KICK-OFF MEETING
WORK PACKAGE 2 PRESENTATION
INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOVOICE
•PhotoVoice is a participatory visual methodology that encourages and supports people - particularly
those from marginalised or underrepresented communities - to document, reflect on and
communicate their experiences through photography.
•At its core, PhotoVoice gives people with cameras, the basic skills to use them so they can capture
images that represent their daily lives, challenges, strengths and visions for the future.
Photo+ Voice
•These images are typically accompanied by narratives or captions, adding context and personal
meaning.
INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOVOICE
•The PhotoVoice method is rooted in principles of social justice and community empowerment.
•Participants create visual stories while also engaging in group discussions, reflecting on the
themes emerging from their photos and exploring collective solutions to the issues they
portray.
•The ultimate goal is to use these visual narratives to influence public dialogue, educate others
and advocate for policy change.
INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOVOICE
•PhotoVoice has been widely used in fields like education and community development; and it is
especially effective when working with young people, migrants, or others who may face
structural barriers to having their voices heard.
•In the context of EUnited, PhotoVoice will be used with young North African migrants to share
their cultural identity, document their journeys and advocate for greater inclusion and
understanding in their host societies.
OVERVIEW
