may vary among students’ perceptions.
Instructions: 1. Prepare the needed materials: two pieces of paper and match. 2. Tear one paper, observe, and record your answer. 3. Burn the other paper (with teacher supervision), observe, and record your answer. 4. Based on your observation, differentiate the changes after tearing and burning. Activity 2: Differentiate physical changes from chemical changes.
Tearing of paper Burning of paper Before Before After After physical changes VS. chemical changes
Picture analysis For numbers 1-3, identify the factors of physical weathering. 1. Human Activities 2 . Frost Wedging 3. Burrowing Animals
Picture analysis For numbers 4-5 , identify the chemical reaction that causes weathering. 4 . Dissolution 5.Oxidation
It is the process of disintegration (physical) and decomposition (chemical) of rocks. It is a process of breaking down rocks into small particles such as sand, clay, gravel and other fragments. There are two types of weathering: mechanical weathering and chemical weathering. weathering
It is the breakdown of rocks into pieces without any change in its composition. In this process, the size and shape of rocks occurs because of the following factors: Pressure Temperature Frost Wedging Abrasion Organic Activity Human Activities Burrowing Animals Mechanical/physical weathering
In chemical weathering, there are changes in the composition of rocks due to the following chemical reactions: o Dissolution o Hydrolysis o Oxidation Chemical weathering
Weathering is an important process in the formation of soil. Soil is a mixture of grains, organic matter, H2O, and gas. Plants, animals, and humans play an important role in the erosional process. Erosion is the separation and removal of weathered rocks due to different agents like water, wind, and glacier that causes transportation of the material to where they are deposited.
Task: Soil is an essential component of the earth’s crust. It enabled life to exist and provides the services necessary for human survival. What is the effect of soil erosion? What will you do to protect the community? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
