Opening Prayer Heavenly Father, We thank You for this new day. Thank You for the gift of life, for our teachers, classmates, and school. Bless our minds and hearts so we may learn with wisdom and joy. Guide our teachers as they share their knowledge, and help us to listen and understand. May everything we do today bring honor to You. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

E nabling and Inhibiting D imensions of Technology

Note: Feel free to take notes, highlight keywords, and raise clarifying questions anytime.

Vocabularies: Technology – the use of science and tools to solve problems in daily life. Information Technology (IT) – using computers and networks to store, share, and process information. Enabling – making something possible or easier. Inhibiting – stopping or limiting something from happening. Social Media – online platforms where people share ideas, photos, videos, and communicate. Digital Literacy – the ability to use technology and the internet responsibly and effectively. Cybersecurity / Security Breach – protecting computers, phones, and data from hacking or theft. Cheating (in digital form) – using technology to copy or get unfair advantage in exams/assignments. Addiction (to technology) – being overly dependent on gadgets or social media. Global Issue – problems that affect many countries (like online misinformation, cybercrime, privacy). Tangible – something you can touch. Intangible – something you cannot touch (like information or digital data). Twenty-first century skills – modern abilities like problem-solving, critical thinking, and digital literacy needed today.

Enabling dimensions → how technology empowers society (education, business, health, communication). Inhibiting dimensions → how technology limits or harms (distraction, dependency, ethical risks). Key Concepts

Examples: Education – Students use Google Classroom or Zoom to continue learning even during typhoons or pandemics. Business – Small entrepreneurs sell products on Facebook Marketplace or Shopee, reaching more customers. Health – Doctors provide telemedicine consultations through apps, helping patients in remote areas. Communication – Families separated by work abroad connect instantly via video calls (Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp). Accessibility – Persons with disabilities use text-to-speech apps or prosthetic technology to study or work. Enabling Dimensions (How Technology Empowers Society)

Examples: Distraction – Students get hooked on Mobile Legends or TikTok instead of doing homework. Dependency – Some can’t solve simple math without a calculator or can’t navigate without Google Maps. Ethical Risks – Using AI chatbots or copy-paste answers from the internet to cheat in assignments. Privacy & Security – Oversharing on social media can lead to hacking or scams. Health Risks – Too much screen time causes eye strain, sleep problems, and reduced focus. Inhibiting Dimensions (How Technology Limits or Harms)

Is technology neutral, or does it shape behavior by design? Do you think social media empowers democracy, or weakens it? Which matters more: the convenience tech brings, or the risks it creates? Questions:

Case Study Analysis By group with a case (e.g., TikTok addiction, AI in exams, telemedicine). Task: Analyze enabling vs inhibiting aspects. Deliverable: 5-minute group report (like a mini-conference presentation).

Reflection + Synthesis (10 minutes) Reflective writing: In my own life, when does technology enable me, and when does it inhibit me? How can I balance the benefits and risks of technology as a future professional?

Short Quiz: Part I. Identification (Write the correct term.) It means making something possible or easier. It is the ability to use computers and the internet responsibly and effectively. Problems that affect many countries, such as cybercrime and online misinformation. The use of science and tools to solve problems in daily life. Something that cannot be touched, like information or digital data.

Part II. True or False Write True if the statement is correct, and False if it is incorrect. 6. Social media is an example of information technology. 7. Technology is always good and never has negative effects. 8. A security breach happens when private information is accessed without permission. 9. Technology can both enable learning and also distract students from studying. 10. Tangible things are those that can be touched.

Answer: 1. Enabling 2. Digital Literacy 3. Global Issue 4. Technology 5. Intangible 6. True 7. False 8. True 9. True 10. True

Assignment: Beyond the Walls Choose one (1) current event and compare the information to different news reports. This is good for 5 points. (TV Patrol, Rappler, GMA News, TV 5, etc.)
