Checklist for Analysis 14
Modelling Checklist Match material properties, earthquake load coefficients, wind load coefficients defined in the model with DBR. Check if over the roof facilities, e.g. overhead water tank, lift machine room, are modelled and not just their loads taken as external loads. Check if inclined staircase slab is modelled along with mid landing beams. Presence of both of these elements increases the stiffness of staircase supporting columns. This increased stiffness attracts extra load which is missed if not modeled properly in the computer model. 15
Continue.. Slab and wall elements should be meshed properly with maximum 1m x 1m meshing size. Mesh sizes should not be skewed. Their aspect ratio should be kept below 2, as far as possible. Stiffness modifiers are defined for wall / column / beam / slab elements . Check the presence of floating column. If such columns are present, their location should not be central or supporting significant area over the floors. Check if the beams for such columns are adequately supported on column or shear walls. Check the story stiffness graph to compare the overall trend of story stiffness from bottommost story to topmost story. 16
Checklist for E-Tab Analysis Check the deflection of load cases due to gravity and lateral loads visually and with animation. Any excessive deflection should be noticed and checked in detail. Check overall deflection and inter-story drift for wind and earthquake load cases. Check maximum deflection of beam elements to meet serviceability requirements. Check the modal analysis results. Time periods should be reasonable as per the height of the building. 17
Continue…. Time periods should be reasonable as per the height of the building. Define the Mass source correctly. Define the load cases correctly. Animate first few mode shapes to check if the displacement is appropriate. Check modal mass participation factor and contribution of first few dominant modes as per IS 1893 and IS 16700 (if applicable). If response spectra load cases are defined, check if the base shear is matching with that of the equivalent static method. 18
