Essay On The Media
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay On The Media" can be both intriguing and challenging.
The vast and dynamic nature of the media landscape poses a multitude of facets to explore,
making it difficult to encapsulate all relevant aspects within the confines of a single essay. The
challenge lies not only in comprehensively addressing the various forms of media but also in
navigating the constantly evolving nature of the media industry.
Researching the topic requires delving into the historical evolution of media, understanding its
societal impact, and examining the intricate relationship between media and politics, culture, and
technology. The dynamic nature of media means that new developments, technologies, and
controversies are continually emerging, making it a challenge for the writer to stay current and
relevant.
Furthermore, crafting a well-structured essay involves not only presenting information but also
critically analyzing it, offering insights, and potentially proposing solutions or perspectives. The
writer must navigate the delicate balance between providing factual information and expressing
personal opinions or interpretations.
In addition, the topic may involve addressing ethical considerations, as the media plays a pivotal
role in shaping public opinion and influencing societal norms. This adds an additional layer of
complexity, requiring a nuanced approach to exploring both the positive and negative impacts of
media on individuals and society as a whole.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on the media can be a rewarding endeavor. It provides
an opportunity to engage with a topic that is highly relevant to contemporary society and allows
the writer to contribute to the ongoing discourse on the role and influence of the media.

Lorenzo Ghiberti Research Paper
The son of a goldsmith, in Florence, Italy, Lorenzo Ghiberti would become one of the
most influential
Artists of the early Renaissance.A child prodigy, he received his first commission at
age 23. Ghiberti multi tasked much of his work including the doors for the Florence
baptistery and numerous statues. He was a student of humanism and incorporated
much of its philosophy into his work.
Lorenzo was born in Pelago, near Florence, Italy, in 1378 (the exact month and day
of his birth are unknown). He was well trained by his father, Bartoluccio Ghiberti, a
well respected goldsmith in Florence. In 1392, he was admitted to the Silk and Gold
Guild as an apprentice, and by 1398, had passed his examination to become a guild
master goldsmith. In 1400, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In rendering the doors, Ghiberti adopted the linear grace of the early 15th century
gothic style of Florence to the expressive power of the newer Renaissance style. The
result was a heightened illusion of depth. Completed and installed in 1424, the doors
were so highly praised that the Arte Calimala hired Ghiberti to work on another set of
doors.
Over the 20 years that he spent working on the doors, Lorenzo Ghiberti also devoted
his time to creating the designs for the stained glass windows of the Florence
cathedral, and served as architectural consultant to the cathedral s building
supervisors.
In 1412, the Arte di Calimala gave him another commission: to make a larger than
life sized bronze statue of their patron saint, John the Baptist, outside the guild s
communal building, Or San Michele (also known as Orsanmichele). A bold
undertaking, Ghiberti finished the work in 1416 and was quickly commissioned to
do two more similar large bronze statues for the guild. To complete all of this work,
Ghiberti operated a smoothly functioning workshop with many

The Three Senses Of Sharks
Most predator sharks are long and round. Every shark is shaped for the type of water
they live in.
Angelsharks are flat so they can hide on the sea floor.
Horn sharks have sharp spines on their backs
Megamouths have huge soft blubbery lips.
Hammerhead sharks (as said in their name) have a head shaped like a hammer, which
makes them look like a swimming T.
Sawsharks have long pointy, sharp snouts.
Large sharks, like the whale shark or the Basking shark, are as big as a bus.
Some very tiny sharks such as the pygmy shark or the Colombian lantern shark can
fit on top of your hand.
Goblin sharks has a very strange long snout like a long horn, it is said that these
goblin sharks have lived since the dinosaur age; people have found fossils of a shark
similar to the goblin shark that had lived about 125 million years ago.

The senses are hearing, smell, lateral line, pit organs, vision, Lorenzini, touch, and
taste. Sharks have many senses that us humans do such as taste and smell, but it
has special three senses that we do not have. The lateral line, pit organs and
Lorenzini are the three senses that have been discovered in the last 10 20 years, and
play an important role in how the shark behaves when swimming around. The six
senses which shark use very essentially for looking and hunting prey prey are Smell,
Eyesight, Electrosense(sense of electricity), Water Pressure, Hearing and Taste. Two
thirds of a shark s brain is devoted to smell.
Sharks can distinguish one drop of blood in a million drops of water, 1/4th of a
mile away. Water constantly flows through their nostrils, giving them olfactory
information. Sharks have colour vision and see well in dark light. It is said that
sharks use the ampullae of Lorenzini as a directing device to swim by the earth s
magnetic field. The lateral line is a sense organ used to detect movement and
pulsation in the water. The sharks pit organs are used to detect temperature

Virtual Schooling For K 12
Virtual School Consultant Project
Virtual schooling for K 12 is the biggest trend in education today and is focus on
supplemental and blended learning environments that happens in conjunction with
face to face learning. According to the September 2011 Issue Brief on Virtual Charter
Schools blended learning is the focal point of innovation and experienced the most
significant growth in virtual schools. Students gravitation to fully online learning, at
this time, is limited; consequently, supplemental or fulltime programs are the most
common schools in Maryland and was the basis of this recommendation (Babour,
n.d.).
XYZ is a district school in Maryland and has experienced a declining dropout rate
based on an Annie Casey Foundation Study (2014), and as a result employed the
services of a consultant to create a virtual school that offers supplemental programs
through a virtual learning environment. The program/ school offering student service
similar to Obridge in Massachusetts. The areas the consultant explored included
policy, structure, funding, course development, and possible barriers.
Policy
Policy standards are essential in regulating and ensuring that students thrive in the K
12 virtual classroom, in college, and in his/her career choice; therefore, our
educational system must continuously develop and embrace the very best practices,
policies, and ideas and the State regulating agency must implement policies that are
comprehensive and inclusive to all

Clonus Research Paper
Acrocyanosis: Bluish discoloration of the hands and feet caused by reduced
peripheral circulation. This is normal in newborns right after birth and may last for
a few hours after birth, This happens because blood and oxygen aren t circulating
properly to the hands and feet yet. The problem goes away as the bloodvessels in the
baby extremities open up. Intervention is often not required but some facilities will
supplement oxygen for precautionary measures.
Clonus are rapid alternating muscle contraction and relaxation that may occur when
reflexes are hyperactive. To assess for clonus, the woman s lower legs should be

Hyperreflexia is an indication of cerebral irritability. This should be reported to the
physician immediately since clonus may indicate an increased risk of convulsions.
This is most seen on Preeclampsia patients due to vasoconstriction of cerebral vessels
( see below).
Preeclampsia is a result of generalized vasospasm. In normal pregnancy, vascular
volume and cardiac output increase significantly but blood pressure will remain
normal because pregnant women develop resistance to effects of vasoconstrictors
such as angiotensin II. In preeclampsia, peripheral vascular resistance increases
because women are sensitive to angiotensin II and they may also have a decrease
in vasodilators. Vasospasms decreases the diameter of blood vessels, which result in
endothelial cell damage and decrease EDRF (endothelium derived relaxing factor).
Vasoconstriction impeded blood flow and elevate blood pressure, and decreased
circulation to kidneys, liver, brain and placenta. Decreased blood flow to kidneys

Questions On Communicating Corporate Social
Responsibility
Communicating Corporate Social Responsibility Ashley Allen Annenberg School for
Communication and Journalism University of Southern California Paper submitted
as partial fulfillment of requirements for CMGT 540: Uses of Communication
Research Fall 2014 Introduction Since the beginning of time marketing has existed to
explain and promote products to consumers in an effort to persuade purchase
decisions and increase sales. Traditionally, it has been a one way form of
communication, with companies providing messages to consumers without any
opportunity for consumer response. These messages started as billboards, newspaper
and magazine advertisements, but as technology evolved new opportunities arose....

Soon consumers also began to understand the power of being able to quickly and
efficiently reach people ( Power at Last , 2005). Dissatisfied customers began their
own powerful messages, creating complex problems for the companies they target,
attacking them for not caring about employees, the environment, or in basic human
rights ( Power at Last , 2005) (Thellusson, 2003). And these efforts are powerful.
Some examples include; an online petition demanding PepsiCo to remove
brominated vegetable oil , a harmful ingredient avoided in many countries, from
Gatorade and (O Brien, 2013) a social media campaign aimed at Burger King,
requesting that the company agree to obtain all pork and egg products come from
cage free vendors by 2017 (successful)(O Brien, 2013). The ability of the internet to
provide information has created the information age , filled with extremely informed
consumers who are using their power to push for healthier, safer, socially aware
businesses that are honest and good ( Power at Last , 2005). As consumer power has
grown, businesses across the globe have come to the realization that they must
become more customer centric . It also required businesses to consider how they
could integrate a two way communication form that allowed consumers to interact
with and become part of the brand. Meaning, they must

Figurative Language In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Shelley uses a variety of figurative language that contribute to the
novel s depressing atmosphere. Figurative language, such as allusions,
personifications, and similes, establishes a relationship between two literally
contrasting subjects. It prompts readers to more closely analyze the subjects for
underlying similarities. It can also add to depth to the piece and enhance the overall
novelby making abstract concepts more digestible.
During the monster s narration, the author utilizes a series of biblical allusions to
express the monster s anguish and his relationship with Victor. While the monster
identifies with Satan, he also points out, Satan had his companions, fellow devils,
to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and abhorred (Shelley 93). Satan is
usually viewed as a miserable creature, because he was exiled from heaven and can
no longer live in God s glory. However, the monster reveals that even Satan is more
fortunate than him, because at least, Satan is not completely isolated in Hell. The
allusion emphasizes the extent of the monster s loneliness. Additionally, the monster
reveals, Many times, I consider Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition... (Shelley
93). Shelley compares the monster to the biblical figure, Satan, who embodies evil.
She emphasizes the monster s miserable existence, because similar to Satan, his
existence has only brought tragedy and evil upon the world. Overall, her comparison
to Satan induces readers to

Online Courses And Traditional Courses Essay
With the developing of technology, internet gradually becomes an important element
in many areas. The high efficiency and convenient of internet benefits many
individuals and groups. Internet also involves higher education in many different
ways, and online courses is one of them. When the online courses appear, people
begin to compare them with traditional classes which are taught in visual classroom.
As a result, two groups of people with different idea on online courses will against
each other. However, I do not think there is a specific result to say which one is
better for higher education. Data table shows that the gap of online courses and
traditional courses is only 2.94(Daymont Blau, 2008, May). The data shows that
these two kinds of education will lead to similar result, and both of them have
unique advantages and disadvantages. Internet is just a tool which can helps
students succeed. This tool may be only fit for groups of people and some of
classes, but it will improve the higher education as a whole when it combine with
traditional teaching method. Just like eating, each person may choose different
tableware for each dish. Usually, people will use more than one tableware for one
meal, because each tableware has unique function, and the combination of them will
lead to a most effective result. Same with the courses in higher education, the
combination of online courses and traditional visual classroom will lead to the most
effective and efficiency way to

running a house, receive everything to your liking, force confessions from
criminals, potentially assist in finding out the wishes of dying patients, and other
functions (Brooker Tibbetts, 2014). The cookie is sometimes reluctant to give into
their new reality of working for the person they were created from. This results in
someone coming in to assist the cookies to dealing with their life and how to

The Culture Of An Organization
The culture of an organization is like a river. It can be fluid, strong and consistent,
serving as lubricant while guiding its members in the right direction. In contrast a
river can become stale and toxic, silently killing those who drink at its shore.1
Ron Kaufman
Tyco International was nearly ruined because of the unethical corporate culture
Kozlowski was implementing. According to a study on leadership and organizational
culture by T. Gilberson et al., the values within the organization can be linked to the
personality characteristics of the CEO. It is upper management that is believed to be
the primary influence on the creation and development of organizational culture.2
Kozlowski put policies in place to misappropriate the funds of the company, these
policies directly violated company culture. The other directors began to follow these
policies even thought they knew it went against company policy. Why? According to
social cognitive theory, individuals are proactively involved in their own
development; What people think, believe, and feel affects how they behave . 4 If we
believe this statement to be true than why were the subordinates at Tyco influenced
by the leaders to engage in unethical corporate culture. We could consider D. Lease s
explanation that control through culture is so powerful that once these values are
internalized; they become part of the individual s values, and the individual follows
organizational values without thinking about them.5 Another

James. Son of Zebedee
Lesson 1: The James of the Gospels
Introduction
The name James appears frequently in gospel narratives. There are three separate
James mentioned amidst the early church in Jerusalem: James, the Son of Zebedee;
James the Less; and James the righteous. Correct interpretation of which James is
being mentioned when discerning Scripture is imperative.
James, the Son of Zebedee James was the son of righteous parents, Zebedee and
Salome, who lived on the shore of Galilee, consecrating their industry with piety and
educating their children through honest toll manly virtue. James entire family was
involved in the ministry of Jesus. Zebedee, father of James and John, was a well
known businessman and possibly a financial contributor to Jesus ministry. Salome,
the wife of Zebedee, was an active follower of Christ. James and John, the sons of
Zebedee, became two of the three inner apostles and were counted within the
called twelve apostles. James father was Zebedee, whom some presume resided in
Bethsaida or Capernaum. Peterson states, Zebedee and his two sons operated a
thriving fishing business on the Sea of Galilee in partnership with another set of
renowned brothers, Andrew and Phillip (Luke 5:7 10). It is surmised that Zebedee
was a man of influence because he marketed some of his choice produce among the
elite in Jerusalem (John 18: 16). Additionally, we find in Mark 1:19 20 that the sons
left their father with the hired servants

What Are The Challenges Of Balancing High School
My greatest challenge so far has to be balancing high school with the issues that
my family has faced. During ninth and tenth grade, my mother was experiencing
back pain as well as scaitia in her leg, which almost led her to be bed ridden. My
mother experienced tremendous pain and her pain killers were not even helping her
out. To further arise the issue, neither of my parents speak English well, so it was my
responsibility to go with my parents to any doctor s appointments or any other
appointments that were necessary. Furthermore, the first two years of high school
were also an intense period for me because my father also had two neck surgeries in
the past and with his age, his body was not supporting him either. I was expected to

Edward Taylor Huswifery
The literary period between the rise of the first English civilization in New England
to the Revolutionary period was focused on the Puritan authors of its time. Puritan
lifestyle revolved around their religion; God and the Bible were incorporated into
nearly every aspect of their daily lives. Because literature often reflects the values,
culture, and history of its time period, much of the writing during the Colonial or
Puritan Era involved the Puritan religion. The Puritans relationship with God is best
reflected in the poem Huswifery by Edward Taylor. The author compares himself to
a housewife s spinning wheel, and God to the housewife. Using this extended
metaphor, Taylor pleads for God to use him to His will so that he may be guided

Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William...
Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth wrote two versions of the poem To A Butterfly, one in March,
the other in April. In reading the poems, the situation presented is obviously the
same, only interpreted differently and reflected differently. As Wordsworth himself
said about poetry: it is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its
origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity: the emotion is contemplated till by a
species of reaction the tranquillity gradually disappears. Both versions of the poem
are about the memory that the sight of a butterfly brings back, not so much a
memory but a feeling the poet gets upon seeing this butterfly. In the first version of ...

In the last two lines, we learn that the memory is not of the two of them together,
but primarily of his sister, Emmeline, who feared to brush the dust from off its
wings. The memory seems like it should be a happy one, but the language of the
beginning of the poem tells us otherwise, and we are left wondering what has
happened between the memory and now. The tone of the second poem, the April
poem, is quite different from that of the first. Here, the poet does not impose his
own thoughts and impressions upon the butterfly, but simply observes it, and
wonders about the natural life of a butterfly. He thinks of what it would be like to
be a butterfly, thoughts that would put one in a fanciful mood, not a somber one. If
the butterfly happened to take flight in the April poem, I think the poet would be
happy about this (compare lines 7 9 of the April poem to lines 1 2 of the March
poem). The next stanza is very important in differentiating between the uneasy sort
of reflective mood of the March poem, because it describes the orchard ground as
theirs, his and his sister s together, showing us that nothing bad has happened to her
(an idea I got from the March poem). He tells the butterfly that it is welcome in
their orchard whenever it would like to rest, and they would like to see him often.
Lines 16 19 describe the conversations they will have (before, in the March poem, the
conversation he finds in the butterfly brings a solemn

Rites Of Passage In Turyl Markham s Brothers Are The
Same
Every person begins their life with birth and resolves with death, rites of passage
help people feel apart of society, where the changes are vast, amending both
themselves as well as their society they reside to. In Beryl Markham s short story,
Brothers Are The Same , Temas, a sixteen year old boy in the Masai tribe, dreams
of achieving manhood through the killing of a lion, nevertheless in doing so, he
must show wholly no signs of fear. Remarkably, throughout Temas s ordeal, he
fears failure and disappointment, however, with the help of an olden enemy,
Medoto, Temas not only succeeds his right of passage though also originates a
friend from an enemy. Similarly, in the movie, Tuck Everlasting, directed by Jay
Russell, an independence seeking girl, who goes by the name of Winnie, feels as
though she needs to be free, and seek each and every form of adventure in her life.
Even so, Winnie faces a difficult choice that will last a lifetime, and in the end, she
chooses the right path and prevents anyone to resolve the same mistake as a friend
once made. Although Temas and Winnie face different challenges from the
influences being pushed upon them, both opt for decisions that change them each
into a superior version of themselves.
Be that as it may, if Temas fails his rite of passage, he will be marked a failure,
whereas Winnie may never fulfill a normal life. In Temas s tribe, all men had passed
[the test]; all had earned the warriors title and none had faltered

Similarities Between African Elephants And Columbian
Mammoths
Evolution by Natural Selection: Tate Museum Report
DNA has shown many genetic similarities between Columbian mammoths and
African elephants. Based on their skeletal structure both animals are expected to be
around twelve feet tall and fifteen feet long. They similarly grew tusks extending
from their jaw to around fourteen feet in length, which weighed up to 150 pounds.
These massive tusks were used in defense and for daily chores such as digging,
lifting, and gathering food. Both animals are herbivores and mainly graze upon
grasses, although they eat leaves on occasion.
Although genetics seem to point to elephants being evolved from mammoths, there
are quite a few differences to argue; namely their weight, tusks, and their hair.
Mammoths weighed nearly twice as much as an elephant at ten tons (22,000 pounds)
while the elephant is a mere three tons (6,000 pounds). The main cause in weight
difference is the thicker bones in the legs of the mammoths. While both behemoths
possess large tusks, the mammoths were rounded toward their faces whereas the
elephants are straight outward. Since mammoths inhabited North America during the
Ice Age they produced a dense coat of fur for warmth; elephants have very little hair
due to their warm environments.
Although there are many similarities between the two, the African elephant did not
evolve from the Columbian mammoth; they share a common ancestor. Many selection
pressures in their environments brought the differences. For instance,

What Makes Architecture Real
Project Report:
Jon 9. Grade
Architecture
Architecture is a word of common knowledge, as I think it should and is at least for
the people around me that i know. For me the word is always associated with
architect, because an architect is the one who makes architecture real. Architecture as
people understand it nowadays probably came to life with the species homo
sapiens because they are self conscious, before it was just a very primitive thing.
You could say DNA is an architect because it builds, in fact it is probably the best
and wisest architect humans know of, therefore we are also architecture because
anything that is built and is physical can be architecture by definition even Wikipedia
states that. This is is all very philosophical.
All form of art are connected with philosophy and so is architecture. Architecture is
considered art, plus everything that involves with it like the process of designing.
Architecture was the first art form on this planet, everything existing is in reality
architecture, noone never said architecture had to be created by a conscious being. If
universe just came into existence, therefore nothingness itself is an architect.
Therefore nothingness could be conscious, just vacuum or something more. ... Show

Nowadays building are not that practical anymore, there have been buildings just
for the show like the Eiffel tower. In fact there have been buildings just for show
since the beginning of first civilizations. Temples for gods, pyramids for pharaos,
arcs for victorious battles. Still architecture has to stay practical and efficient, if not,
we could not support 7 billion people on this earth. For example building a house
which fits 5 families inside comfortably when it could as well fit in 15 families same
comfortably with the same amount of effort put in. In other words not doing anything

Bilingual Language Essay
America has been home to diversity and is seemed to be land of the free. With an
array of culture and perspectives, America become a country represented by all.
Taking this into consideration, you would expect bilingual language to be highly
pushed among students, but that is far from true. Since 1998, proposition 227 was
enacted, creating strict protocols and was meant to fix the issues concerning
bilingual education. This proposition lead to non english speakers being put into
English only classes so that they were able to learn the language until they were
ready to be put in a regular english class. Although this was meant to be progressive,
it resulted in causing more conflict for non english learners and their progress being
made. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Ron Unz article Bilingual Education Programs Fail Our Students , he states that
proposition 227 had required all California public schools to teach their children
English by placing those non English speakers in an intensive sheltered English
immersion program in order to teach them English as quickly as possible so that
they could then be placed in a regular English class. The issue with this was that
children were unable to grow as fast as they needed to. Teaching them in English
creates more of a struggle for the child. The purpose of the class is to learn English
so using only English to teach would not be the best solution. In Prop. 58 would
undo limitations on bilingual education written by Adolfo Guzman Lopez, he
explains how Marcelo SuГ Ўrez Orozco, dean of the University of California Los
Angeles Graduate School of Education Information Studies, states that proposition
227 was a political response due to the failings of the bilingual education who rather
than finding a solution, eliminated bilingual education as a whole. So, rather than
working to fix the issue, supporters of 227 sought out to eliminate it as a whole,

Examples Of Fear In East Of Eden
In the novel East of Eden many examples show just how powerful fear can be if
used for selfish gain or as a defence mechanism. Fear being one of the biggest
overtones (if not the biggest) allows us to see how huge an influence fear can be in
a person s life, as with Cathy the main antagonist who lives to hold the fearof her
blackmailing someone and men s sexual desires over their heads to attain whatever
her twisted desires are. Cathy the embodiment of evil in the novel, who lives by fear
is found consistently using it to her advantage to apprehend whatever her black
corrupted heart desires from the unsuspecting people around her. Often times she
would blackmail men and uses sex as her weapon of destruction, her blackmailing
these men often led to them committing suicidedue to the impending stress that she
implements in their lives, in the beginning of the novel Cathy preys on her lust
driven teacher and eventually drives him to suicide and lures school boys into a barn
where her mother finds her tied up with her skirt... Show more content on

Should Fantasy Sports Be Legalized
State of New York vs DraftKings and FanDuel
Intro
Since the inception of fantasy sports companies, very few industries have grown this
significantly in such a short time span. Amidst the growth in popularity of daily
fantasy betting FanDuel and DraftKings are aggressively expanding to reach the 51
million current fantasy sports users in the US and Canada alone. Although fantasy
sports companies are growing in popularity they are also experiencing increased
scrutiny. Criticism stems from the belief that daily fantasy sports betting should be
illegal or heavily regulated at the state level since it is considered to be online
gambling.

By observing the recent growth in popularity of fantasy sports, there is no doubt that
the market will eventually have to be regulated or deemed illegal. However, given
the growth in appetite for sports gambling delegitimizing the regulated industry
would simply lead to a surge in illegal gambling.
According to an ESPN survey, approximately 38% of Americans admitted to betting
on sports in 2008.
The fact that the outcome is only determined partially by skill proves that their
business model comprises of betting and is therefore illegal according to law in the
state of New York.
DraftKings and FanDuel argue that since a small minority of costumers amass a
majority of the victories there is a significant level of skill involved.
They are pushing to convince the court that the players have an effect on the outcome
of the game and therefore the outcome is based on skill.
What is interesting about this case is the fact that the destiny of a whole industry that
is dominant in New York is dependent on this verdict.
The court s interpretation of the law is the key aspect of this case as it will
determine whether the companies activities are legal or

How Does Lynne Ramsay Use Film Techniques Of Eva...
How has Ramsay used film techniques to illustrate Eva s point of view and
emotional state in the film? Lynne Ramsay s We Need To Talk About Kevin
(2011) is a thriller drama which follows Eva Khatchadourian, a widowed mother in
distress due to the massacre caused by her psychopathic son. Ramsay uses various
film techniques to portray the perspective and emotional state of Eva in the film.
Through colour, sound and music he expresses her feelings clearly to the
audience. Colour was widely explored by Ramsay to depict the extensive array of
feelings of Eva. Two prominent colours were red and yellow. Red is used as the
dominant colour to depict Eva s inability to escape from the guilt and blood caused
by the actions of Kevin, her son. Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He implements music in contrast to the mood of Eva to express to the audience
her emotional state. A wide array of blues music were often utilised to contrast Eva
s mood. Ham N Eggs by Lonnie Donegan was used when Eva was driving to the jail
from work. Her mood highly contrasts with the uplifting tone of the music as she
has just visited her son in jail. Music was also used to give hints as to the actions
of Eva. As Eva was frantically searching Kevin s room, the song In My Room by
The Beach Boys began playing. The blues song contained lyrics such as, There s a
world where I can go and tell my secrets to In my room, in my room. In this world I
lock out all my worries and my fears. The lyrics show that Eva was searching for
any clues to help her discern the actions and attitude of Kevin. She found nothing
to help her determine Kevin s attitude which was ironic to lyrics. Another example
of ironic use of music was during Eva s work Christmas party where Colin asks her
to dance. Eva shyly rejects the dance and Colin whispers an insult to her. The
cheerful song Last Christmas by Wham! is gradually increased in volume to rival
Eva s hurt feelings. Ramsay s recurring use of music in aims of ironically contrasting
Eva s melancholic state, is clearly expressed to the

Essay On Ozymandias
Current pop culture has been influenced by great works of literary merit for as
long as we can remember. Ozymandias, being the astounding poem it is, evidently
had a lot to give to producers, writers, and musicians hundreds of years after its
release. Percy Shelley produced various ideas to take from the poem; from whom the
poem was about to when the poem was written. Each influenced piece of pop culture

versatile poem.
Breaking bad, a hit television series was greatly influenced by Ozymandias. So much
so, they created an episode named Ozymandias, and it came complete with the star of

Tom Wingfield Synopsis
Plot synopsis: This play is a memory play introduced by the main character and
narrator, Tom Wingfield, based on his recollection of his mother, Amanda, and

Tom works at a warehouse trying his best to support his sister and mother. Tom
often finds himself bored and uses cinema movies and drinking to escape his

Throughout this play I began to realize how much of an effect Tennessee Williams
life was affected by his father s absence and his parents failing marriage.
The author s writing style was very simple yet meaningful at the same time. My
overall favorite quote that stuck out to me throughout the whole book was in scene
two on page sixteen when Amanda tells Laura So what are we going to do the rest
of our lives?.... Amuse ourselves with the glass menagerie, darling? (Williams 1999
p.16). I believe this quote is very meaningful because it expresses the way people
are in life. Many people wait for opportunities while others create their own
opportunities for success and this is very important when it comes down to work,
schooling and even relationships.
I really enjoyed this play because there was so much significance within the
characters lives and the author s life. I learned many interesting facts about the
character which managed to capture my attention throughout my research and while
reading the

Isaac Newton Accomplishments
Sir Isaac Newton is commonly thought of as one of the most influential scientists of
all time. During his life, he was recognized as a mathematician, an astronomer, a
theologian, and a physicist. He was an incredible man who had many great
accomplishments during his life. It is said that he contributed to every area of
mathematics that was studied before and during his lifetime.
Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England.
His father was a farmer who died before he was born. He was small and weak when
he was born prematurely and was not expected to survive. When Isaac was about
two years old, his mother remarried a prominent minister. She soon moved to live in
a neighboring village with her new husband and left Isaac to be raised by his
grandmother. He remained with his grandmother for nine years until the death of his
step father.
When Isaac was 12 years old, he started school at The King s School in Grantham,
England. He studied Latin, Greek, and math there until the age of 17. He briefly left
the school when his mother decided that he should become a farmer, something he
was not interested in. She was eventually persuaded to let him finish his education by
the headmaster of his school. While there, he excelled in his studies and eventually
came to be known as one of the best students.
In 1661, at the age of 18, Isaac started attending Trinity College in Cambridge. He

Lunge For The Sponge Research
My project Lunge for the Sponge went pretty well with research and
experimentation but there were a few problems and things I would like to point
out . If you are going to do this again make sure to use the same measurement as I
did because you are most likely to get a different number in for example liters than
milliliters. Also make sure you say the amount that s left in the bowl not the
amount that the sponge soaked up or you will get very different results. If you are
going to use a different brand of sponges or just one the answer of the sponge might
be different since I only tried out four sponges not every brand of sponges. Most
importantly for best results of coping this experiment do exactly as what the
procedure says, or this will defiantly lead to different results. One last thing about my
experiment is make sure that you follow my procedure exactly.

Names In The Renaissance
The Renaissance, a time period painted over like a great canvas with the names of
legendary artists. People in the modern world know mostly the great names like
Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, etc. These names have become
ingrained in culture, so much so that the names have taken on a new persona of four
animated turtles. But like any time period these names barely scratch the surface of a
cornerstone in the history of art. Beginning in the 13th century, known as the Early
Renaissance, the focus of art started to shift from a heavenly perspective down to a
more human perspective. Sciences grew, knowledge of the human body expanded,
and in turn this helped shape artistic trends like they were clay on a potter s wheel.

Identifying Stereotypes
Identifying Stereotypes
In order to make sense of the world, stereotypes are created (RodrГ guez, Saldierna,
MaraГ±Г іn, MuГ±iz, 2013). Stereotypes allow individuals to simplify and organize
information about a certain group, and it also allows individuals to make sense of
situations that are not as familiar to them (RodrГ guez et al., 2013). Stereotypes can be
created consciously or unconsciously (Cardon, 2010), and they can be learned by
personal interaction with a particular group or by learning the stereotype from a
source (RodrГ guez et al., 2013). This is where the media plays a role in teaching
individuals about stereotypes.
More frequently, stereotypes are negative, and they assume that all of the individuals
of a particular group have

The Resilience Of The Jewish People

April 17, 2015
Rough Draft I marvel at the resilience of the Jewish people. Their best
characteristic is their desire to remember. No other people has such an obsession
with memory. Elie Wiesel. The Jewish people never want to forget what happened
to their ancestors, what kind of jobs and tasks they were forced to do in their
lifetimes. Jobs were a huge part of the Holocaust portion of World War II, only
because there were not very many job opportunities available to much of anyone,
especially the people of a Jewish religion. Jobs were limited for most people during
the Holocaust. The Jewish people should have had more job freedoms than they did
because they did not do anything wrong, the only thing the Nazi s even remotely
thought was wrong with them was their religion. Before the Jews got moved into
labor camps, they were told of the jobs they could not have and the certain things
they could not do. They were even banned from working as veterinarians ( Anti
Jewish Laws 15). Most of them got a different job than they had when they entered
the camp. For example, if a Jew was a watchmaker and got put in the camp, they
could make them be a shoe repair man instead (Boyne 126). If a person was sent to
a camp and looked like they were unable to work, that person was sent to their death
( Forced Labor 10). The people that were sent to their death the most were the elderly
and the young children that were barely able to walk, the

The Film Halloween, By Michael Myers
Michael Myers is A Monster to The American Society
As you grow older your views on what you fear change. As a child, I developed a
fear of little things such as ghosts, the dark, etc. Once I grow into an adult I
developed a of things observed on a daily. Americans between the age group of
children and adolescents introduce themselves to bigger fears by watching
movies that replayed on the already experienced fears. For example: Freddy
Krueger, Jason, Vampires, Werewolves, etc. Many people in society watch these
horror movies, and movie goers assume that directors based the movies on serial
killers, who become glorified for the crimes committed and made into huge stars
that we love. In the film Halloween, a little boy name Michael Myers kills his sister
at the age of six. Twenty years later, Michael return s to his home town Haddonfield,
Illinois to kill a group of teenagers that appear around his deceased sister age.
Halloween identifies as one of those gruesome films that you question, because he
was a six year old when he first killed. To society Michael exemplifies monster
qualities because at that age, how can someone so young stab his sister or anyone to
death. Michael Myers poses as a Monster in America, he demonstrates traits of the
devil in him and express his hate by killing his family, by existing in a dysfunctional
family.
Michael watches his sister over sexualize herself, which leads him to kill his sister.

The Game Of Basketball Has Changed The Past

The Ideal Occupational Therapy
The discipline was soon recognized to be therapeutic as one hospital reported
increased 50% in cured individuals and in another 75% (Pringle, 1922). The
patients motivation is a large part recovery, as clients found their handicraft work
provided monetary income and was thus a greater incentive then just doing it for
the therapeutic benefits (Pringle, 1922). Crafts were providing a necessity and were
common activities of daily living for the era (Friedland, 2003). The increase in
success and demand for ward aids led to the increase in educations standards for

more classes for women (Pringle, 1922). The practice of occupational therapy did not

One of the first textbooks in the field by physician Daniel Fuller 1913 (as cited in
Frank, 1992) describe the ideal occupational therapist as a woman having the
personality of teacher and nurse as the stereotypical personality types have a
positive effect on the patients. In the literature, it is frequently notes that women
personality types at the time were seen to be therapeutic, morally superior and the
work associated with the crafts were domestic work of women (Frank, 1992;
Friedland, 2003; Pringle, 1992). Women were seen to bring a level of moral
superiority in comparison to males, in hoping they would bring that to their work of
culture and teachers in the profession (Friedland, 2003), since they came from
middle to high social classes this continued the cycle of upper class women joining
the profession. These female stereotypes became associated with the profession s
identity in the health care field as feminine. This was beneficial for an era where
women did not have many career choices.
During this era, occupations were gender specific and men were not expected to
engage in professions that were considered feminine, since they did not possess
those qualities (Bomia, 1999). The positions of power were held by men and is
reflected in how ward aids were seen to be submissive to physicians (Rider
Brashear, 1988; Frank, 1992). Even the female founders of occupational therapy only
few had a formal leadership role in the beginning, most were instead being
recognised for their part in the profession due to their class standings (Frank,

Psychodynamic Approach To Leadership Analysis
Leadership is the tactics shown by an individual to lead an organization or a group
of individuals. Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who
do things right (Professor Warren G. Bennis). Leaders do right things and shows
right path. They always motivate or guide others to follow this right path. They
create inspiring vision to deliver something new.. They set direction, to win and
steadily improve the present situation as a team by this new inspiring vision Various
factors which contribute equally for the development of a good leader are personality

motivation and inspiration from others, good team work balance of concern for

Benefits Of Being Vegetarianism
Why should humans be vegetarian?
More and more, some good quality meat is becoming very expensive. Since a can
of chickpeas is less expensive and easier to cook, a lot of Quebec College students
decide to take the meat out of their diet. Everyone should do like those people and be
vegetarian for the benefits that it as for society and the environment. This diet is
good for the human health, it helps save the planet and it helps save the animals.
First, there are many health benefits that comes with being vegetarian. In the Harvard
Health Publishing, the searchers describe the way that vegetarianism can help your
body. Compared with meat eaters, vegetarians tend to consume less saturated fat
and cholesterol and more vitamins C and E, dietary fiber, folic acid, potassium,
magnesium, and phytochemicals (plant chemicals), such as carotenoids and
flavonoids. As a result, they re likely to have lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol,
lower blood pressure, and lower body mass index (BMI), all of which are associated
with longevity and a reduced risk for many chronic diseases. The major diseases
that vegetarianism can prevent are heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes. In
fact, vegetarians are 25% less likely to die from a heart disease than meat eaters. This
means that a lot of people could be saved with this diet. Personally, if I could do
anything to live longer and healthier, I would do it. Nowadays, we eat a lot of junk
food, and more and more people are dying because

Yellow Xanax Research Paper
The Different Types of Xanax and Abuse
As doctors write more prescriptions, the number of people who abuse and become
addicted to these substances increases. In the United States, we are currently
experiencing an epidemic of drug abuse and addiction. One of the most commonly
abuse prescription drugs in America is a benzodiazepine drug known as Xanax (or
Alprazolam), due in part to the drug s availability. In 2011, approximately 50
million people had a prescription for Xanax. This number was greater than the
number of prescriptions for similar medications like Ativan and Valium. Xanax is
also a popular choice for drug abuse, because it can produce a powerful high when it
is misused. In fact, in 2011, about 61,000 people sought treatment for ... Show more

Since this is a very high dose, each bar contains four tiny pieces that are separated
by scores, so the user can split them if necessary. If you want to stop taking white
Xanax bars, you slowly decrease your dose or you will experience strong withdrawal
symptoms.
Yellow Xanax comes in bar form and it features the number 039 inscribed on the
front. This is actually the generic form of the drug, but it produces same effects as
the traditional white Xanax. Yellow Xanax is the equivalent of 2 milligrams of the
drug.
Green Xanax is produced by a number of different pharmaceutical companies. Like
the white and yellow bars of the drug, green Xanax is 2 milligrams of the drug and it
produces the same effects. The only different is in the appearance of the drug.
Blue Xanax is a 1 milligram dose in an oval or elliptical shape. Most of the time,
these pills are scored, so the user can break them in half. Although this is a smaller
dose of the Xanax, it is still very addictive.
Peach or Orange Xanax is a lower dose of Xanax for less severe cases of anxiety. This
comes in the form of a small peach or orange oval pill, which often has the number
257 on the front. This form of the drug is a 0.5 milligram

The Boys In The Boat Chapter 13 Summary
Teamwork is Key
When you get the rhythm in an eight, it s pure pleasure to be in it. It s not hard
work when the rhythm comes that swing as they call it. I ve heard men shriek out
with delight when that swing came in an eight, it s a thing they ll never forget as
long as they live. George Pocock The 1936 Olympics was an international multi
sport event held in Berlin where eight young boys, against all odds, managed to row
their way to their first gold medal in the eights rowing competition. The Boys in
The Boat by Daniel James Brown delves into the stories of Joe Rantz and
Washington s rowing organization before their victory in the Olympics, revealing
the many obstacles they had to overcome to gain the coveted gold medal. At the
beginning of Chapter 13, the epigraph above describes the beauty and efficiency of
the swing in rowing, where a team begins to row in sync in an almost magical
fashion, leading to an amazing increase in performance. The following chapter
described the creation of the rowing crew and their victory at the Pacific Coast
Regatta over their rivals in California. Their victory, however, was only possible
through the crew s performance as a team, achieving the swing that Pocock s
described in the epigraph. Teamwork is essential to the success of any organization,
large or small. The necessity of teamwork was especially emphasized through
Pocock s comparison between a rowing crew and a symphony, stating If one fellow

Speaker 2:First it s a dark brown dog, now it s killing the spider, what are you trying
to do here?
[Overlapping talk]
Interviewer:So, what would you have done differently, if you could have done it over?
Jenny:I think maybe I would have typed up my notes and my process without doing a
numbered outline. Then, have kids go through and pick, say we wanted five most
important steps, and grouped them in more of the thought process than just writing it
down. For simplicity, they saw the model and it went quickly, so I don t know if that
would have been better or not.
Interviewer:Just a thought. What do you think Sara?
Sara:I agree with that, mostly because they were getting really stuck on that we
could only have this amount of steps. When I was trying to ask them to step back
and look at the big picture and the whole text, they weren t really getting that either.
Particularly in my fifth hour, because we already had enough steps. Going through,
when I think back to the modeling process that I did before with them, I had the role
cards, and I used that to guide which of these strategies am I using.
I almost was to start with commonly used writing strategies and have them identify
which ones I am using, as I am working on this outline. I think we have to go back
even further with them to talk about those writing strategies, because we haven t
really ever talked about anything besides outlining before. Like, in terms of a
structured lesson, I think.

Confucius s Roles In China During The Tang Dynasty
The Master said, Devote yourself to what must rightly be done for the people...one
who is humane first does what is difficult and only thereafter concerns himself with
success (Confucius 3). This quote is from The Analects, which is an anthology of
texts that highlight the teachings of Confucius. Confucius founded Confucianism, a
religionor system of teachings that emphasize the earth and nature, and how one
should act, especially towards others. These Confucian values are evident in many
works of literature throughout Chinese history. One of these pieces, The Story of
Yingying, expresses Confucian ideals, but it also challenges them. The two main
characters, Yingying and Zhang, struggle to balance their lives while still trying to

Initially, women were not supposed to participate in anything besides the
domestic side of life. However, these ideas about women and their roles in society
started to crumble as some women took their fate into their own hands and gained
power in China. Empress Wu Zetain was one of the key figures during the Tang
Dynasty who proved that women could do more than just take care of their homes.
She was the only female to take on the role of emperor, and do so successfully.
Although she was ruthless and did anything to gain and keep her power, she paved
the way for feminism in China. Literature began to express this by describing
women as beautiful and confident. This was very different compared to previous
writings in which women kept to themselves in their private dwellings, never
crossing into the public sphere. This is evident in The Story of Yingying when the
author describes Yingying with beauty that was extraordinary, so radiant it took
the breath away (Zhen 68). The story also mentions that Yingying ...writes a lot.
She is always reciting poetry to herself and is moved by it for a long time after
(Zhen 69). Women during the Tang Dynasty were talented. They could read and
write, and by emphasizing Yingying s love for poetry and including some of her
work in the story, readers sees just how much more freedom women were given.
Women were now well educated, giving them the opportunity to write poetry and
take on more roles that were previously only performed by

Today, was my second day onsite at the Watsonville Law Center. When I arrived I
logged into a computer and started typing my notes from the door to door solicitation
/consumer intake. Upon typing my notes I realized that I was missing important
information from the Sandra s claim. Fortunately, I had my supervisors notes to
verify the information I was missing. In Capstone, I have learned that this Country in
the past has oppressed, low income minorities by depriving them from living in white
collar neighborhoods, white collar jobs, voting, and education. When I completed
typing my notes I printed a copy and presented it to my supervisor, Adriana, for

that had been brought in by clients. Upon completing that task I was told to file a
total of 25 files.
When I arrived back from my lunch break, I continue to file the remaining files that
need to be filed. Then, Adriana, gave me my notes back with feedback. I went back
to a computer and edited my notes. Right when I was finished editing my notes, I

Relationship Between Educational Staff And Children s...
Assesment 3 EDU10002 (Newsletter Artical)
Explain the value of working in partnership with parents/families to support children s
language and literacy learning.
The value of working in partnership with parents/ families is as follows,
Firstly this is a collaborative relationship between Educational staff, the child/ student
and their families. The value of working with parents and families to support children
s language and literacy are important as this gives the educational staff to
communicate with the parties involved so that everyone has an understanding of the
child /students need. Understanding that each and every partnership built between
families and educational staff will be different and unique depending on the
individual child and their family.
Each family will respond better to feeling like they can approach educational staff or
vice versa, if this partnership has been developed in the first place.
In saying this the value of this being so that if the family is aware of any concerns
they may have for their child / student they can forward this to the educational staff.
That way the child can get help and assistance for any of the parent concerns shown.
The benefits of this can be that the child / student can be assisted in their language
and literacy development, for present and future time which ever setting the child
may be in. The help that is available for the children / students of today is to help in
all aspects with cultural barriers, beliefs and values,

The Holy Spirit Of St. Basil
The Holy Spirit has been a topic of discovery, and debate far much longer than
people realize. The Holy Spirit has been influencing people in the Bible, but also in
the 4th century. The Holy Spirit like today was a topic of debate even in the 4th
century. St. Basil the Great was a man of God who wrestled, defended, and lived by
the Holy Spirit. St. Basil was born in Caesarea of Cappadocia in 330 where he was
born into a large family, some who were also honored among the saints (Online
Catholic). The time period St. Basil was born into was a very significant time for the
church. St. Basil was impactful during this significant time because of the training,
the roles he took, and the conversations/ writings he had. Basil started off his... Show

The debate ended in most of the church adopting the belief that God the Father is of
the same substance of God the Son.
During the great controversy the other part of the trinity was forgotten. Fast
forwarding to Basil s adult years, the same controversy is taking place. This time
the controversy is dealing with the idea that the Holy Spirit is from the same
substance of both God the Father and God the Son. The church at the time believed,
the Holy Sprit, they say, must not be ranked with the Father and the Son, because he
is different in nature and lacking in dignity (55). Many theologians of the time
believed that the Holy Spirit was not of the same substance of God and Jesus Christ.
St. Basil is outraged by the opinion of these people and does not sit back. Most of
Basil s writing is to prove the miss use of his opponent s words, and failing to read
the scripture. He writes,
For they use an old trick discovered by AГ«tius, the leader of this heresy, who wrote
somewhere in his letters that differences in nature are expressed differently, and, on
the other hand, that things that are expressed differently in nature (30).
St. Basil challenged the readers of his day to consider the role of the Holy Spirit the
same way they considered the Son to the Father. His writings influenced the churches
theology to believe and give credit to the Holy Spirit as part of the trinity. While
reading St.

Kim Dovey Becoming Places Summary
In Kim Dovey s Becoming Places, she begins by introducing the concepts of place
and space. As Dovey distinguishes between the two concepts, she explains that
place tends to connect social and spatial, whereas space is simply concerned on the
physical space itself. In other words, as Dovey describes, while a spacehas physical
dimensions, intensity gives rise to the potency and primacy of place (Dovey, pg.
3). Dovey goes on to explain the general use of place in academic discourse and
how it tends to differ from the use of the concept in everyday life. From a
philosophical standpoint, place has emerged from the Greek topos, a concept which
stresses the inseparable nature of both place and being or existence. Moving forward

Irish Airman Myth
Contrary to what General George S. Patton believed, wars may be fought with
weapons, but they are not won by men. War is often characterized by tales of great
valor performed by courageous warriors willing to stake their lives in order to
defend their country, but such people are few and far between. What history so
often neglects is the silent majority of almost any army: the rank and file, the so
called average Joes that lose any sense of individuality as they disappear within a
horde of identical bodies. Fighters in a warare just that. Fighters. They leave behind
whoever they were back home in favor of becoming a anonymous puppet with a
rifle fighting a war they may not even care about. Truly, war does not provide a
blank canvas upon which each man paints his own epic, rather it strips away
whatever identity one possesses and replaces it with that of a brave, yet faceless,
soldier. While many stories glamorize the actions of the soldier that goes down in
a blaze of glory as he battles marvelously against overwhelming odds for a greater
good, not everyone can be that hero of legend. In An Irish Airman foresees his Death
by William Butler Yeats, the titular character serving as a pilot in World War I
believes that those that I fight I do not hate, and those that I guard I do not love

The new Manifest Destiny, essentially U.S expansionist fever, leads to our

in the future. This 3 month long war was diminutive and swift but showed how the
US were unprepared, obviously by their landing at Daiquiri. What followed were
naval attacks in the Philippines, which the US had occupied and later taken over. We
maintained a streak of victories in both Cubaand the Philippines. The events that
transpired in these areas will most likely continue to shape our future along with

Gandhi s Vision and Life in Attenborough s Films
Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869 1948), the man, the legend, is still echoing in the
contemporary world. He had a vision for his birthplace, in the wake of colonization
and war, to be tolerant, violent free and neutral towards all religions. Gandhi had
chosen the secular state, that is, the state that was neutral but not hostile to religions
(Parel Brown, 2011, p. 161). He rejected what was considered progressive and
fashionable; to put the responsibility of state cruelty on the victims, criticizing them
for fighting excesses. Subsequently, affording the perpetrators an opportunity to
inflict more punishment on the people. Through discussing Gandhi s philosophical
approach and Attenborough s film successes in depicting his ideas, this essay will
demonstrate how Gandhi s vision and life relates to that of the Sufi Sheikh and
monk in Al Mureed and Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring Again films
respectively. During the early 1940s, India was going through a historical turmoil
agianst British colonization. Gandhi, among others, refused submission to the
perpetrators. He realized that submission demeans human dignity and ensures
absolute slavery. They see life only in terms of jobs, even if menial in nature, and
some sort of economic benefits even if these are leftovers of what is rightfully
yours. Their advocacy is for grooming people to become well fed slaves instead of
accepting temporary hardships for a life of freedom and dignity. For them submission
is a supreme virtue

The Trade and Use of Drugs in Latin America Essay
Films often depict the trade and use of drugs in Latin America as an extremely violent
situation. Countries like Columbia or Mexico are usually where the drugs come from
while the United States are the destination. More times than not, Latin America plays
the role of an antagonist while the United States plays the protagonist. A film about
Latin America, when pertaining to the United States, can fall into one of three
categories: fully Latin American, a joint effort between Latin American countries
and the United States, or a film by the United States. Gerado Naranjo s Miss Bala
(2011), is a Mexican film that is set in Tijuana, Mexico, and follows a young Mexican
pageant girl as she becomes mixed up in the Mexican drug cartels. Maria Full... Show

Main differences in these films are not in the depictions of the drug cartel, most likely
because they are, in actuality, as bad as they seem on film. Differences arise in
how the drugs relate to those using them or moving them, how they impact the
characters, and the role the United States plays in relation to the characters and
cartel. Drug cartels, in reality, are just as bad as they appear on film. Authorities
estimate that between eighteen and thirty nine billion dollars are brought in from
drug sales to the United States each year (Keefe). It is also estimated that the war
on drugs has caused over 50,000 deaths in Mexico alone since 2006 (Keefe).
Deaths are often overlooked because they are not compiled by thousands at once,
but gradually over a large area. Other illegal activity such as kidnapping and oil
theft have came about from the cartel (Mexico s Drug Trafficking Organizations:
Source and Scope of the Violence). All three films, Miss Bala, Maria Full of
Grace, and Traffic give similar accounts to the way the cartel takes people s lives,
only in different areas of the drug moving process. Miss Bala shows a firefight
between the DEA (drug enforcement agency) and the Tijuana cartel. This firefight
contains heavy weaponry and lots of gunshots, but few people. Less than twenty
cartel members can be seen in this firefight while even fewer DEA agents are seen. A
beautiful young woman, Laura Guerrero (Stephanie Sigman), is the main
