Engagement
actions
What, why and how

What is an
engagement action?

A piece of content that invites your
supporters to actively engage with you

In a way that isn’t primarily to do with
campaigning or fundraising.

Can you experience it with your hands in
your lap (and without voice dictation)?

If yes, then it’s not engagement

Why bother?

Engagement actions can achieve a lot
●Build empathy
●Build supporters’ knowledge of the issue
●Build supporters’ knowledge of your organisation
●Learn more about your supporters & their
motivations
●Create a sense of community
●…

In one welcome journey we saw that
people taking a campaigning or
engagement action were
4-5 x as likely to become donors
Engagement actions can achieve a lot

Get creative

●Look at your journey and identify opportunities
for audience-focused content
●Work out what supporter need you’re looking to
meet
●Do a content audit to see what you already have
●Run a creative idea generation session with your
wider team
Take the time to get creative!

Creative processes are a whole topic
themselves. Recommended reading:
