Education Biography
Countless leaders, revolutionaries, and scholars have discerned that only through the trials of
experience are we able to clearly identify an established pursuit. This prospect of a delayed
reward seemingly motivates us to continue in our endeavors. Finding little relevance in
experiences void of challenge or difficulty, we discern our interests largely through the upheaval of
current understanding. As we mature we realize that we must first embrace where we came from
if we hope to continue to develop, to adapt, and to modify and so we recognize that our past
experiences have all undoubtedly led us to here.
I have been taught that every person is their own project indicating that ... Show more content on

As the University of Bristol held no affiliation with my college, I was required to take leave of
absence from my university with the firm understanding that any coursework I completed overseas
would be null and void upon my return, rendering the completion of my degree nearly impossible
to attain within four years.
Aware that my program at the University of Bristol was only five months in duration, afterward I
would be no more a part of the university than when I first applied. As a visiting student, I would
need to apply to an alternative educatioal institution upon completion of my program overseas. A
traditional collegiate experience now looked highly unlikely. Fortunately, adhering to tradition has
never been as aspiration of mine.
In the Fall semester of my sophomore year I accepted the position of Public Programs Intern at the
Museum of Fine Arts in Boston Massachusetts where I served as a liaison between administrative
objectives and public interest. As an employee in the Department of Member and Visitor Services,

Four Propaganda Techniques In Advertisements
There are four propaganda techniques in the poster I created. The first technique I used is the
celebrity technique. People tend to pay attention to famous people when they are in advisements.
Celebrities grab our attention when we see them in an advertisement. The picture of NBA Star
Kevin Durant will grab people s attention and make them wonder if Sparkling ICE Naturally
Flavored Sparkling water is good. Kevin Durant endorses sparkling Ice and tells everyone that he
drinks it every day. After a long day on the court, Kevin Durant drinks a refreshing bottle of
Sparkling ICE to hydrate his body. The second technique I used is rhetorical questions. I used a
rhetorical question in the beginning of the advertisement to get the readers to agree

Organ Donation Should Not Be Mandatory
Imagine if you were in an unfortunate situation which required you to need an emergency organ
transplant. The only thing that could save your life would be an organ from another person s
body. Imagine that your loved one is dying of kidney failure and they are in dyer need of a new
kidney. There is a person who just passed away from an unknown reason, who meets the
qualifications of being a match to your family member. The only thing stopping the process of the
organ transplantis that the deceased person is not an organ donor. There s a person somewhere
who is unable to see do to something they experienced. If you are an organ donor your eyes could
be given to them so they can see. There s so many instances in our everyday lives that show just
how important it is for organ donationto be mandatory. If mandatory organ donation was made
legal this would not be a problem. In todays time, the demand for organs have sky rocketed, but
the organ supply has dropped tremendously. There are too many people on this planet for their to
be others dying from not receiving an organ. Not enough people take the time out to sign up to
donate organs. Signing up to become a organ donor is as simple as checking a box on your
license form. Being an organ donor does not quickly put an end to your life as most people may
think. It simply secures another person s life once yours has come to an end. If organ donation was
made mandatory it could say hundreds of more lives than right now. When a

The Six Secrets Of Change
The Six Secrets of Change: What the Best leaders Do to Help Their Organizations Survive and
Thrive.
Fullan, M. (2008). San Francisco: Jossey Bass
Fullan has previously written on the topics of moral purpose, understanding change, relationships,
knowledge use and coherence in organsisations. In The Six Secrets of Change Fullan addresses the
question of social change in organisational leadership, or more pertinently the question of What do
we know about successful organisational change under complex conditions? Fullan exemplifies
organisational behaviours in which implementation has been successful and where attempts have
failed. He provides examples of how effective and long lasting changes, which will ultimately
improve culture and efficiency, have been manifested in private and public businesses and schools
throughout the world.
Michael Fullan, OC, is the former Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the
University of Toronto. Fullan is recognized as a worldwide authority on educational reform. He
advises policymakers and leaders around the world in helping to achieve the moral purpose of all
children learning. The Six Secrets of Change draws on Fullan s research from educational
organisations as well as private businesses. Fullan makes it clear that he believes that a good
theory should be applicable across both private and public organisations and must be in context. He
states that the six secrets are not intended to be

Colleges Should Require Class Attendance
Does your attendance record reflect your final grade in college? No not because the professor
will mark you down a certain percentage of your grade, but because of the relationship between
students that show up for class and the ones that regularly skip. When I started attending college,
I was a bit confused why such a large percentage of students weren t attending class. It seemed as
the quarter moved further along, class attendance went down. After spending a bit of time on
google, I found a few statistics that reflect why I believe class attendance should be mandatory. On
the contrary, some students will say that they should have the freedom to decide if they want to go
to class, because they are now adults. However, to improve students grades and schooldrop out
rates. Colleges should require class attendance. Building in class continuity will help prepare
young adults for the work world and requiring class attendance will help develop students for a
thriving career. Fortunately, in grade school you are required to go to school. If you don t there
will be some form of consequences. However, once students enter collegethey now have the choice
of attending class, thus, teaching inconsistency. Doing so holds back other students in the class...

Students should see that it is for their own good to show up for class. If colleges made class
mandatory, it would help improve students` grades and confidence in themselves. Also, students
would have more consistency in their lives and in the class they would now be attending daily.
Instead of inconsistent continuity, you can grow into a mature adult. A relationship can grow
between your teacher and fellow students. In the future, I have hope that anyone that has influence
on this topic, will succor our students for their future and see that mandatory attendance will turn
young adults in school to becoming sleepers in their chosen fields of

located east of Mindoro, south of Lucena City, west of Bondoc Peninsula and north of Romblon.
They envision their company to be the catalyst of natural farming in Marinduque. They capitalize
in the surge of awareness about the value of the coconut products especially the health benefits of
the virgin coconut oil. Apis Cerana locally called ligwan or laywan is well suited to be raised in
coconut producing province like Marinduque where the use of chemical fertilizer and pesticides is
not commonly practiced. Their ligwan until now has not been affected by the pest that has been
exterminating the imported bees called Apis Millefera, which require anti biotics to survive.
With the coconut nectar as the primary source of food for thei bees, the honey they produce is
claimed to be superior. The bees in return will ensure that our coconut trees bear healthy fruits. The
coconut and the bees are natural partners which inspired us to come up with products we call

Essay on Frail Ophelia of Hamlet
Frail Ophelia of Hamlet
Throughout Hamlet, Shakespeare makes it evident that Ophelia is very unstable. She continuously
changes her mind about the way she feels. Laertes and Polonius command her to do things that she
does not agree with, but she does them with no argument. Afraid to stand up for herself, she stands
back and watches everyone else control her life. In Shakespeare s Hamlet, Ophelia is treated as a
marionette with her strings in the hands of the people around her; however, Kenneth Branagh
portrays her as independent and innocent, ignoring Shakespeare s representation of her as feeble
minded through complete male dominance in her thoughts and actions, her indecisiveness, and
digression into madness.

He goes on to say she is unable to think for herself, untruthful and insincere. Ophelia takes his
words to heart and promises to remember what he has told her. In Branagh s movie, he makes this
scene look as though Ophelia and Laertes are having a normal conversation. The slanderous words
thrown towards Ophelia do not seem to bother her; she goes on about her business as though her
brother has praised her instead of insulted her. Ophelia cannot stand on her own because she relies
too much on the directions given to her by her father and brother.
Ophelia has trouble deciding whether or not she loves Hamlet or thinks he loves her because she
does not know how to understand her own feelings. This comes from always letting everyone else
tell her what she should think. Polonius questions her about the many tenders of affection Hamlet
has shown her and she replies, I do not know, my lord, what I should think (1.3.104 105). Later she
says that she thinks Hamlet goes mad over her. Throughout the play she contradicts herself,
showing she is ambivalent and has no set thoughts; she thinks whatever the person around her at
that moment thinks.
Ophelia s madness comes about because she cannot stand on her own and focuses too much on the
bad things around her. She is very pessimistic; she constantly

Later that day, the gunslinger started to talk about his old town Tull. When the gunslinger was in
Tull he proceeded to a nearby cafГ©. He then met this women bartender who told the gunslinger
what had happened lately. One day, this guy named Nort had passed away. All of a sudden he had

Jake was frightened. The boy screamed again and crowded against the gunslinger s leg like a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Just In Time Inventory...
Nissan has adopted many different process practices to assist their daily manufacturing functions.
Just in time (JIT), Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean are three theory concepts the firm
has implemented to ensure the company stays on track in order to meet their goals.
Just in time inventory management is a cost cutting inventory management strategy that results to
stock outs. It originally referred to the production of goods to meet customer demand exactly, in
time, quality and quantity, whether the `customer is the final purchaser of the product or another
process further along the production line. Nissan benefited from this operation strategy, the method
ensured there wouldn t be an excess amount of inventory isn t sitting in the warehouse. When
properly adapted JIT manufacturing has the capacity to strengthen Nissan s competitiveness in the
marketplace substantially by reducing wastes and improving product quality and efficiency of
production. Despite the preceding advantages, there are a number of disadvantages associated with
just in time inventory which could significantly impact the business. A supplier that does not
deliver goods to the company exactly on time and in the correct amounts could seriously impact the
production process. JIT means that you become extremely reliant on the consistency of your supply
chain
Toyota Production System (TPS) on the other hand shifts their focus primarily towards employee
empowerment engaging team members to optimize quality by constantly improving processes and
eliminating unnecessary waste in all resources. Its main focus is to provide best quality, lowest
cost, and shortest lead time through the elimination of waste. A drawback to this system is the high
cost and the level of complexity to implement the method.
The three practices work in conjunction with one another in order to optimize improvement in all
products and services. The development of TPS was a major precursor of Lean manufacturing. Lean
like TPS and JIT focuses on continuous improvement. The main difference is lean is customer
focused, if it does not add value to the customer it is not added (Heizer Render, 2014). By
implementing Lean Nissan can provide their customer what they want

Persuasive Essay On Volunteering
eather French Henry once said, Volunteering is at the very core of being a human, no one has
made it in life without someone else s help, (Volunteering Solutions 3). Similarly, the butterfly is a
very small natural force which over a period of time gains a cumulatively large effect that produces
great beauty. This phenomenon begins first with insurmountable struggles and works its way
through a snarled mess of webbing and eventually takes flight. With every effort, the first step in
volunteering is usually the hardest. However, once the intention is set, the flight of volunteering
takes off. In fact, many scholars over the years have argued over how involved an individual should
be in one s community. Some believe the largest reward a person can achieve from givingtheir time
and money to the good of their community is the satisfaction, accomplishment, and pride that
comes from within. Ultimately, an individual s role should be founded on one s ability to be
impactful to their community, this impact can be quick or long lasting but in the end, the results of
volunteering demonstrate leadership and stewardship which through example inspires others to do
the same, creating a better place for all to live.
The purpose of giving stems from the ability of each individual to be impactful with their own
actions. Through the action of giving to one s community, the meaning of the action does not lie in
how much money or how much volunteering is produced, rather how much

Industrial Melanism Of Biston Betularia
Industrial Melanism of Biston Betularia or the Peppered Moth in England has been a textbook
example of natural selection since it was first noticed. Before the industrial revolution the peppered
moth was most commonly found in the light colored Typica variety. During the industrial
revolution there was a significant rise in the dark Carbonaria form and a slight rise in the
intermediate Insularia form. Beginning in 1970 the Typica variety has been returning to the
common variety of peppered moth. This change has been assumed to be caused by increased
predation on moths that did not blend into the bark on trees (Cook et al 2012). Before the
industrial revolution the trees were light colored and covered in lichens and the Typica variety
blended in well. The Carbonaria variety did not blend in and was naturally selected against by
birds praying on them. During the industrial revolution the trees became darker due to soot and the
lichens died. In this new environment Carbonaria had better camouflage and the Typica was
naturally selected against. Since modern laws have cleaned up the air the trees are lighter again
and the Typica variety is again being positively selected (Kettlewell 1956). Melanismis a heritable
trait that is dominant for Carbonaria and recessive for Typica. There is another allele that is on
the same locus for melanism. This allele forms the Insularia variety and is recessive to the
Carbonaria allele and dominant to the Typica allele (Cook et al 2012). Because

Process Essay On Longboarding
Longboards are the big brother of standard sized skateboards. They are longer, wider, have fatter
wheels and a longer axle. Each of these differences collectively, makes boarding tricks a little
easier, especially for beginner skateboard enthusiasts. Here are two great tricks you can learn to
help improve your longboarding skills. No Comply The most basic trick in skateboarding is
easier to master using a longboard. It s called the no comply and can be perfected with practice
following these steps. Beginners should initially attempt this trick in a flat area with ample
room for mistakes. Both of these tricks begin by cruising along at a controlled speed, pushing
off as needed with your back foot. The trick starts with your back foot on the tail of the board,
with the toe of your front foot in the middle, again rolling forward. Your front foot should be
tilted at a 45В° angle. You will raise your front foot off the board, applying pressure with your
back foot while twisting inward just slightly at your back ankle. This will flip the front of the
board up in the air while your front foot lands on the ground.... Show more content on

Your front leg is your pivot leg. When you put pressure on the back of the longboard it needs to
flip exactly 180В° around so that the back is now facing forward. Sounds easy right? For
beginners, it is a good idea to stand stationary and develop the flip before blending all the steps
together. Timing is critical when performing the no comply trick. Once the rotation is three
quarters complete, just before the front wheels return the ground, your lead leg is repositioned
back in the middle of the board. Your balance will switch to this front leg and with one big push
off the ground from your back foot; you ll be cruising along again. Ghost Ride Kick

President Hindenburg s Influence On The Rise Of Power
President Hindenburg was one of many contributing factors to Hitler s rise to power. Power is the
capacity or ability to direct or influence the behaviour of others or the course of events. President
Hindenburg passed on a role in government to Hitler, but Hindenburg took the risk and didn t know
what he was in for. The argument produced is about the importance of President Hindenburg s
actions, what effect the Great Depression made on Hitler s rise to power and the long term
resentment about the Treaty of Versailles.
The Treaty of Versailles which was established after World War One, contributed to the
embarrassment and humiliation Germany was faced with. Land and Military were lost, but most
of all respect from the German population . At this stage Germany became remote and the only
person German people had hope in was Hitler. To the German community Hitler was their
ultimate saviour . The combined actions provided rich material for Hitler to use in supporting
him in the rise of power. The Treaty also started a process where the German economy was
rebuilt bases around the loans led by the US . This made the nation especially weak when the
Great Depression came. The German economy fell soon after due to invasion from the French as
it was impossible for Germany to pay the reparations. The German currency lost its value and this
was the start to the middle classes falling into poverty . In 1924 the crisis was ended by the Dawes
Plan, which re established the value of the

How Did The Renaissance Influence Western Civilization
The Renaissance and subsequent scientific revolution in the west led to a drastic change in the
philosophical assumptions that underpin the way we perceive the world. In short, the vertical
order of being collapsed, a strict dichotomy between the observer the observed came into play, and
the universe ceased to be seen as a symbol eventually causing the divine that was symbolized to
disappear from public consciousness. These consequences, however, was not inevitable. Muslim
civilization had much of the same data and made many of the same scientific conclusions as
western civilization without falling into the trap of abounding the spiritual nature of being. A large
part of this difference came from the decline of mysticism in western Christianity by the time of the
Renaissance. The Renaissance sought to revive Greek Civilization. However, Greek civilization had
died in the first place because reason eclipsed the esoteric tradition that had formed the essence of
the civilization. After the Renaissance, the scientific revolutionbegan. The heliocentric model had
been discovered in the Islamic world prior to the western scientific revolution, but had not caused
nearly the philosophical rift that its development caused in the west.
Initially, the western development of the heliocentric model was based firmly the ... Show more

Mezcala Bridge Research Project The considerations of the bridge for the high speed rail coming
through the a.v. is when designing high speed rail to the antelope valley. The considerations are is
that the kids or young adults of the antelope valley area are able to go to colleges in san diego and
back home to the AV in the matter of just minutes. The bridge is to get over the highway to get to
L.A. so they will be less traffic to L.A. There are some things that we also need to know that we
just need to know if it cost just enough.
The Mezcala Bridge or Mezcala Solidaridad is the thirteenth largest bridges in the world. The
location of the bridge are in the state of Guerrero in Mexico on Highway 95. The beginning of the
Mezcala Bridge was started at 1989 and with a total length of 891 m (2,923 ft) and six uneven
spans completed in 1993. Being in service since 1994, no major disasters has touched the bridge s
existence. The bridge still stands as strong as the day it was build.

Abstract
Cognitive impairment (CI) is observed in the vast majority of individuals with schizophrenia and
has long been identified as a principal contributor to functional deficits. To date, pro cognitive
pharmacologic therapies have been largely unsuccessful in addressing CI and as such, psychosocial
treatments for cognitive enhancement in schizophrenia are increasingly important. Cognitive

Survey of Cognitive Remediation Practices for Individuals with Schizophrenia: Implementation and
Barriers
Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic mental illness characterized by substantial cognitive,
emotional and perceptual deficits. The symptoms and dysfunctions of schizophrenia manifest
themselves in varying states of severity across individuals but are often associated with high rates
of mortality, substance abuse, and co morbidity with other mental disorders. In addition to earlier
mortality rates (Crump, Winkleby, Sundquist Sundquist, 2013), symptoms of schizophrenia often
interfere with one s ability to function and perform daily tasks. Cognitive impairment (CI) has

How Did The Mafia Come To Power
As the mafia became more established they began to take control of the government. By 1880 they
had made their way into positions within the government as well as in the army and police forces.
While in these positions of power they practiced coercion, and turned to crime to maintain their
power. During the 1876 political campaign, MafiaDon Rafael Palizzolo made his way into office by
forcing people to vote for him by threat of death. When he took control he quickly appointed other
members of his mafia to office where they began to embezzle money from the Italian government.
Soon the mafia had almost complete control over the country that once ignored them. Anyone even

The Italian Mafia was originally founded on a sense of loyalty and respect for culture, family
and the Sicilian heritage. The Mafia was meant to protect its members interests while granting
them freedom in exchange for absolute loyalty and submission to the family. The Sicilian Mafia
was based on the belief that justice, honor, and vengeance are for a man to take care of, not for a
government to take control of. The Sicilian mafia followed a code called om erta , which was a
code of honor, silence and strictly adhered to the ruling that this was a secret society, open only to
those who had Sicilian blood. In contrast to the humble beginnings of the Sicilian mafia, the
American mafia has proved to be a conniving, cold hearted organization. The American Mafia
consists of a large group of glorified thieves, pickpockets and murderers. Although it began with the

Essay On Late Modernism
Late Modernism Reborn? In our world of ideas, different philosophical movements emerge from
time to time and some of these movements completely alter the entire society and the way we
interact with our environment. One such philosophical movement, modernism, virtually
revolutionized both our society and culture, and also the graphic designworld. With the emergence
of the
Swiss Style, our typographic understanding changed from subjective to objective. Clean, sans serif
typefaces replaced the earlier, more personal and complicated typefaces. Strict, structured design
was achieved with the use of grid systems. After a period of simple and clean graphic design, post
modernism emerged and rejected the concepts of late modernism. They adopted ... Show more

While this overly simplified system was adopted by so many in so little time as a result of this
very simplicity, it does not reflect the true idea behind late modernism; because late modernism
does not intend to take the designer out of the equation, it wants to alter the world around us and
humanize our surroundings. First of all, late modernism does not support the idea of making the
designer irrelevant to the design work. When it emerged, Swiss Style supported using simple
typefaces, sans serif and making clean, but powerful designs. You may notice most designer using
simple fonts such as
Helvetica while designing logos, roadside signs or posters. They use the
Helvetica font, but it is not because they want to make their designs more boring or non artistic.
The use of such a simple font is for one purpose only, to make their designs more objective and
less suggestive in a sense. Use of elaborate and overly decorated fonts can lead to the over
personalization of typography. While the idea of using a strict set of typefaces could seem
extremely restrictive on the graphic designer, it is nonetheless necessary. As the Experimental Jetset

Deforestation Guatemala
Angee Peralta
ESS 110
Final Research paper
Environmental deterioration in Guatemala It is a true shame, seeing what third world countries
have done to their beautiful forests. But who is one to judge, their ignorance is a result of the lack
of education and resources provided to them from more developed countries; countries, who have
great education and knowledge of what is being done to this planet. Focusing on Guatemala, only
18 percent of their people enroll into higher education(global education fund). Higher education in
Guatemala is equivalent to the first three years of high school in The United States. Is anyone
really to blame for deforestation in such a big portion of this country? There is not any one
specific thing that has created the destruction of forests. Many factors, and many years have gone
into this; for an example, agricultural expansion, natural disasters, and logging. I will be
explaining how all these factors lead to one main problem, deforestation; and how we can work on
fixing this problem. Deforestation is known to be the cutting of trees is vast amounts. To explain

reforestation , that is a vague term, that cannot be simply created. We must begin with the root of
this problem, and pull it completely out for it to stop growing. We must begin by placing rules and
regulations that do not allow the cutting of trees in vast large amounts. This will then decrease the
problem we have with carbon dioxide levels. From now on, all we could do with that is simply
plant more trees. Guatemala is a third world country, so it would need donations from more
developed countries. More local people benefit than not from the cutting of trees, so it is in our

The Spiritual and Physical Dimensions in The Birthmark Essay
The Spiritual and Physical Dimensions in The Birthmark
Fred Allen Wolf notes in Taking the Quantum Leap that it was not until the 20th century that
scientists realized that to observe is to disturb, for observation breaks the wholeness of nature. If
observing disturbs, then when a scientist tampers and tries to perfect nature the result can only be
disastrous. The goal of most scientists is to observe and understand the mysteries of nature.
Nathaniel Hawthorne realized that the scientists of the 19th century were beginning to challenge
the traditional views of science and man. The traditional view of man holds that man is both
material and spiritual. Advancements in science led some scientists to begin to think that man was

This is evidenced when the narrator makes reference to the fact that Aylmer had studied the
wonders of the human frame, and attempted to fathom the very process by which Nature
assimilates all her precious influences from earth and air, (2). Aylmer did not want to accept the
reality that there was a mystery of life that was beyond our understanding and ability to
manipulate. According to the narrator, Aylmer had long laid aside in unwilling recognition of
the truth that our great creative Mother, while she amuses us with apparently working in the
broadest sunshine, is careful to keep her own secrets, (2). He laid aside the reality of the real
spiritual world that lies beyond the grasp of man because he was unwilling to face his own
limitations as a man and scientist. As he embarked on his plan to perfect Georgiana, he continued
to lay aside the truth because the truth lay in the path of his proposed scheme for the treatment of
Georgiana, (2). William E. Grant comments that Aylmer is the archetype for all Hawthorne s
scientists, since he represents both what is best and what is worst about all of them, (3). His goal
was honorable, that is to rid Georgiana of her defect, his denial of the truth, that his abilities were
in fact limited, was his downfall. It isn t till later, that we see a glimpse that he has begun to
recognize his limitations as he faces the reality of a real and powerful spiritual world.

United States Foreign Policy and the War on Terrorism
In very general terms, it could be said that the United States makes foreign policy decisions based
on what we hope are the best interests of its citizens. On the surface, it would appear as if this has
been the case over the past several months, as the U.S. has waged its war against terrorism. If one
were to penetrate this surface, however, they would see that there is much more to this conflict than
meets the eye. Is Operation Enduring Freedom indeed justifiable? Most people would say yes, it is
in our best interests, because our forces are fighting against an injustice, for the purposes of

Unfortunately, this has not been the case in Afghanistan. The United States reacted far too quickly
in declaring the war on terrorism. The Bush administration did not outline clear goals for the war,
and in their haste to fight the cause, and bring justice to the American people, they completely
overlooked the potential impact of their actions on non American citizens.
A major concern regarding the war in Afghanistan is the fact that there may have been more
civilian casualties as a result of bombings than there were in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
The estimates vary widely, but it has been suggested that at least 4000 people have died in
Afghanistan since the bombing campaigns began, although no one can come up with concrete
numbers at this point. Furthermore, this is only one conflict. The same is true regarding the large
number of people who have died in Iraq in the last decade, whether it was due to bombings, or
because they suffered as a result of economic sanctions imposed by the United States. These killings
are reprehensible, and, as Kathryn Sikkink, a political science professor at the University of
Minnesota claims, ?military methods that inevitably lead to significant civilian deaths are
inconsistent with a human rights approach, regardless of the intentions of the planners (SSRC).?

The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing
Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be
logical and easy to follow. Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing
are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In addition to these, there are several other
techniques that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays.
One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea
and summarizing it into a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that
are irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted. This will make writing unified and coherent.
In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences
are usually present near the beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in
the documents. In such documents, there is a separate, formal summary section emphasizing main
ideas that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate paragraph and
each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the
conclusion. However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive.
The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first.
Readers are interested in recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this
structure requires to put research findings first and then the process. However,

Conflict In The Interlopers And Mending Wall By Robert Frost
Mahatma Gandhi once said that An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind. This
idea is supported by the short story The Interlopers by Saki and the poem Mending Wall by Robert
Frost, which are both stories about two people continuing an outdated feud or tradition that is not
needed anymore. In these works, the authors use conflict, metaphors, and characterization to convey
that old traditions are often pointless to carry on, especially if the tradition creates a feudbetween
two people or families, because the feud is most likely also outdated and therefore not needed
anymore. In The Interlopers , the author uses man vs. man conflict to convey this theme. In the
beginning of the story, there was a feud between the Znaeym and the Von Gradwitz families that
resulted in Ulrich Von Gradwitz thinking that If there was one man in the world whom he
detested and wished ill to, it was Georg Znaeym (Saki 83) . At the end of the story, Ulrich Von
Gradwitz realized how foolish they had been to continue this feud and said I ve come to think
we ve been rather fools; there are better things in life than getting the better of a boundary
dispute. Neighbor, if you will help me to bury the old quarrel, I I will ask you to be my friend
(Saki 86) . The solution to Ulrich Von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym s conflict reveals how the
feud between their families was not needed anymore because their whole lives had been ruled
by an outdated, pointless conflict that took over their lives to the point where they wanted to
kill one another, and they would be better off resolving this conflict and being friends than
continuing an outdated rivalry. In Mending Wall , the author uses a metaphor that represents a
similar conflict to convey the theme of the poem. In the poem, two neighbors come together
every spring to repair a wall when the speaker lets his neighbor know beyond the hill;/ And on a
day we meet to walk the line/ And set the wall between us once again (Frost 12) . The speaker
does not think they need the wall though, because Before I built a wall I d ask to know/ What I
was walling in or walling out (Frost 32) . In the metaphor, the wall represents a feud or rivalry that
is separating the neighbors. This

The Oil Curse, By Michael Ross
The discovery of oil in a low income country is often met with both excitement and dread. Many
theories circle around the idea of a resource curse that supposedly affects countries with large
amounts of resources. The resource curse essentially dictates that a country with large amounts
of resources is not as likely to thrive as a country with low levels of resources. The issue with
this view is that it generalizes too much; there is just as much variance in the levels of economic
success between resource rich countries as there is between them and resource scarce countries.
This is why this newly found oil in this country does not necessarily need to be met with dread, as
there is a chance for success. However, this newly found potential for wealth needs to be handled
with extreme care. In the following memo I will outline what the resource curseis, why some
countries are affected by it and others not, and finally I will outline how this country should handle
its newly found oil wealth.
Michael Ross in his book The Oil Curse, analyzes in great detail the effects of oil on a country s
economic, political, and social environment. Ross argues that resource curse is not the appropriate
terminology; it is more accurately a mineral curse , as countries are generally not affected by other
types of resources. (Ross, p.1) In fact, oil and natural gas tend to be the most common villains of the
resource curse. Humphreys, Sachs, and Stiglitz hypothesize that countries with

Animal Helpers In Snow White, Beauty And The Beast, And...
In many fairy tales, the protagonist is either an anthropomorphised figure or a human child with an
animal companion. Children stories that focus around a female protagonist normally involves an
animal helper or a magical helper due to the traditional beliefs of young girls being innocent and
weak compared to boys. Animal helpers are usually unnamed or anonymous and provide help for
no reward. Even though, stories that involve animal characters do not focus primarily on the
animals, they still serve a significant purpose. Through the depiction of the animal helpers in
Disney films and several fairy tales, such as Aschenputtel, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and
The FrogPrince, they highlight the importance of nature and reinforce patriarchy and gender
binaries. It does this by assigning animal helpers mainly to female protagonists and having them
solve most of the complicated problems to guarantee the female character s survival and success by
the end of the story. To begin, animal helpers can sometimes be neglected and underrated when...

Rise Of Birth Control
Introduction
In 1965, President Johnson said, Less than five dollars invested in population control is worth a
hundred dollars invested in economic growth. The rise of contraception in the United States, like
birth control pill, was controversial, highly debated in courts and law, and once the movement got
rolling, it was hard to stop. When a Gallop Poll in 1936 asked if United States citizens favor the
birth control movement, 61 percent answered yes. This was a shocking discovery, because until that
time contraception seemed like a taboo topic. Today, manufacturing and selling birth control is
legal in all 50 states. Family planning services are also now subsidized federal and state
governments and nonprofit and private organizations. This nationwide movement enables women
to choose when they start families. By allowing women to have the authority to utilize
contraception, positive trends have been seen in economic advancement, education attainment and
population trends.
The Rise of Birth Control The first oral contraception, Envoid, was introduced in 1957. The
problem was that state laws prohibited physicians from prescribing the Pill and pharmacists from
selling it. Two major shifts in the access to birth control occurred about 50 years ago. In 1965, the
trial Griswold versus Connecticut ended restrictions on the sale of contraceptives. Federal
government boosted funding for family planning from 1964 to 1973, these changes are still making
a positive impact today.

Abstract
Utilization of fiber reinforced composites for engineering applications is gaining importance to
derive many advantages such as manufacturing process flexibility, high strength to weight ratio. The
machining of composites is always not preferred because of the structural disturbances generally
occur due to damages caused by machining forces to the fiber matrix interfaces, which in turn leads
to the reduction in the mechanical properties of composite as a whole. However machining is
necessary in special situations where the dimensional tolerances are to be maintained very close in
the case of the composites mating with the other components.
The present work aims at identifying the better milling process parameters to obtain better finish
across the machined surface with minimum damage. This paper indeed comparison discussions
about the machined surface generated by milling operation for a given tool signatures of two
fluted specially designed carbide tipped end mill cutter and four fluted solid carbide end mill tools

A Documentary On Food, Inc.
Agricultural Misconceptions Body mass index, or BMI, is used by doctors and health
physicians to measure excessively high levels of body fat in relation to lean body mass in an
individual. Having a BMI ratio that is considered above average or too high normally denotes
persons at risk to several health adversities such as heart attacks, liver damage, diabetes, and even
more widespread, obesity. In 2005, the United States Department of Health and Human Services
estimated that over half of the adult American population was either overweight or obese, and
many of these health concerns were correlated with a person s diet and type of foodconsumption. In
an attempt to assign blame for the cause, political and social commentators claim that long standing
farm subsidies on particular food commodities correlate with rising obesity trends in America. In a
documentary titled Food, Inc., opened to audience in 2008, award winning filmmaker Robert
Kenner argues that current agricultural policies on these subsidized food commodities are allowing
major food corporations to mass produce products that negatively affect the health of consumers
nationwide. He contends that commodity crops such as corn, wheat, and soybeans are heavily
subsidized by the government to produce snack foods that are high in calorie content but low in
cost, becoming the prime choice for Americans looking for cheap and readily available foods to
eat. Kenner believes that government subsidies need to either be

Virgo Constellation
I have chosen Virgo as my constellation. The reasons are that it is my Zodiac sign, and it s
meaning is The Virgin . I have also chosen it because it s traits describe me. The traits are:
analytical, observant, helpful, reliable, precise, skeptical, fussy, inflexible, cold, and interfering.
Virgo is tied with the Greek goddess Persephone. Persephone was abducted and taken to the
underworld by Hades. Persephone lived with Hades and they fell in love. In revenge, her mother,
Demeter, ruined the harvests. People starved as the crops died and the land became infertile. Zeus,
her father, was forced to issue a decree stating that Persephone should spend only a short time each
year in the underworld. When she was released Demeter reversed

Warkentin Chapter Summary
How does one describe land? What determines how one describes it? Does it matter about what year
the chapter is written? In Chapter 12 of Warkentin s text, he elaborates on the spacial complexities
humans had in British Columbia between 1840 s and early 2000 s. Warkentin flows from the
Southern British Columbia region to the Central areas of British Columbia then continues
observations to the Island Pacific coast which finishes with the Metropolitan B.C. His expertise of
the land is almost overwhelming with descriptions of the Natural features, resources, and
settlements within the area expressing tremendous spacial and humanistic details, highlighting the
Canadian Pacific Railway(CPR) and the important history between Aboriginals and the settlers of
this time. Unlike Warkentin, Bone describes a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The descriptions he gives about these keystones in history is enough for me to engage in my
own research. This made me question which text is the better to learn from, if a book doesn t
create a want for more, is it a good book? In terms of learning, I much preferred the Warkentin
chapter as it influenced me to dig deeper into the history of topics. в ЂЁвЂЁWhat intrigues me
about both chapters is their different takes on what the geography of B.C. should represent. The
Bone articles highlight an economic opportunity in the mining, and extractions of resources, while
seemingly bypassing the history of how British Columbians have gotten to that point. There is a
lack of concern for indigenous population and other small communities in particularly the northern
regions which should be addressed. Bone does a great job of keeping his text simple and effective
for easy reading to catch main points, in my opinion this is where Warkentin has struggled. The
detail Warkentin illustrates in his text is profound yet cumbersome at times. Warkentin s knowledge
of the land and how humans have managed to integrate themselves among it to begin the extraction
of the materials which

Psychotropic Medications
Background
Pro re nata is a Latin phrase meaning for an unforseen need or contingency . 1 The most common
type of PRN medication administered by mental health professionals in acute mental health care
settings are psychotropic medications. Psychotropic comes from the Greek word Psycho, a
combining form meaning psyche , which indicates the mind, soul or spirit as opposed to the body
and from the Greek word tropo or tropos which means turning . Hence what turns the mind.1
Psychotropic medications affect chemical levels in the brain, which can affect mood, perception
and behavior.1
When a physician writes an order for PRN medication, they write orders for one or more
psychotropic medications to be given at the discretion of the nurse, provided ... Show more content

The aim of this systematic review is to provide a deeper understanding of the circumstances and
factors that influence a mental health professional and their use of PRN medication. More
specifically:
Do they make these decisions solely or seek input from others?
Do they feel confident in their own decision making when administering PRN medications?
What medication do they choose if there is a choice between two or more PRN medications?
What dosage and what route of administration do nurses use and why?
This systematic review will endeavour to find evidence for the use of PRN medications by mental
health professionals including the clinical decision making process when administering PRN
medication. In addition, this review will endeavour to find evidence for patients understanding and

Gender Equality And Gender Inequality
Women. We are the subordinate class. Our portrayal in the real world has proven this fact to
many. Many people ask how could a women even be considered an equal? With the lesser pay
and respect we are given, it is not very surprising this question is being asked. Yet we are also
growing up in the age of Oprah Winfrey, Hilary Clinton, Malala Yousafzai who all represent the
strong and empowering qualities women hold. They fought to have a say, and now hold the
respect of thousands. So the real question one must ask is not regarding how women can be
considered equal, it is regarding as to why we are considered as lesser after having accomplished
just as much as men, if not more? The gendergap places woman on a lower pedestal. We are
continually receiving less pay, despite possessing similar knowledge and capabilities as men. An
article from the World Economic Forum stated that the pay gap is widening and having the opposite
effect than planned despite [the] numerous initiatives to break glass ceilings and force salary
disclosure. This pressing issue is in dire need of a resolution. The gender gap not only threatens
women s individual rights, it violates the equal protection clause under the fourteenth amendment
which promises to protect women from sex discrimination. With the equal protection clause in place
that specifically declared the equal protection of the laws, one would have hoped that gender
equality fell within this criteria, however that is not the case.

Democracy and Bureaucrary Are Incompatible, Discuss Using...
DEMOCRACY AND BUREAUCRARY ARE INCOMPATIBLE, DISCUSS USING
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES.
The relationship between democracy and bureaucracy has generated much debate amongst scholars.
Democracy is defined as a political system which supplies regular constitutional opportunities for
changing the governing officials and the social mechanism which permits the largest possible part
of the population to influence major decisions by choosing among political contenders for political
office. Abraham Lincoln as cited in Haralambos and Holborn (1995) defines democracy as the
government of the people by the people and for the people. Bureaucracy is defined by Schaefer
(2003) as a component of formal organisation in which rules and hierarchal ranking are ... Show

Therefore, bureaucracy is not compatible with democracy in such governments where the wishes of
the people do not take paramount importance.
It can be argued that organisation or bureaucracy is death knell of democracy and hence not
compatible. Moreso, direct participation by large number of people in the running of an
organisation is in practice impossible. Apart from the practical difficulties of assembling
thousands of people, direct involvement in decision making will be more cumbersome and time
consuming that nothing will get done. Since direct democracy is impractical, it can only be
replaced by a form of some representative system, whereby delegates represent the mass and carry
out its will. Hurd et al (1991) laments that these political elected leaders want to amass wealth at
the expense of the people, just because of their positions. Leaders at the highest authority of the
bureaucracy can appoint other leaders on basis of ethnic background, nepotism and favour hence
the wishes of the people wont be respected because the leaders would be representing their own
selfish needs. As a result, bureaucracy can not be compatible with democracy if the wishes of the
majority are ignored. The only thing they will do is to come back with feedback and alerting the
mass on their course of action in the future. For example the president went to represent Zimbabwe
to the UN summit recently and told the Zimbabwe s story without prior

Reflection Paper On God s Love
Since I was working with a single individual, there was not research that really had to be done or
interviews. I did, however, look into Meals on Wheels and brought it to Betty s attention. For
Betty, it was so hard for her to ask her help and she has spoken to me about not wanting to take
from others because she could get by. Instead, I would try and sit with her for about an hour
each time I brought something over and let her take the conversation wherever it may. Most
times this included God. I decided to be open with her about being agnostic and we would have
long conversations about how the church has changed, how it has impacted her life, and how
she had spread God s love. Our conversations reminded me of Jerry and Larry s which allowed for
different opinion but a mutual respect (Inazu, 2016). I will say though that she has taught me a
thing or two about what to cherish as I age and how God s love can be seen or spread. The readings
that I was assigned in class were something we often talked about, and I even passed her Smith s
(2016) book. So again, while I did not interview her or engage in research, I learned a lot from
her in asking questions. My initial proposal was submitted via Blackboard to Dr. Lakies. I
originally proposal was to gather information to find out how individuals over the age of 65 could
find affordable assisted living facilities or home health aides to come into their homes. The
feedback that I received from Dr. Lakies was that while doable, my

large scale mix use developments can incorporate sustainable practice and principles of urban

The multi faceted characteristics of high quality urban extensions are detailed in the Sustainable
Urban Extensions: Planned through Design (2010), a report from the Princes Foundation, focusing
particularly on the quality of new housing. Paraphrased below are the proposed requirements to
create a successful development indicated by the report: High density and compact design; A mix
of housing types and tenures; Legible neighbourhoods; Communal areas of green space and;
Communal amenities and facilities. The report identifies the physical attributes of a sustainable
urban extension, focussing on quality of new housing. Higher density, a mix of housing types and
tenures, legible neighbourhoods, communal areas including green space and communal amenities
and facilities are all observed as necessary. However, due to adverse effects of the economic
downturn, Upton is yet to provide the substantial amenities as originally proposed. Consequently,
residents of Upton will require transportation to obtain essential services, thus partially offsetting
the sustainable premise of the scheme. Breheny et al (1993) considered the design characteristics of
new communities and summaries the dominant tendency towards oversimplified and functional
concepts. In urban extensions there is an inclination to focus heavily on traditional features of an
English Village, resulting in a pastiche urban fabric, with Poundbury Dorchester

Analysis of Sidgwick s Third Axiom Essay
This paper will object to Sidgwick s axiom that from the point of view of the universe, the good of
one is no more important than the good of another on the ground that it is analytic. I present the
purpose and content of the axiom with a further explanation of what I take the point of view of the
universeto mean. I then consider the response of the Egoist to the axiom and Sidgwick s counter
response to illustrate the tautology of the argument. The tautology of the argument brings it in line
with other axioms that Sidgwick rejects as insignificant. Thus, I argue that the third axiom fails to
meet Sidgwick s own standards, making its utility and significance questionable. In response to this,
I consider that the axiom may be analytic but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the axiom holds that we must regard the good of others as equal to our own good unless,
when viewed from an impartial position, it is less due to special circumstances . For example,
Sidgwick states that it would be wrong for a man to pursue his own good on any occasion if it
would result in another individual having to sacrifice a greater amount of their good. The
problem with the axiom lies in the use of the phrase from the point of view of the universe . The
phrase must be included because without it an Egoist could easily reject the axiom, which
would be unacceptable for Sidgwick. However, the inclusion of this phrase could lead one to
object to the axiom on the basis that it is analytic. As it stands, the Egoist can escape the axiom
so long as he holds his happiness as his ultimate end. He can simply say he is not interested in
taking up that point of view and thus it does not apply. Sidgwick acknowledges this to be true, so
long as the Egoist does not believe that his happiness or pleasure is Good, not only for him but
from the point of view of the Universe... as by saying that nature designed him to seek his own
happiness. If the Egoist believes something like this, Sidgwick thinks it becomes relevant to tell
him that, when taken universally, his good is no more important than that of any other person.
Thus, his argument becomes, if you adopt the

John Proctor s Excessive Pride In The Crucible By Arthur...
In The Crucible, both honor and excessive pride play a role in the portrayal of John Proctor
throughout the play. Pride is an attribute that makes someone feel like he or she is worth something
but when someone is excessively prideful, they are over confident and often conceited. Proctor s
excessive pride caused him avoid telling the truth in the story told by Arthur Miller in The Crucible.
Proctor was a proud man who seemed to set himself apart from the community of Salem,
Massachusetts. No one could have seen him as prideful, as John was a religious man, or so
everyone thought. His pride caused him to cover who he really was a man who struggled with sin.
Elizabeth Proctor, his wife, wanted him to admit his sins and put an end to Abigail Williams
scheme that had brought about a witch hunt but John Proctor does not come clean until Elizabeth is
among those accused and he feels guilt over his previous relationship with Abigail, the accuser.
John Proctor s pride put him into a painful situation that could have been avoided if he had been
honest from the beginning. If he had told the truth about Abigail before the accusations of
witchcraft began, he may have saved the lives of many innocent people. ... Show more content on

He could not see that he needed to be honest about Abigail s accusations of witchcraft that
continued to grow. Proctor s pride brought him sorrow when his wife was accused but it was a

confessed soon after her accusation, I have made a bell of my honor! I have rung the doom of
my good name...My wife is innocent, except she knew a whore when she saw one (Miller 49)!
At this point, John Proctor shows that he is honorable when he puts away his pride to defend his
innocent wife. As a last effort to preserve some degree of pride he refuses to sign a confession that
