Speech On Exams
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
Albert Einstein wrote, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it
will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
The purpose of this speech is to explain how exams fail to fulfil their purpose of indicating ability.
Examinations, by definition, are 'a formal test of a person's knowledge or proficiency in a subject or
skill'. However, this definition itself is flawed; a student's ability to pass a test is a shallow
assessment of their proficiency in the career they choose to pursue. This brings me to my primary
question: Do examinations really provide as an adequate indication of ability?
Imagine a world where intelligence was not limited to the answers students...show more content...
Exams have caused a lack of enthusiasm in the mindset of scholars and encouraged students to have
superficial knowledge which doesn't last long. At the cost of writing exams are many individuals
who do not succeed in a certain profession because they performed poorly on a particular exam. A
change needs to be made to the system of education by creating a scheme which encourages students
to work consistently and enthusiastically, and offers greater opportunity for each and every student to

Managing Exam Stress Essays
Define stress: Stress is the body's natural response to a threatening situation, and stress causes the
release of hormones such as adrenaline, that prepare the body for its instinctual response to a threat:
flight, fight or freeze. The adrenaline causes processes in your body to change, for example, your
breathing and heart rate quicken, your senses sharpen, muscles tighten and your blood pressure is
raised. These changes allow your reaction time to increase, which could mean the difference between
life and death. However, many people, including students, live in stressful situations every day, and
this has a negative effect of their health.
Factors causing exam–related stress: One of the main causes of exam–related stress is the...show

There is a fear of disappointing a person such as a family member with poor academic results from
exams, or not being accepted into a tertiary institution. This fear motivates the student to do well, but
also creates stress because of the thought of not achieving top marks or being rejected from their
ideal university because of low exam results.
Inadequate exam preparation is a major cause of exam–related stress because the student feels like
there isn't enough time to study everything, and so they lose sleep because of worry or studying late
into the night. There are feelings of despondency and a sense of being overwhelmed by the amount
of work to study. Also, last minute studying lowers the chance of the facts being remembered, which
increases anxiety and stress during exam time. A lack of sleep before an exam, as well as not
having a proper breakfast or vitamin supplement also increases stress levels because the student is
tired, irritable, worried and the student's immune system weakens during stressful times such as
exams, increasing their chance of getting sick.
Learners' responses to exam situations: Nicky Hayes, the editor of Foundations of Psychology, says
that common responses to "exam stress" include disturbed sleep patterns, tiredness, worry, irregular
eating habits, increased infections because of a lowered immune system, and an inability to
concentrate. This is due to the increased amount of adrenaline being released into the body.
Indecisiveness,

Exam Week Essay
Coming from Rome, Italy this blog was very intriguing, it talks about how to survive exams. This
certain exam week was for the fall semester, that starts October 9th to October 13th. In the course
of the week prior to the exams, students study very fiercely into their textbooks and anxiously
await their grade. This can be a very frustrating week according to this "blogger" we will call him
"Rwulf". The anticipation leaves students very nervous and afraid. Even seeing the scary word
"EXAM" in any circumstance. This blogger describes this toxic atmosphere to "an immensely
gloomy atmosphere" surrounds our residence and school, 24 hours of the day. The tendency to go
overboard with studying and the complete stress can really wear students...show more content...
In many circumstances of trying to survive stress from exams in a foreign country might appear
difficult. If you take anything from those who study overseas is taking the advice of just sometimes
making things better and not worse, especially if you attend Temple Rome.
This blog caught my attention, I always find myself, to do better and taking suggestions is a part
of this transformation. If anyone knows about transformation it should be me. One of the biggest
things I took from this blog is, my studying location is a good thing to consider in your quest for
the best grade you can get. Finding a good place to study and make it your own. The more time
you spend in this special place, the more it will become associated with the work of learning. I
struggle with many issues in my life, and because of all the competing situations for your attention,
it's hard to concentrate on studying. And yet I am in school, you must do at least a little studying
to progress from year to year. The key to effective studying isn't cramming or studying longer, but
definite studying smarter. You can begin studying smarter with these ten proven and effective study
habits. I can't "force" myself to be in the right mindset, and it is during such hard times I should
simply avoid studying. being distracted by a relationship issue, bills, children then I found out that
studying is just going to be very frustrating. I will now try and come back to it when I am

Exam Anxiety and Stress
What is exam anxiety?
Most students feel nervous when they saw their exam dates on the school/college notice board. But
those students who experience extreme panic regarding upcoming exams are considered as exam
anxiety cases. Most times students find themselves worried for exam for the excess fear of being
evaluated in exams. Also nervousness about the penalty or embarrassment from family and friends
makes it wicked. Exam anxiety and stress is experienced by many normal students in their school
and college days.
Starting from the pre–exam to results declaration days the students cope with anxiety and stress due
to exam. Anyone can find–out a student who is experiencing exam anxiety and stress from his/her
behavior. It's quite normal and controllable by the following helpful tips and tricks.
Prime sources of exam anxiety and stress:
Lifestyle:
Inadequate rest in the exam time highs the exam anxiety and stress level more. Also the students
don't take care of their health like poor nutrition strengthens the sickness. It directly influences the
exam anxiety and stress growth. Insufficient physical exercise and using of excessive stimulants
hampers the brain functions. Also maintaining a rundown attitude and giving less priorities to the
commitments or own study plan makes the route worsen.
Lack of information:
The absence of proper study plan and effective time management leads to an intensified level of
exam anxiety and stress. Actually the wrong exam appearing strategies

Reflection On Final Exam
Final Exam Essay The reflection quote at the beginning of the exam instructions is an interesting
thought. I see myself reflecting more on the life aspects of this quote versus the complexities of
how it affects my writing abilities. I entered into this course with few expectations of my writing
abilities after my last composition course. There are still more flaws in my writing abilities than
perfections. However, the confidence has been built to be able to complete writing assignments for a
future employer. My process in writing an essay, report, or proposal has remained the same from
the first composition course to this technical course. I can write adequately but do still struggle
with different aspects of the composition process. My expectations starting this class in May were
extremely low after the struggles with the first composition course I completed. My goal was to do
my best and just try to maintain a passing grade. However, this course was different, there was a
practicality involved that I crave to do my best work. It was interesting to put together the financial
plans of a non–existent company that in realty will never come to pass. The TV show "Shark Tank"
makes these presentations seem easy. But it does not show the many hours the owners must put in to
make their presentations perfect. The PowerPoint presentation assignment took me several hours
and retakes to complete. In addition, the hours of research on long–arm quilting machines to make
sure that my

Can Tests Measure a Student? Essay
Throughout an academic life students will be asked to take part in prestigious exams, or as they
are more commonly known as the standardized exams. Do these exams really measure a student's
academic ability or does it merely measure their progress? Although these exams cannot measure
how intelligent a student is they can show a student's progress within the subjects that they are
being tested on. Therefore, when students are informed that these exams are going to be used to
see their progress they will not feel discouraged while taking the exams. So instead of feeling
stressed or discouraged they will be motivated to do well on the exams, since their goal is to see
progress within themselves. Progress is what teachers want to see in...show more content...
For example, there are plenty of students that " are smart and understand the content, but it doesn't
show on the test." (Columbia University The Pros and Cons Of Standardized Testing) It may seem
like a humorous point but there are some students that " develop test anxiety which hinders
performance..."(Columbia University The Pros and Cons Of Standardized Testing) but it not
only affects those taking the exam it also affects the teachers with some teachers quitting their job
since there is so much pressure on them to have their students ready for these exams. These tests
are also given to young kids from the age groups of five to ten years old, students at this age still
do not fully grasp the idea of why they are taking these exams and will begin to feel anxious and
nervous which "can lead to negative health consequences as well as feelings of negativity directed
at school and learning in general." (Columbia University The Pros and Cons Of Standardized
Testing) The results can be that a student will give up and just bubble in what ever they feel like just
so that they can get through the exam and not have to worry about it anymore. So why should these
obstacles be reflected on the students score, or

Essay on My Examination as a Writer
My Examination as a Writer
The process of examining me as a writer is not easy. Writing, for me, has never been an easy task.
Many times I sat for hours contemplating my blank piece of paper just trying to figure out how to
begin to write the creative writing assignment due in a few days for my high schoolEnglish class. I
knew that learning to write well took patience and practice, much like learning any other skill. I
remember the long hard hours I spent developing my skills as a skateboarder. I knew that I had to
find the same attitude to develop my writing skills. I knew also that I wanted to continue my
education and pursue a law degree. Definitely my writing skills had to be developed.
This September I...show more content...
However, this semester has truly allowed me to develop my confidence as a writer. I was not asked
to write something out of nothing. The writing tasks have generated from already written selections.
I have come to understand that reading and writing are interrelated. By becoming a better reader, I
become a better writer. Reading is, thus, a springboard to writing. This semester reading has provided
the guidelines for my writing assignments. I had to analyze something already written, internalize
the meaning and re–write it in my own words. This strategy gave me the assurance I needed to
develop my English writing skills. I have grown in vocabulary and I have grown in my ability to
express my ideas. Reading and then writing in response to that reading gave me confidence because
my response was my creation. Each person is unique in his/her manner of expression, thereby,
producing unique pieces of writing.
Throughout my college courses, I know that I will be called on to do much writing in response to
material read. I will have to analyze the ideas presented by different authors and react to them
using my own words. I will also be asked to respond to literary works and I may, perhaps, have to do
creative writing of many kinds. This is the beginning of a lifelong program of reading and writing. I
know that it is a sustained process of recursive reading and writing where I will constantly evaluate

Best Ways To Study Essay
Three Best Ways to Study For many students studying for an exam or a test can be very stressful.
For a lot of them studying is very hard because sometimes most of the materials they study, they
don't remember on the actual test or exam. However there are more than one way to study and
most theses studying methods can be very helpful and very reliable. A Lot of students tend to cram
all the studying two or the night before the test and according to UCLA professor of psychiatry
Andrew J. Fuligni (2012) cramming and trying to get as much information in your head two or a
night before the test is very counterproductive. How to study properly Although there are many ways
and methods of studying whether it be scientific or a family belief ,...show more content...
A second method of studying is by studying in an appropriate setting (Chadron State College).
Studying in an environment where distraction is very easy to find is very difficult. Studying in a
quiet setting with a lot of space away from distraction can help you study and can help memory
performance. With this setting it's also helpful to be consistent with the studying, studying at the
same time and same place is very effective especially when this is done 2 –3 weeks prior to the test
quiz or exam. With the proper setting, proper setting is also necessary. " Your study desk or table
should be equipped with all the materials you might need to complete the assignment, e.g., pencils,
pens, erasers, paper clips, stapler, dictionary, snacks, and liquid refreshments, etc." – Chadron State
College. Adding items that can help you study and removing things that might distract is also need
for effective studying. The third and final method of studying that is effective is studying while
listening to music. According to Goodwin (2015), studying with music before a test can improve
attention and can help lessen depression and anxiety. The "Mozart effect" is known to be helpful
but of course today the effects will be very different since students don't tend to listen to Mozart.
The type of music played also plays a pig role of studying. Studying with music that has lyrics is not
