Lecture-1 (Part-2) Basics: Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures 1 CE 701: Introduction to Analysis of Statically Determinarte Structures Lectured by, Md. Asaduzzaman Rasel Lecturer Department of Civil Engineering, World University of Bangladesh

Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures Overview of supports and their properties References Outline of the Lecture 2 CE 701: Introduction to Analysis of Statically Determinarte Structures Lecture 2: Basics: Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures

Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures 3 CE 701: Introduction to Analysis of Statically Determinarte Structures What is meant by a support? A support is an element which bears the weight of a beam and keeps it upright. Simply we can say that it is a thing which keeps beam in Equilibrium. Lecture 2: Basics: Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures

4 CE 701: Introduction to Analysis of Statically Determinarte Structures Basing on the concept how they are supporting the beam they are classified into 4 types 1. Fixed Support 2. Simple Support 3. Roller Support 4. Hinged Support Types of Supports Lecture 2: Basics: Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures

5 CE 701: Introduction to Analysis of Statically Determinarte Structures Types of Supports >>FIXED SUPPORT Fixed Support and Reactions and Applications in a Structure Fixed supports are also called as rigid supports. Fixed supports are restrained against both rotation and translation so they can resist any type of force or moment. In structural analysis, there are three unknowns to find for fixed support which can satisfy all the three equations of equilibrium. To provide good stability to the structure, at least one rigid support should be provided. Beam fixed in wall is a good example for fixed support. ` Lecture 2: Basics: Types of Supports and Reactions and Their Applications in Structures
