Essay Air Pollution
Crafting an essay on the subject of air pollution can be quite challenging, requiring a delicate
balance between scientific accuracy, environmental consciousness, and engaging rhetoric. The
difficulty arises not only from the need to present factual information about the various
pollutants, their sources, and their impact on the environment and human health but also from
the necessity to convey a sense of urgency and a call to action.
The intricacy of the topic lies in the multidimensional nature of air pollution, which encompasses
a wide range of pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and volatile
organic compounds. Each pollutant has its own set of sources, effects, and regulatory measures,
making it essential to navigate through a labyrinth of scientific data while maintaining clarity
and coherence.
Moreover, an effective essay on air pollution should go beyond mere data presentation; it should
also explore the socio-economic factors contributing to pollution, the disproportionate impact on
vulnerable communities, and the global initiatives aimed at mitigating this environmental crisis.
Balancing the technical aspects with a humanistic approach requires a skillful interweaving of
statistics, case studies, and real-life anecdotes.
Additionally, staying updated with the latest research findings, policy changes, and
technological advancements related to air quality adds another layer of complexity to the writing
process. It demands continuous research and critical analysis to ensure that the essay reflects the
most current understanding of the issue.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on air pollution can be intellectually stimulating, it
undeniably presents a formidable challenge. The synthesis of scientific information, social
implications, and a persuasive call to action requires a writer to navigate through a complex web
of knowledge. However, the importance of addressing air pollution and advocating for
sustainable solutions makes the effort worthwhile.

Themes Of Trifles And Jury Of Her Peers
You re Convinced there was nothing important here...Nothing that would point to
any motive? (Glaspell, pg. 5, 1908). In 1916, Glaspell worked for Des Moines
daily news as a reporter where she later met her husband George Cook who was a
play director. Together they wrote and produced plays, two of which are Trifles
and Jury of Her Peers which are based off a crime scene she encountered while
being a reporter. Glaspell s plays are on the feminist side focusing on the roles
women are forced to play in society and their relationships with men. Motive is the
overall theme found in both versions of Glaspell s story and is evidenced through the
Wright s relationship, the anger portrayed in various ways, and finally, regret found in
Mrs. Wright.
Mr. and Mrs. Wright s relationship is connected in both Trifles and Jury of Her
Peers by relating to the overall theme of motive. Mr. Hale was the first outside
witness to know about Mr. Wright s death. He decided to make his way to their dark
home thinking, maybe if I went to the house and talked about it before his wife,
though I said to Harry that I didn t know as what his wife wanted made much
difference to John (Glaspell. pg. 980. 1916). Mr. Hale being a male in this time
period is seen as one who sees women as just home caretakers. Even with this gender
role he notices that something is wrong within the Wright s relationship. Jury of Her
Peers mentions what comes into Mrs. Hale s mind as she looks at the furniture as

All Summer In A Day Setting
All Summer In a Day Essay
An author himself knows his landscape best; he can stand around, smell the wind,
get a feel for his place. Tony Hillman. Ray Bradbury, the author of award winning
fictions such as Fahrenheit 451 and Dark They Were and Golden Eyed , wrote
stories with incredible details. His story All Summer In a Day takes place on the
planet Venus where it is always dark and rainy. All Summer In a Day focuses on the
main character Margot who has moved from Earth; it also focuses on how Margot s
previous life on Earth separates her from the other children. Bradbury uses the
setting on Venus in an array of ways, all of which give the story more depth, he uses
the location to create characters and to set the mood of the ... Show more content on

When describing Venus s landscape Ray writes, Athousand forests had been
crushed under the rain and grown up a thousand times to be crushed again, (page
1). This creates a sense of hopelessness in the reader because the forests can be
interpreted as a metaphor that represents the population of Venus. On Venus all the
children want is to be able to run and play freely in the sunshine. However they are
oppressed by the rain. This can be related to the forests because all though the rain
caused many struggles both the forests and the people went on with life in hopes to
see the sun again. Then, later on in the story the mood changes when the text says,
... they thought the remembered a warmness, like a blushing in the face, in the
body, in the arms and legs and trembling hands, (page 2). By using figurative
language Bradbury helps his audience feel as if they re experiencing these
sensations with the students. The warmth of the sun represents life and compassion
so when the children think they feel it they are content, this makes the audience feel
joyful as well. However the vision of summer soon fades when the author says, ...
they awoke to the tatting drum, the endless shaking down of clear bead necklaces
upon the roof, the walk, the gardens, the forests, and their dreams we re gone, (page

The Accidental Prime Minister By Sanjaya Baru
The Accidental Prime Minister by Sanjaya Baru, published in 2014, is an account
of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh s two terms in office.
Sanjaya Baru was appointed as Media Adviser to Dr. Manmohan Singh during his
first term in UPA 1 from 2004 to 2009. This book is in the form of a political memoir.
The book s narrative follows a chronological format, painting a picture of Dr. Singh s
terms in UPA 1 and UPA 2.
In the introduction to his book, Baru proclaims that none of his predecessors at the
Prime Minister s office ever wrote a full book on his experiences during his tenure.

Manmohan Singh and it is UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and her gaggle of yes men who
are shown up in a poor light. The book does not disparage him in any manner. This
book tries to explain plainly the power equation between Sonia Gandhi and Dr.
Manmohan Singh but does not sensationalize the issue. It only re affirms what the
Indian public knew to be true.
Dr. Manmohan Singh is shown, regrettably, as a helpless, clueless shadow puppet of
Sonia Gandhi who almost arouses our sympathies because of his ineffectiveness in
functioning as the Prime Minister of India. This sad truth was simply being put on
record by the primary witness, ie, Sanjaya Baru, to this political drama.
Baru tell us that Dr Singh was terrified of losing his place in the scheme of things if
he did not kowtow to the High Command, Sonia Gandhi. For Dr. Singh, the Gandhi
family came first, followed by the political party, prime minister s office and, lastly,

Compare and contrast the utility theory of value and the labor theory of value
Many economists tried to explain the source of value of goods and services and find
the best way to measure it. Along with other theories two most popular ones were
created. First of them is the labour theory of value mainly known from the writings of
Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Karl Marx. Despite the fact that their views on
value had minor differences, their main idea was that with few exceptions the
quantity of labour employed on commodities determines the rate at which they will
exchange for each other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Probably the most commonly used and basic economic method to determine prices of
a commodity is the supply and demand method. While this method states that both
demand and supply are equally important and it is their intersection that determines
the price of a good, both theories of value emphasize only one function of this
model. As the advocates of labour theory cared mostly about the inputs of production,
they mainly focused on the supply side. For example, Ricardo mentioned in his letter
to Malthus it is supply which regulates value and supply is itself controlled by
comparative cost of production. (Ricardo, 1951, 279). In contrast the theory of
marginal utility states that it is not the supply but demand that is the main factor in
the supply demand model. This theory emphasizes the importance of the consumer
attitude towards the good and what kind of value does it provide for him. Its
supporters pointed out that despite how much labour is used to provide certain good
or service without demand it will be worthless. The supporters of the utility theory of
value such as Jevons and Menger sometimes ignored supply and based their theories
exclusively on the demand and made assumptions supposing that the rate of supply
was given rather than changing (Landreth Colander, 2001). Thus, while labor theory
suggest that usually supply determines the value of a good, the theory of utility
emphasize the importance of
The Impact Of Louis XIV On France
King Louis XIV and Jean Baptiste Colbert had an important historical impact on
France s economy. Colbert become Finance Minister to Louis XIV in 1665. In the
years before Colbert, the previous minister of finance Mazarin had France in a
turmoil of financial neglect and corruption. Over his lifetime as finance minister,
Colbert brought in new measures with Louis XIV to re establish France as a place
of expanding industry and prosperity. Louis XIV was an absolute monarch. After
the death of Mazarin, Louis XIV, expressed his desire to be the sole ruler of France
and his own prime minister. It is now time that I govern them myself. You
[secretaries and ministers of state] will assist me with your counsels when I ask for
them. I request and order you to seal no orders except by my command, ... I order
you not to sign anything, not even a passport ... without my command. King Louis
XIV 1661 (Spielvogel, 1991, p. 523) When Louis began his absolute rule, he found
that years of warfare had ruined the people s farms and houses. The justice systems
were corrupted and irregular. Theft and murder were incredibly high all over
France. Industry and trade were at a standstill and France was virtually bankrupt
(Richardson, 1973, p. 55) . Before his death Mazarin recommended Colbert to Louis
XIV. Colbert had the interests of France at heart and wanted France to be the best
economic power of Europe. (Rothbard, 1995, p. 246) Unfortunately, Nicolas Fouquet,
the new financier, stood in the
Science of Toys
Introduction
The String Toy is so old that its beginnings are unknown. It is also called either
Thread Spinner or Whirling Button. Fortunately for us, that makes the toy quite
easy to make. It is an ancient mechanical device used for ceremonial purposes and
as a toy. It is an object in the middle of a cord and can be made to buzz by winding
the cord while keeping the end stationary. The object moves by pulling and releasing
the tension on the cord. The most common way that it was made was with a large
button and some string.
History of the toy
As children in the 1950 s, this was a favorite toy. It is interactive and although it
doesn t seem to do much, the hypnotic whirring and the pulling to keep it moving
kept us busy for a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Place one finger of each hand in either end of the loop and twirl the button so that the
string twists. 5. After the string has twisted, jerk both fingers away from the mutton
and hold them still. The string will unwind and then wind itself up in the opposite
direction.
Commercial Status of Toys
Because of the discovery of Button String Toy, the not only the children are interested
in this toy but also the scientists especially physicist who specializes physics
concepts. Scientists are interested in study this toy because they want to figure out
what are the possible mechanisms behind this toy. The children is also interested to
buy this toy because they want to have fun and to test what are features does this toy
have.
Mechanisms
Once you get the rhythm of the motion, you can keepit up for some time. This toy
may not sound like much fun when you read about it,but when you play with it, you
ll find it almost hypnotic and difficult to put down. The button acts as a flywheel. But
in this toy, it stores its spinning energy in the string by twisting it. When the string is
winding up, it is storing potential energy, energy that can be converted to motion at
some time in the future. When you jerk on the string, the potential energy is
converted to motion, or, to be precise, kinetic energy: that is, the button spins in the
other direction. Once the string has unwound, the button continues spinning, and the
kinetic energy begins changing back into potential
Analysis Of The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho
The novel The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho was about a shepherd by the name of
Santiago, who through a dream found where his treasure would lay. The author of
the book Paulo Coelho, was born in Brazil, and has written sixteen books including
The Alchemist, and has sold over one hundred and forty million books worldwide.
What attracted me to the novelwas how there were some supernatural aspects
throughout the book. In addition, the supernatural aspects also made the book more
enjoyable to read, because it was different than the typical self discovery novel, there
was something unique about it. I enjoyed the book, and wanted to continue reading,

A significant factor of the minor characters were to push Santiago forward to look for
his treasure that he dreamt about, even when he felt unmotivated to do so. Also, in
the book there was mainly people that encouraged him to follow after his dreams,
there was no significant antagonist who would discourage himself to not look for
treasure, but himself. Santiago is the protagonist of the novel, he was a shepherd that
didn t want to be trapped in the same place for the rest of his life as a priest, so he
left his family to travel around Spain. The protagonist Santiago, was referred to as
a boy in the novel. His age was never told, but we can assume he s a young adult.
For example, when he was sixteen he told his family that he didn t want to be a
priest, and when he got his father s blessing, he became a shepherd and traveled
around Spain. Furthermore, Santiago had said in the beginning how long he was a
shepherd, so it leaves the audience to guess that he s around eighteen or nineteen, of
the sheep, with whom he had spent the past two years, leading them through the
countryside... (Coelho 4). His appearance was never described throughout the book,
but who he was as a person would prevail in the story. I would describe Santiago as
being determined, headstrong, and curious, he is driven by his own wants and
dreams. Throughout his life, he has always done
The Last Of The Mohicans Essay
In The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper, historical romance is
apparent through settings, characters and plots. Cooper is considered by many
critics to be the father of the American historical romance. Fred Lewis Patee said,
Not only was Cooper the pioneer (of the historical romance) in America, and thus
worthy of the highest praise, but in many respects his romances have never been
surpassed. ; (212) Cooper celebrated the creative spirit of the individual and had a
deep appreciation for nature. He was a romantic who enjoyed the mysteriousness and
exoticness of the frontier. He favored the use of emotions over reason. Through his

He brings the reader into his unblemished world, where everything is pure. The
setting in The Last of the Mohicans shows Cooper s deepened appreciation of nature.
Romanticism is also seen in the characters in the novel. The characters are
manifestly impossible. (Pattee 212) Hawkeye is one of these impossible
characters. He is an ideal character who is pure and untainted by the corruption of
society. Hawkeye, like Cooper, is a romantic in that he has a deep respect for
nature. Cooper uses Hawkeye to celebrate the creative spirit of the individual.
Hawkeye, Chingachgook and Uncas are characters all folklores are about. They
are the heroes that complete impossible task to help others. Cooper also portrays,
in his novel, the stiff upper class society and their true desire to escape to the
frontier. (Magill 448) Cora and Alice represent the stiff, elegant society. The reader
soon sees that under their refined life, they have a wanting to be freed ; from their
upper class society. They want to escape this boring life and be allowed to live.
They see the frontier as this pure, beautiful place where they can be freed of the
control of their society. (448) Cooper uses characters to portray his romanticism.
Romanticism can also be seen in The Last of the Mohicans in the plot. Cooper s
plots favor emotions over reasons. Cooper opens the novel with a historical
atmosphere. However, this does not last for
English As A Symbol Of Power And High Social Status
INTRODUCTION
Education is a nation building and globally inter related activity that unlocks the door
to modernization. It is imparted through formal, informal and non formal ways. For
this purpose, there is a need of interaction among the students, teachers and study
material. Usually, educational system at the primary level follows the medium of
instructions in the mother tongue. But at the secondary level, the students are
required to learn one or two unfamiliar languages i.e. English and Urdu. In Pakistan,
the students have to study English as a compulsory subject from K.G to graduation
level due to the following reasons:
i.English is a mean of understanding the foreign and higher educational work. ii.
English is an international language used in research, commerce, aviation, diplomacy
and source of scientific and technological advancement. iii. English is a symbol of
power and high social status. (Rehman, 2004)
Language is no doubt an essential part of human life. It is used as a means of
communication. Language has been defined in many ways. Some of these are as a
language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbols by means of which a social group
operates (Pahuja, 1994). With the arrival of British in the sub continent, English
replaced the languages of learning and education such as Arabic, Persian and
Sanskrit. A turning point in the socio political history of the sub continent was Lord
Macaulay s decision in 1835 to favour English and bring an end to the
South Park Censorship
Freedom of expression entitles humans to articulate our own unique vocabulary,
especially when their opinions differ from others. South Park is a notorious paragon
tackling censorship boundaries with brilliant wordplay every episode and
implementing freedom of speech. For me, the program serves as a weekly litmus test
of censorship and freedom of expression. South Parkis the brainchild of college
friends Trey Parkerand Matt Stone. This TV show, on the Comedy Central Network,
is a cartoon but not for children. On August 13, 1997, the first airing, South Park
became the first major cable program to get the TV MA rating (for mature audiences

South Park wanted to show homage to the French satirical paper that published
comedic pictures of Muhammad. The creators dedicated 200 and 201 to the paper
after their own convictions; both episodes would feature Muhammad as well.
Comedy Central received threats of extreme violence if the prophet Muhammad
was displayed in any way on the show. The creative group behind South Park was
prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200, Muhammad is in a
truck to include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were
concerned about the approach of giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially
backing down altogether. The boundaries regarding freedom of expression should
not adjust to the whims or threats of bullies otherwise known as terrorists. The
network received more threats of terror and the morning of the airing of 201, the
network censored Muhammad with a giant box all over his face with CENSORED
written on it. There are no copies of 201 uncensored available whatsoever and you
can only watch the episode on the commemorative DVD package of the season.
There is still absolutely no streaming of any kind for either episode, almost 10 years
Federal Government Regulatory Agencies
Question #1: The government in its duties and responsibilities to its citizen
sometimes needs to regulate the behaviors and actions of private citizens or
corporation for the common good. Most of the time regulations are designed by
statute but the enforcement of the statues are carried out by regulatory agencies like
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Election commission
(FEC). Regulatory agencies don t just exist at the federal level either, Federal
regulatory agencies like the FDA and FEC carry out federally mandated regulations
passed down from Congress of the executive branch but the same principle applies at
the Stateand Local levels as well who have regulations passed down from their

At the most basic division, there are three main levels of governments in the United
States; The Federal level, the State level, and the Local level. Each of these levels has
their own legitimacy, their own authority/jurisdiction and most of the time has their
own way wo working with or around the other levels though there is sometimes
clashes. Let s start with Legitimacy first. The Constitution of the United States of
America is the overarching document that gives legitimacy and the authority to
govern to the various governments in the U.S, but specifically the Federal government
. States in the United States also have their own constitutions that they draw
legitimacy and authority from as well as specific regulations. The Constitution also
act a the framework for what the different levels of government are authorized to do,
thought the 14th amendment opened the floodgates on authority for the Federal
government. But in a generalized sense, The federal government acts mostly in the
areas of foreign policy, national defense and any endeavors that cross state
jurisdictions in the U.S, particularly interstate commerce. State governments focus
mostly on directly providing for and regulating goods and services within their state,
along with distributing federal grant money and transferring money to local services.
Local governments almost exclusively provide goods and services within their
jurisdiction and utilize funds from both the federal and state levels. As per the U.S.
Constitution the Federal government has the authority to; Lay and collect taxes,
provide for the common defence, provide for the general welfare, borrow money,
regulate commerce with foreign nations, Indian tribes, and between states, establish
rules of Naturalization, coin money, constitute tribunals to the supreme court,
establish post offices and post roads, deal with
An Inspector Calls Eva Smith Character Analysis
Apart from Mrs. Birling, Priestley in his play An Inspector Calls, conveys women as
very weak and inferior characters; as the play was set in 1912, we can see how
women were stereotypically made to be obedient and loyal to their husbands.
Through the character of Eva Smith the theme of vulnerability is portrayed, and
through the character of Sheila we can see how women are shown as materialistic and
incompetent.
Throughout the play Priestley exhibits the character of Eva Smith as an impuissant
character; she is mentioned very frequently as she highlights the faults of society in
1912 due to the ill excused way she was treated, being inferior to males of her own
class as well as those much wealthier than her. Yet she never makes an appearance in
the play. When she is first mentioned she is portrayed as weak when the ... Show more

From this we can infer that Priestley is portraying women as weak, as if they can
not speak their own mind, therefore Gerald had to talk for her since she could not
do it herself. He goes to open the door while Sheila takes her mother out. Then he
closes it and comes back in, from these stage directions we can see how Priestlety
conveys how the women are too fragile to be involved in important conversations.
The fact that Sheila takes her mother out , as the men stay inside and continue to
discuss, portrays that the women are not only too weak to handle the conversation
but also that they are unimportant in the matter, as they did not need to stay. This
concludes the fact that women are exhibited as insignificant and weak through Sheila
s unimportance and delicate

Introduction
Located near Cowan, Pennsylvania, Conley Run is a tributary of Buffalo Creek that
has experienced severe degradation due to agricultural activity. Specifically, the
deposition of large amounts of animal wastes, pesticides, and fertilizers has resulted
in significant eutrophication throughout the stream. Furthermore, bank degradation
associated with the movement of livestock has caused the displacement of foreign
sediments into stream habitats. These factors, among many others, have caused the
lake to be considered impaired by PA DEP. In response, the Buffalo Creek Watershed
Alliance, the the Union County Conservation District, and the Department of
Environmental Protection and Fish and Boat Commision have partnered in an effort
to restore stream habitat and create a riparian buffer to protect the stream.
A separate tributary of Buffalo Creek, known as Stony Run, lies upstream from
Conley Run. Since it is located in a dense wooded area with little to no agricultural
interference, Stony Run has experienced very little degradation in comparison to
Conley Run. However, Stony Run also shares a number of similar physical
characteristics with Conley Run, such as discharge, watershed area, elevation and
slope. Therefore, it will serve as a reference stream for this study.
The objective of this study was to assess the stream habitat quality

One s understanding of belonging can broaden their understanding and acceptance of

Therefore, Gaita demonstrates how his cultural upbringing in Australia has enriched
his relationship with his father, allowing him to connect to the Australian landscape,
just like Romulus does with the European landscape.
Similarly in The Kite Runner, Amir struggles to find a connection with his father,
Baba. According to Amir, their bond was a fundamental basis of their lives,
however when describing Baba, he claims he is a force of nature, using a
metaphor to not only place Baba as a superior character, but leaving room for
sympathy for Amir as he, like Raimond, feels a distant sense of connection to the
world of his father. Another prime example of Amir feeling no connection to the
world of his father is the soccer games that he, whilst full of regret, participated in,
just to try and feel that sense of belonging he was hoping for. Amir would pretend to
enjoy soccer even though he was hopeless and his scraggy legs couldn t keep up with
the sport. Amir s condescending tone expresses his embarrassment and hate for the
sport but the will to persevere to make his father happy, therefore demonstrating how
Amir strives to belong. Amir s personal relationship with his father was obviously

Introduction: Sledgehammer games making the next Call of Duty
It seems like every year since 2007, Call of Duty has been the same game and for the
past 6 years, fans of the series are getting a little frustrated and tired of it. Paying
$60 for the same game but from a different developer each year, well this article has
everyone asking these questions:
What do you think Sledgehammer s Call of Duty will be?
What will be the strategies of this tactic?
Will this new studio bring Call of Duty to newer heights?
BackGround: The Purpose of Sledgehammer games getting into the mix with Infinity

Call of Duty has been around since 2003, Call of Duty 2 in 2005 was a huge hit with
the release of the Xbox 360. In 2006 Call of Duty 3 was not that good of a game. In
2007, Call of Duty revolutionized the game with a new engine to help with
multiplayer but ever since then Call of Duty feels like it is the same game every year
Activision is preparing to fix this problem with Sledgehammer games creating the
next Call of Duty for 2014, they helped with the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer back
in 2011. Activision feels that this move will give the developers enough time to
create better ideas for DLC, (which stands for Downloadable Content) and for the
game as a whole.
DLC has been out since 2008 and it is an extension to the game with new maps and
cameos with mainly focusing on the multiplayer
Essay on Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of
Jesus. It will be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s
Christology is to portray Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his
day then with ancient Judaic tradition, namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are
numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive/predominant within the Matthean
account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion that these merely
complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as Messiah
and so, as such, will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion.

3:17; Isaiah 42:1). Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a
fundamental tenet of Israel s theological history personified.
Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic
prophecy, that of the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six
direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew
with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions
notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is
supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his crucifixion.
Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three
evangelists presents Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure
of the book into five sections is intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus
as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according to some scholars a type of Moses
bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly however, Matthew
portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well as the
messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula
quotations (3:15; 5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9,

Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde
Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a
tool for an intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into
poems themselves. It encourages metareflection and the use of dream visions within
Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic device or a significant and divine
vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an effective and
fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The
dreams in Troilus and Criseydetake various forms, altering shape under careful
observation.
Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or
divulge hidden truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this
dream is fabricated from the subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to
love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to acknowledge this, even to herself. These
two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in Chaucer s work as it
remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too was
questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that
can be seen to predict future theories of human understanding and dream
interpretations.
Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or
in relation to the affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances
where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart of my body, and two where Criseida returns
this expression. The wording implies the exchange of hearts, a motif only included
in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire may have
been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack
on the woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice
versa. Chaucer explores this motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which
according to Medieval allegory and moral, received both favourable and unfavourable
interpretations.
Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh
with severe ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde
with physical harm. (II. 925 31) The
How Educational Policies Affect Our Country Essay
Over the past 10 years, there have been significant changes to educational policies in
our country. From No Child Left Behind to Race to the Top, the adoption of Common
Core Standards and high stakes testing, students, teachers, and schools have been
resilient and have adapted to these changes. In addition, Race to the Top also
encourages reform relating to teacher evaluation. States across the country
restructured their teacher evaluation models to align with policy changes to ensure
that their schools would receive federal grant funding (Donaldson Papay, 2015).
Based on the Measure of Effective Teaching Project (MET), funded by the Gates
Foundation, states developed teacher evaluation models that assess teachers using
multiple measures that include student achievement, classroom observations, and
student feedback (Gates Foundation, 2009). Various instruments are being used to
measure student achievement and in turn to evaluate teachers. Value added measures
(VAM), state tests, standardized assessments, and student learning objectives (SLOs)
are examples of ways states are evaluating teachers effectiveness. When looking
specifically at SLOs, there are also variations among states, districts, schools, and
teachers in how SLOs are developed and the types of measures used to evaluate
student progress (CITATION). Measures for student learning objectives may include,
but are not limited to, standardized assessments, state tests, vendor generated
assessments, value added
Bottled Water In Schools
I think that bottled water should not be banned from schools and should be used
and accepted everywhere. As humans we need water to survive, whether the water
is from the tap or a supposed sanctuary of pure water. What is the difference? Water
is still water and that is what it will always be. We do not need fancy labels, brands,
slogans, or other marketing ideas to influence the way we think about bottled water.
All water should just be water, bottled or not.
First, all water is the same, it does the same job as any other water you get and put
into your body. People need to drink more water. The consumption of water, whether
from the bottle or the tap, is a good thing and supports people s pursuit of a healthy
lifestyle. says the Bottled Water Association. So whether or not the water comes
from the tap or a process factory, it should not matter because in the end all water
should be the same. It is silly that people think that bottled water shouldn t be used.
Bottled water is just the same as tap or any other water besides unprocessed, salt

If there is bad water in the tap system that tastes awful or is contaminated or tainted,
then you would probably turn to bottled water. Banning or restricting access to
bottled water in the marketplace directly impacts the right of people to choose the
healthiest beverage on the shelf. And for many, bottled water is a critical alternative
to other packaged beverages, which are often less healthy. Bottled water must
therefore be available wherever packaged beverages are sold. Our community would
suffer and there would be great conflict if everyone getting the water supply they
need. If we ban bottled water then that could significantly impact our economy and
our citizens health as a

Photographing An Unlifted Print
For photographing an unlifted print, forensic technicians must first locate the print
and document everything. They will use a flash light, a brush, and their powder to
locate and develop the print. Than they can take a picture and properly document
where the item that the print was found on was actually located. Photographing a

Summary Of War Is Kind By Stephen Crane
In War is Kind , Stephen Crane used an experienced military officer tasked with
giving death notifications as well as commanding soldiers on the battlefield to
reveal his disillusion and contempt with war by conveying sympathy for the people
left behind, the shock of perception versus reality, the overall futility of war itself,
dehumanization of soldiers, and the power of war to take and destroy. Crane
manipulates his readers to feel sympathy for his characters through diction,
alliteration, and onomatopoeia which create tone. In stanzas one, three, and five,
the speaker is tasked with giving a death notification to women who lost important
men in their life. He uses the terms maiden , babe , and mother to describe the
women and give them some humanity as well as a connection to the fallen men
(Crane 1, 12, 23). These descriptors imply that these women were important to the
men they lost and the men were important to them. Mother , specifically implies
this woman lost a son and provider for not just herself but her family (Crane 23).
Readers are also supposed to feel sympathy for the maiden who was left to live out
the rest of her days with unfulfilled love (Crane 1). Compared to other synonyms,
maiden is the most innocent sounding invoking the readers to feel more sympathy
for the girl. If Crane would have used the word spinsteror single, connotations
loneliness and old maid are implied instead of connotations of youth and innocence
implied with the word
The Scarlet Letter Archetypes
Archetypes in The Scarlet Letter
Archetypes are symbols of the basic human motives. There are many different
archetypes with their own set of values, traits, and emotions. The literary criticism,
mythological, looks at the analysis of the monomyth; which explains how all stories
are just different variations of each other. Archetypes explain how the characters,
symbols, or places in the stories we read are just variations of the monomyth.
Characters in The Scarlet Letter represented the universal archetypes. The character
of Pearl exemplifies the self type of the Sage. The truth will set you free

The Cameroonian music performances took me back to Africa and the early times
when music was so simple and meant something. The evolution of music was
brought to us as we experienced the Lions band which is a group of young
Cameroonians who live in the US perform a variety of music with what is known as
the most sophisticated instrument in music today. Comedians were also highlighted
as a form of art and culture. Many performances from many different eras were
scheduled. Theater was well represented during that event because it brought to life
Africa and is way of life to America.
Cultures continue to change and grow as many factors contribute to this change and
growth. That Cameroonian Festival was a classic example of this growing of the
cultures. Performers were young and old, male and female, as well as from different
walks of life. I witness the evolution of dance, art and music as I watch the different
performances.

The Rebellion Of Mother, By Mary Wilkins Freeman Essay
The Power of a Woman The Revolt of Mother, by Mary Wilkins Freeman, originally
published in Harper s Bazaar in 1890 (Gale 1997) it gives readers a view into the life
of a woman who is struggling with how to be correct and proper yet, remain true to
herself. While some may see Sarah s actions as signs of weakness they are actually
showing her strength. She is a womanwho, in spite of the restrictions placed on her
because of her gender shows the power of a woman by, knowing when to pick her
battles, showing love for her familyby serving them, and following her heart to
make the hard decisions regardless of the opposition. The opening scene has Sarah
Penn picks her battles in a conversation with her husband. A glimpse is given of
Adoniram, the husband s feelings about the conversation he knows is coming. It
must have been a familiar battle between them; he is unwilling to discuss, and she
is unwilling to leave until she gets answers. She exudes a quiet strength, as she
stands waiting, her physical characteristics are described But her eyes, fixed upon
the old man, looked as if the meekness had been the result of her own will, never
the will of another. (Freeman 145). She is a woman who understands the rules of
society regarding her gender and she knows when and where to pick her battles. Later
in the story, Sarah again shows strength in knowing when to pick her battles with her
husband. She speaks up when she must and stays silent when she recognizes the
Rifle Vs Spotting Scope Research Paper
Rifle Scope Vs Spotting Scope
When it comes to hunting, accuracy counts. You need to know that when you pull
the trigger, you are going to hit your target. If you do not, you will lose the capture.
The same can be said for all other forms of target shooting and the further away
your target is, the harder it will be to hit your mark. That is why there are so many
who wonder which best, a rifle scope or a spotting scope. Perhaps it is here that you
will find the answer.
High End Rifle Scopes Vs a Spotting Scope

It is often a lot more stable to look through than a pair of binoculars or even a rifle
scope because it is designed to be used on a stationary tripod or some other stable
surface.
Perhaps Use Both?
There are people who use both devices because they perform a different job. It is
easier for many to use the spotting scope rather than binoculars when they want to see
over a long distance and it also ensures that they are not possibly pointing their rifle at
something they would not want to shoot.
There are also those people who feel that if you have a good rifle scope, you do not
need to carry more than absolutely necessary when you are out in the woods. They
feel that their rifle scopes are just as accurate as a spotting scope and that when they
see a target, it is easier to use their rifle and shoot at it rather than have to site it
again. It all depends on how each individual feels about it.
How are They Most Useful?
A spotting scope is designed to be accurate while you are scanning the area for a
potential target. Then you can zero in on the target with your rifle scope and wait
for a clear shot at it. They are easier to use than binoculars and offer a very clear view
of targets that are far
Why Sports Organizations Develop Short And Long Term...
There are several reasons pertaining to why sports organizations develop short and
long term financial plans in order to move their organization in a positive direction.
When it comes down to developing short and long financial plans, we must first
define them. Based on class lectures, short term planning is a financial strategy that
typically lasts less than two years that requires a company to meet specific objectives
while making decisions based off working capital along with a reasonable cash budget
that fulfills the company requirements. Also, one of the authors in Review of
Business and Finance Studies defined short termfinancial planning as a
concentration on a cash venture s needs, which is considered as a source of
lifeblood for any business venture, so they can survive dreadful operating costs
during its early stages (Whited). In relation to short term planning, long term financial
planning lasts for at least two years or more and is considered to be more future
oriented that focuses mainly on industry trends.
When it comes to short and long term financial planning, there are important concepts
along with other financial strategies that need to be covered. First, I will address
major concepts that include planning and forecasting, income statement, cash
management, and opportunity. According to Michael Samonas in Financial
Forecasting, Analysis, and Modeling, planning and forecasting is a very important
component in developing a strong financial plan by

The Pessimistic and Bitter Franny Glass of J.D Salinger s Franny and Zooey
Young adulthood is often a time for maturing spiritually. Franny Glass, the
protagonist of J.D Salinger s novel, Franny and Zooey, began to question her religious
beliefs, during this time of spiritual growth. Franny s quest for religion caused her to
become pessimistic, bitter, and emotionally unstable. Franny held many strong beliefs
that caused her to view her surroundings pessimistically. After spending three years
contently in college, Franny changed her view of the college experience. She decided
that college was one more dopey inane place in the world. ; (Salinger, 146) She failed

underwent a period of emotional instability. She felt as if she was a patient in a
lunatic asylum ; (Salinger, 192), and her brother, Zooey, was another patient ;
(Salinger, 192) who attempted to treat her. By comparing herself to a patient in an

though Franny was losing weight like mad and worrying Bessie and Les ;(Salinger,

The facility has not had to euthanize a healthy dog due to lack of space for several
years. Programs have been developed such as the special needs fund, which allows
for expensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and adoption for many dogs who
may not of had that opportunity in previous years. However, cats provide additional
challenges due to overpopulation issues. Last year approximately 800 treatable
rehabilitable/manageable cats had to be euthanized. However, programs such as the
trap/neuter/release program, foster care in private homes, PetSmart and veterinary
clinic housing/adoptions, and free cat adoption incentives greatly reduced the
overwhelming difficulties with housing/adopting cats (Nebraska Humane Society,

Erik Eriskson s Eight Stages of Personality Development
Erik Erikson was a psychoanalyst and based his work off of Sigmund Freud s
ideas about the structure and topography of personality. Unlike Freud s idea that
personality is shaped by the age of five, Erikson believed that personality continues
to change over the life span. With this theory in mind, Erikson came up with a stage
theory of personality development. Stage theories assume that (1) individuals must
progress through specified stages in a particular order, because each stage builds on
the previous stage, (2) progress through these stages is strongly related to age, and
(3) development is marked by a major discontinuities that usher in dramatic
transitions in behavior (Weiten, 2008). Erikson s stage theory was broken down into
eight stages that progressed through life. Each stage encountered a crisis that needed
to be resolved before the person could move onto the next stage. Each stage builds
upon what has gone before and carries elements of itself into future stages (Hopkins,
1995). The eight stages Erikson purposed were trust vs. mistrust, autonomy vs. shame
and doubt, initiative vs. guilt, industry vs. inferiority, identity vs. confusion, intimacy
vs. isolation, generativity vs. self absorption, and integrity vs. despair (Guinee, 1998).
Stage one, trust vs. mistrust, children would ask the question whether their caregivers
met their needs or not. This stage happened between birth and one year of age
(Dunkel Sefcek, 2009). Maternal relationships also plays
Doctor Mckee Character Model
The movie I selected for my case study was The Doctor released in 1991. The main
character, Dr. McKee is a well renowned Heart surgeon. His character is portrayed
as a very self centered person who shows zero empathy towards his patients. His
lack of empathy was seen multiple times in the beginning of the movie; for
instance, when one of his patient ask him a question related to her scars after her

John Wesley and the Methodist Church- Analysis of...
I have been a firm believer that if one does not understand where you come from
you can have little understanding of where your heading. The first thirty two pages
of the book on Methodism and the Christian Heritage in England gave a background
as to Wesley s foundation that so many authors overlook. The first page summed it up
best in: The long course of English ecclesiastical history met the force of a new
concern for renewal, both individual and institutional. A long tradition of
propositional certainty of faith met the power of a personal experience of faith. An
institution built by and for the establishment met a concern for the souls and bodies

would spend the remaining years of his life in a variety of pulpits and prisons (p.

nonconformists to the Thirty Nine Articles to legally exist under certain prescribed

AP European History Class
Academic Journey
There was a civil war in my mind, as I hesitated about taking an advanced placement
course. Sometimes, the results of doing something that challenges and scares you are
worthwhile in the long run.
I was uncertain if I wanted to take an AP class especially history because
throughout my academic years in middle school and freshman year, I was not
exactly the type of student that was the top notch. Although I received decent grades,
I never saw myself as someone who could excel in my academic studies. Of course,
that changed when I visioned myself in an AP European history class.
It was as if the adrenaline reawakened the hidden confidence and diligence within me.
From that meeting with my counselor, it was a turning point. Determined to upgrade

In spite of all its rigorousness, I continued to stay because I would be doing myself a
bad deed if I threw all of my painstaking work and ambition into waste of time.
Coming up with a different approach, I realized that in order to survive and win this
game, I had to find myself interested and engaged in the major events, historical
figures, and essential terms that I learned because a positive mindset is key to
success. As long as I retained an enthusiasm for learning how history came to be and
how it lead to the present world, I was able to enjoy being a student of a European
history course. Certainly, there were several benefits of taking the AP class;
overwhelmingly, it was the workload that helped me prepare for other classes. As a
junior now, I have no problem busying myself with readings, annotations, studying,
and writing.
Above all the skills that I gained, writing was predominantly the skill set that I
developed most. Given that I had trouble understanding the texts, I was left with no
other choice other than to force myself to interpret the writer s

The main argument for Bound for Canaan was to respond to his earlier hardcover
edition of Bound for Canaan: The Underground Railroad and the War for the Soul of
America. It also explains that the underground railroad was more than Harriet
Tubman, it s a system of channels and different networks full of people who have
helped make the underground railroad successful, The author supports his argument
by giving us new information that we would have never found out on our own. In the
book the author starts with a brief dedication which states This book is dedicated to
the countless thousands of men and women who fled the bounds of slavery, but were
recaptured or died at the hands of their pursuers before they reached the safe embrace
of the underground railroad. They are not forgotten .
Bound for Canaan has accomplished so much. It s an eye opener for anyone who
reads it. It s the story that makes you want to get out and learn more about every
different aspect in the book. If the author wanted me to get one idea from the book it
would definitely be to be open about the history of the underground railroad. Seeing
now that I ve read the book, there are things about it that isn t taught in regular
schools. In schools they only teach you about what it is and that Harriet Tubman was
the leader.
Higher Learning, By John Singleton
Higher Learning, directed by John Singleton, portrays college life at Columbus
University, an integrated school, through the life experiences of three first year
college students: Malik Williams (Malik), Kristen Connor (Kristen), and Remy. At
Columbus university, barriers exist between race, sexuality, and economic status.
Students are faced with the challenges of achieving academic success, while also
overcoming those barriers. For Malik, Kristen, and Remy, the ensuing encounters
cause them to examine their life and reshape their identity. Malik, one of the main
characters, is an African American track athlete, who struggles with academics.
He feels entitled and has a sense that the world owes him just because he is black.
However, Professor Phipps,a black professor, engrains in Malik s mind that he
treats all of his students the same and that he will receive no special treatment
because of the color of his skin. In contrast, Malik is influenced by Fudge, a black
senior at the school, to understand how racism is prevalent in every aspect of the
world. Conflicted with Professor Phipp s ideas and Fudge s, Malik is forced to
look within himself in order to decide his best course of action. Remy, unlike Malik,
is white man who feels isolated and insecure when he first gets to Columbus
University. He finds himself not fitting in well and seems to say the inappropriate
things at the wrong times. When he is outcasted by the fraternity brothers, he
becomes heavily influenced by
Meaning Triangle Paper
This paper extends the Meaning Triangle (Sowa, 1997) and creates a broad research
framework called the Research Pyramid for positioning the current literature and
identifying new AIS research questions or ideas. The framework is comprised of four
constructs: objects, concepts, symbols, and AIS (component(s)) that are connected
along the pyramid s edges, referred to as primitive mapping. Descriptions of four
common researchmethodologies in this field are presented (design science, field
studies, surveys, and lab experiments) and accompany the placement of current
literature amongst the four framework constructs as an evaluative tool. Primitive
mapping is discussed amongst two construct, three construct, and four construct
combinations; emphasis is added that the mappings are bi directional and therefore
the approach taken to examine said relationship should encompass this. An approach
to mapping literature to the framework is provided along with steps to take in order
to potentially identify areas that have not been extensively covered by prior research.
The purpose of this paper is to create a rudimentary framework to expand future AIS
research opportunities by examining current literature patterns [topical and
methodological] based on broad constructs. In the beginning of the paper the authors
take on a broad definition of AIS. They recognize that AIS goes beyond financial
accounting systems and is based on the processing of transactions, providing
performance
Summary Of On The Equality Of Sexes By Murray
In her essay On the Equality of Sexes, Murray challenges the patriarchal society of
late eighteenth century America by arguing that women are not inherently unequal to
men, and could do just as well as their male counter parts, had they not been barred
from any opportunity outside the home. She supports her arguments using variety of
methods using morality, realistic scenarios and with religious doctrine, using the
bible to advance her argument. Using these she is able to effectively challenge the
status quo, and create a powerful argument for feminism.
She opens her essay by questioning man s interpretation of nature and of the female,
first asking why one sex would be granted complete mental superiority over the other.
After asking a few
Compare And Contrast Tecumseh And Tenskwatawa
Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa leaders of the American Indian involvement together
helped create a powerful organization among native Indians. Tecumseh, a powerful
political and military leader is the most recognized of the two, but it was the
combining of their knowledge that made them particularly powerful. Tenskwatawa
provided a helpful vision to launch a much broader Indian movement, he used
traditional native beliefs while combining religion to call for an Indian resistance
against the Americans. He was able to unify the American Indians by turning his life
around, which in turn he used his religion to gather many Indians, his faith helped
him restore peace within the Indian community. Tecumsehunified the native Indians
by using political and military strategies to convince the native people of what he was
trying to accomplish with his movement. His energy helped natives by giving them
someone with a voice. Tecumseh never compromised, which made him the powerful
leader that he was.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He turned his life around which in turn gave a new found light to the Indian
people. For the rest of his life he would be known as Tenskwatawa, the open door a
name that was used because of the new role he obtained as the religious leader of
the native people. He wanted the Indians to go back to their traditional values and
more importantly rely on the food, clothing and equipment used by their ancestors.
Tenskwatawa used religion to unify the American Indians by going around town to
town and introducing the natives to his practicing. His teaching assured them that
the master of life had not forgotten his children, and if they would follow
Tenskwatawa they would, indeed be revitalized. With the faith that he gained he was
able to restore peace and order in the world full of chaos that the Indians were
Women s Rights In The 1920s
Discrimination. Protesting. Equality. Not really equal. From the time of 1890 s
till 2000 s, these six words reflect what women have experienced trying to gain
women s rights. I chose the topic women s rights after I read Wildthorn by Jane
Eagland. In the book a women named Louisa Cosgrove who wanted to be a doctor.
The only problem was that she lived in the 1890 s. In this time in history, women
weren t equal as men. As a women myself, this experience hit home to me. For my
research paper and creative writings, I wanted to show how women gained their
rights, but also how their rights aren t being fulfilled. For my research paper, I
wanted to argue that even though women won their rights in 1920, they are still not
equal today. I first researched the pioneers of women s rights. I found the main
pioneers were Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul, and Lucy Burns. These women
would do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For these writings I wanted to focus on the pioneers of women s rights since I didn
t talk a lot about them in the research paper. The first writing I chose to do is a
short story. The story is about two pink alpacas, Alice and Lucy, who aren t
allowed to go into the Rainbow field because they are pink and not blue. So they
go to Mayor Wilson s house to have him change the rule. He refuses, so Alice and
Lucy protest. Mayor This story sounds old but I have a lot of symbolism in the
text. The pink and blue alpacas represent male and female. Alice and Lucy
represent Alice Paul and Lucy Burns. And Mayor Wilson represents Woodrow
Wilson. The second writing I did a diary entry. The diary is of Alice Paul s
experience while she was in jail. In the writing she describes her living conditions
and how she would give up protesting even though that she is locked up. I wrote the
diary over this because I wanted to show how Alice Paul was probably the main
pioneer for women s rights. She would do anything for women to be
Skeleton Key Quotes
First off, Alex is clever and curious in the book Skeleton Key. He was clever
throughout the book so far. At the start of the book it says, He ran on tip toe...
Now was the time to move (Horowitz 135 136). This quotes explains that he was
on a yacht and saw that one of his partners was in trouble and being held hostage.
Alex thought a diversion quickly, which was to set the yacht on fire. His goal was
to get everyone outside to help put out the fire while Alex and his partner escaped
without being seen. It went exactly as planned, but the boss was still in the room
and he had to kill him to save his partner. Further, the second reason he is clever is
how he fought the security guard. During the fight he is thinking how is he going to
attack the enemy and defend him while trying to find an escape during the fight....

The last reason he is clever was for a situations on the plane. The book says, Wait a
minute... asking him to carry it (Horowitz 148 149). The quote explains that he
was undercover with a couple of CIA agents and the woman who was acting as the
mother said he should keep is seatbelt because the seatbelt light was still on and
instead of saying no and make a scene with his fake mom he said ok mother and
put his seatbelt back on. Also at the start of the plane flight they have him a
Gameboy, which he thought was just a nice gift, but he realized they gave it to him
because he would look the least suspicious with it because it had gadgets in it which
would help them on the mission. The second word that describes Alex is curious.
Towards the beginning of the book it states, He was in a underground... telephone
conversation in his mind (Horowitz 46 47). The quote is about when he followed the
guard around the tennis courts to see whom he was going to meet. Later, he realized
that it was a trap, which led to the fight where he knocked out the security
Why Do Dogs Lick
Why do Dogs Lick
Dogs normally lick either themselves, humans, other dogs, or just general stuff
around their surroundings to signal something. Licking is part of a dog s life but
when excessive this could trigger other issues. In order for us to understand this
behavior we will list a number of reasons why dogs do this:
1) Affection
Dogs will mostly lick us to show affection and apparently due to the fact that they
also like our salty ski. Licking for affection causes dogs to release pleasurable
endorphins that gives them a comforting and calming feeling. And since dogs have
special receptors in their noses and mouths they can actually feel your mood by
interpreting and processing scented molecules existing in human sweat.
2) Grooming

An example is if they keep licking the anal area frequently this could mean the anal
glands need to be expressed or they are suffering from allergies. Another common
reason is the skin may be itchy due to fungal and bacterial infections and while still
on the skin issue be keen and look out for any growths or small abscesses that could
cause be discomfort.
6) Healing
Dogs have enzymes in their saliva that can get rid of bacteria when they have
wounds on their skin this also helps in getting rid of dead tissues on the wound. As a
stress reliever when dogs lick themselves they release endorphins which play a role in
relaxing and soothing them.
7) Hunger
Most dog owners will agree with this, when a dog is hungry it will lick you to
express it is time for food or drink. Puppies will lick their mother s lips to express
hunger. On other hand wild dogs who hang around in packs may lick the pack leader
as a sign of begging for food.
8) Submission
Licking can also be a sign of submission this is because dogs have social orders. An
example is a dog higher in the chain maybe greeted by one lower in chain by being
licked on the mouth. It is important to always check on the dominant dog as
excessive licking can become irritating and make them snap at the submissive
Risk And Corporate Financial Strategy Essay
Risk and Corporate Financial Strategy The relevance of sound risk management
cannot be overstated when it comes to the effective implementation of corporate
strategy. This text concerns itself with the impact of risks on corporate financial
strategy. Some of the risks that will be highlighted in this case include but they are
not limited to reinvestment risk, default risk, political risk, interest rate risk, etc.
From the onset, it is important to note that risk is part and parcel of every business
entity s corporate strategy. For this reason, in seeking to develop the corporate
financial strategy of their firms, managers must interrogate the inherent risks. One of
the risks that could have an impact on the corporate financial strategy of an entity is
business risk which Bender and Ward (2012) define as the inherent risk associated
with the underlying nature of the particular business and the specific competitive
strategy that is being implemented (p.51). Business risks could arise from events that
take place inside or outside the organization. An entity with a significantly high
business risk according to Bender and Ward (2012) must not adopt a financial
strategy that involves high financial risk (p.51). Yet another risk which could have an
impact on an entity s corporate financial strategy is credit risk. For most businesses,
this particular risk arises in those instances whereby a client fails to satisfy its
contractual obligations. Mostly, businesses find

needs a loan to supplement operational expenses and decrease the negative impact
market risk factors may have on sales volume. In 2007, the product cost of goods
sold increased from costs incurred 2006 as a result of significant increases in prices
of many commodities purchased by Tootsie Roll. These commodities consist of some
of the major ingredients used in Tootsie Rolls and other products, such as corn syrup,
dextrose, milk products, vegetable oils, sugar, and gum base ingredients (Tootsie Roll
Industries, 2011).
As a percentage of net sales, product cost of goods sold increased from 62.8% in
2006 to 66.5% in 2007 (Kimmel, Weygandt, amp; Kieso, 2009). Light freight and
delivery costs increased as a result of increases in energy costs, such as oil used for
fuel. Exchange of foreign currency on products manufactured in Canada has
generated an adverse effect as well, even though sales growth has increased. Tootsie
Roll Industries, Inc. has made efforts to offset the increases in costs of commodities
through selective price increases and reducing costs where possible (Kimmel,
Weygandt, amp; Kieso, 2009). However, the company has not been able to recover
all of the costs associated with the increases in commodities.
The company does not want to risk product price
