Japanese Usual Festival Filipi Butar-Butar /8G/11 Yosua Nathanael /8G/36 Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival/ O-Hanami Matsuri ( おー花見 まつり )

What is O-Hanami Matsuri ? ? ? ? ? In english language, “o- hanami matsuri ” is “cherry blossom viewing festival”. It is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers. “ flower” in this case almost always meaning cherry blossoms (“ sakura ”) or less often plum blossoms (“ ume ”). O- hanami festival is a sakura flower festival which is held to welcome the coming of spring. O- hanami festival is marked by blossoming cherry blossoms.

Cherry blossom viewing festivals can be viewed from January to June in different regions in Japan, but most of cherry blossom festivals fall between March to May. But it usually between mid-March to the beginning of May. in mainland Japan, it depens upon the local climate. It can be held on day or night. For Your Knowledge It is a traditional custom that has taken place for hundreds of years to appreciate the beauty of the flowers. The practice of hanami is a lot of centuries old. The custom said to have started, during the Nara Period ( 710–794), when it was ume blossoms that people admired in the beginning. But by the Heian Period (794–1185 ) sakura came to attract more attention and hanami was synonymous with sakura . From then on, in both waka and haiku, “flowers” meant “ sakura .” When does it held on ? ? ? ?

And drinks such as: For Your Knowledge Sake is an alcoholic beverage of Japanese origin that is made from fermented rice. They even can involve some karaoke singer if the time and mood is right. Especially at night.

For Your Knowledge The cherry blossom front is forecast each year, previously by the Japan Meteorological Agency and now by private agencies, and is watched with attention by those who plan to celebrate hanami because the blossoms last for very little time, usually no more than two weeks. Hanami at night is called yozakura ( 夜桜 ), which means night sakura , and is popular at most places. A lot of people like to head to a hanami spot after work and enjoy the cherry blossoms under the night sky .

In many places such as Ueno Park, temporary paper lanterns are hung for the purpose of yozakura . On the island of Okinawa, decorative electric lanterns are hung at the trees for evening.

Has this festival celebrated in another country ? ? ? ? Hanami festivities have become popular outside of Japan as well, and are now also celebrated in other countries. Smaller hanami celebrations take place in: Yes, it has.

In the United States, hanami has also become very popular. In 1912, Japan gave 3,000 sakura trees as a gift to the United States to celebrate the nations’ friendship. These trees were planted in Washington, D.C., and another 3,800 trees were donated in 1965. These sakura trees continue to be a popular tourist attraction, and every year, the “National Cherry Blossom Festival” takes place when they bloom in early spring.

Hanami is also celebrated in several European countries. For example: in Finland, people gather to celebrate hanami in Helsinki at Roihuvuori . Local Japanese people and companies have donated 200 cherry trees which are all planted in a single park near Roihuvuori . Those cherry trees usually bloom in mid-May.

Suggestion If you want to join cherry blossom viewing festival, You need to get in early for some of the best spots to reserve your position . This involves getting to the area first thing in the morning and placing your picnic sheet down for the day. A lot of people are also really prepared and will bring just about everything including tables, chairs, bbq sets, and karaoke machines .

There are a lot of great places in Japan to see the cherry blossoms, but my personal top 5 would be : Matsumoto Castle in Nagano. It is one of Japan’s most beautiful original castles has around 300 trees planted around grounds of the castle. Yoshino in Nara with over 30,000 trees covering the mountain, it is considered the most famous place in Japan for cherry blossom viewing.

Hikone Castle in Shiga has hundreds of trees planted around the castle grounds and is located next to the picturesque Lake Biwa. Osaka Castle in Osaka has over 4000 trees on its grounds and it is amazing at night when all it up. Uneo Park in Tokyo with over 1000 trees, it is a great spot to enjoy hanami in Tokyo, but is very crowded and noisy during the cherry blossom season.
