The said examples are examples of TEXTUAL AIDS. What are Textual Aids?
Textual aids refer to non-textual elements that help readers understand the content of the text. They also refer to elements that stand-out from the main text such as titles and subtitles, bold, italicized and underlined texts. Non-textual elements include illustrations , maps , tables , graphs and charts .
Based on the video, what are Textual Aids?
These aids have two main functions, namely: to direct the readers’ attention to important ideas in the text and to provide more information as a supplement to what is already written.
KNOWING ABOUT TEXTUAL AIDS: A GALLERY WALK
Each of you will be grouped into three. There are posted materials around the classroom. Each of you will be given two minutes per area to read the posted material and answer the question on it. Make sure to keep your voice to a minimum. You can only move from one area to the next after the time is up.
Activity MAKING USE OF TEXTUAL AIDS
Each of you will be given hands-out about Climate Change. With your understanding about the different types of textual aids, identify what textual aids can be used in the article and what are not. Point out the reasons why it can be used or why it cannot be used. Write your answer on the given handout.
Activity PEER EDITING
Exchange your works with your seatmates. Examine your classmate’s works and point out some things to improve it. Write your observations at the back part of their handout and write your name as well. You are given 3 minutes to finish this task.
