METHODOLOGY

The methodology of this project is an art-integrated,
research-based radio Podcast which focuses on
narratives, interviews, reports, discussions and online
surveys for an accurate account. This project has a
multi-disciplinary approach.
Depending upon the strategies employed, the podcast
style and technique would vary. The survey conducted
online shall provide the necessary input into the
effectiveness of the podcast content and narrative
way.
The google form which would generate the statistics
data would be color coded through pie-charts and
inferences would be made for each question
separately.
A final handwritten report is to be generated in the
past passive tense, that would sum up the findings of
the research undertaken and the outcomes would be
consolidated. Artistic and aesthetic appeal would be a
great priority in the drafting of project, both in the
layout and presentation.

ACTION PLAN
A topic is selected for the podcast after much
deliberation and discussion with the subject teacher.
The general and specific objectives are obtained, keeping
in view the requirements of the topic selected.
The age group and demographic of the subjects included
in the research are then selected according to the subject
matter.
A questionnaire is then prepared on the Google forms
with 10 Q. and MCQ.
The script of the podcast including the questions to be
asked and the expected responses is drafted.
Several trial and errors of recording podcast is to be done
keeping in mind the time limit of 3mins.
Recording podcast is to be done in a noise cancelled room
with good recording device.
The editing of the podcast is to be done with the
additions of background music, voice overs, songs, etc.
Now recording is played and the soft copy is shared with
the 20 respondents of the questionnaire.
Analysis of data from the survey will be graphically
interpreted is to be done and recorded.
A final hand-written report of the project will be
generated and included in the project file.

Introduction to the Topic
Social media has become a powerful force in the
lives of teenagers, shaping how they connect,
learn, and see themselves and the world around
them. On platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and
Snapchat, teens share experiences, seek
approval, and often compare themselves to
others.
While social media offers ways to express
creativity, stay informed, and build friendships, it
can also affect mental health, self-esteem, and
body image. Studies show that the brain’s reward
systems make teenagers especially sensitive to
social validation, making them more likely to
experience emotional highs and lows tied to
social media.
Understanding how social media influences the
teenage mind is essential for promoting
balanced, healthy usage and addressing potential
risks.

Online Questionnaire
Judging from the responses, 60% of participants believe
that teenagers spend more than 6 hours daily on social
media, while 30% estimate an average of 4–6 hours. This
indicates a general awareness of the high usage levels
among teens, reflecting concerns over the time spent on
these platforms.
The responses were mixed. A notable portion of participants
(45%) expressed uncertainty about social media's impact on self-
esteem. Meanwhile, 35% believe the impact is mostly negative,
suggesting a perception of potential harm, while 20% saw it as
neutral.

Responses show that a significant portion of participants
(45%) feel that teenagers very often compare themselves
to others, with 45% saying this happens sometimes and
almost 10% think rarely. This reflects an understanding that
social media can encourage constant self-comparison.
A majority (55%) of respondents feel that social media
contributes significantly to teenage anxiety and stress.
Meanwhile, 45% believe it contributes only slightly,
indicating an overall recognition of its psychological impact.

63.6% of respondents believe "Entertainment and memes" have
the most influence on teenagers' mental health, while 36.4%
selected "Influencer content and lifestyle posts." This indicates
that entertainment-focused content is perceived as highly
impactful on mental health, with a notable influence also
attributed to influencers.
90.9% of respondents chose Instagram, and 9.1% selected TikTok.
This highlights Instagram as the platform perceived to have the
most significant influence on teenagers, likely due to its popularity
and visual-centric nature.

Judging from the responses, 45.5% of respondents believe
that social media weakens teenagers' social skills, while
18.2% think it improves social skills, and another 18.2% feel
it has no effect. An additional 18.2% of respondents are
unsure. This distribution suggests a prevalent view that
social media might have a negative impact on real-life social
abilities among teenagers.
45.5% of respondents feel that current restrictions are adequate,
while 36.4% support stricter age restrictions for teenagers. 18.2%
think some restrictions might be beneficial. The results indicate a
slight majority who are satisfied with current age restrictions but
also a significant proportion advocating for stricter measures.

Based on the responses, 54.5% of respondents think that
teenagers are "not very aware" of social media risks. 27.3%
believe they are "somewhat aware," while 18.2% feel
teenagers are "very aware." This suggests that over half of
the respondents see a lack of awareness among teenagers
about potential risks.
An overwhelming 81.8% of respondents believe that
parents and guardians should "regularly monitor usage and
set limits." 9.1% think they should "educate on safe usage
but give freedom," and another 9.1% are unsure. This
indicates a strong consensus for active parental
involvement in managing teenagers' social media use.

Analysis
Based on the survey results, my podcast on social
media's impact on teenagers was well-received,
enhancing the audience’s understanding of the
topic. The majority of respondents found the
content insightful, with 80% indicating improved
comprehension. Feedback highlighted
appreciation for discussions on critical topics like
social media's influence on self-esteem, anxiety,
and comparison behaviors.
The analysis showed that 60% were already
somewhat aware of social media's effects, yet the
podcast provided deeper insights into specific
aspects, including content types and platform
influences. Overall, the podcast successfully
raised awareness, encouraging reflection on the
psychological and social implications of social
media on youth.

Learning Outcomes
1. Deepened Understanding of Usage of Social
Media:
The project developed a deeper understanding of
usage of social media its benefit, harms, risks, etc.
2. Survey and Research Skills:
In designing and analyzing a survey, skills in data
collection, interpretation, and presenting in a
coherent format were developed.
3. Podcast Creation and Communication:
I came up with the podcast as a means of making
complex information accessible and improved my
research and communication skills that way.
Student Reflection

It was challenging but, in a way, quite an
insightful task. I had to do a lot of research
about social media like how it is being used
and how it should be used, but it gave me a
great opportunity to try some new skills such
as creating podcasts and conducting surveys.
Reactions according to the survey proved that
the podcast increased the knowledge for its
listeners, and editing and presenting
information in podcast format proved to be
rewarding and instructive on my behalf. I
have greater regard for how media, public
speaking, and historical narratives shape and
mold public opinion.
Limitations

The questionnaire was conducted with a very
limited number of subjects; hence, it cannot
be truly representative of the understanding
of the social media and teenage mind.
The podcast was allowed a maximum of three
minutes; this limited how much information
could actually be provided.
While the podcast and project drew from
various sources, a number of more diverse
materials could have been considered for a
broader perspective, such as documentaries
and academic books.
