Everything you need to know about Microsoft Volume Licensing.
Microsoft Volume Licensing is an option for business or organizations purchasing a number of software licenses.
This option comes with a variety of advantages including the rights to run Microsoft software products, and also offers substantial cost savings through bulk purchasing, making it easier on tighter budgets.
There are other benefits that an organization can derive from Enterprise Agreement provided there is a good understanding of what is needed.
Note that, an Enterprise Agreement licensing program for which an organization is eligible is when it has more than 250 desktops (there is standardization on these desktops).
The required number of licenses are purchased after an annual count of the number of standardized workplaces. The price for the Enterprise Agreement licenses is then fixed for a period of three years.
After the 3-year period, the licenses become perpetual, which means that you may use the relevant version and edition of the software forever.
However, do you know that you can save a lot of money by buying used or pre-owned (on- premise ) licenses? These licenses work exactly the same as new ones.
The only difference is that you can sometimes save up to 70% on the costs of these licenses.
We at Q- Advise have years of experience with the purchase and sale of pre-owned Microsoft licenses. Because we are independent, we can provide you with transparent advice.
Together with you, we look at the wishes and needs of your organization before making a decision that best suits you.
Microsoft Volume Licensing is available for organizations
acquiring bulk software licenses. It offers flexible user rights
depending on factors like the number of users or devices
Microsoft considers some of the below factors before selling.
These are;
- The numbers of users in the organization
- The type of organization. (i.e. industry, business model)
- The Microsoft product & Cloud services to be purchase
- Howandwhere the product will be used and duration
Also Microsoft is able to customize agreements to suit
organizations considering the type of industry the organization is,
the business model, whether the organization is small, large or
medium
Microsoft Volume Licensing comes in generally two types. These
are the Perpetual and Subscription licenses
The Perpetual licenses runs the period usually between one and
three years. If you add Software Assurance to your perpetual
license you can get benefits like spread payment and new version
rights
The Subscription licenses on the other handis a renewal monthly or
annual agreement. Added to the subscription license is the
maintenance, technical support and upgrade fees
Microsoft has Volume Licensing for small business. The options for
the small business are either the Open Value Agreement and Open
Value Subscription
The Open Value Agreement provides the Software Assurance
benefit and a license structure based on annual payments. With
this agreement you have the opportunity to ownit
Open Value Subscription comes with Software Assurance and is an
agreement type for smaller organizations between 5 and 250
users. This is a subscription base offer that requires signing up
For midsize and large organizations, the Microsoft Products and
Services Agreement (MPSA) Microsoft Enterprise Agreement and
Enterprise Agreement Subscription are available
MPSA are Perpetual agreements with optional Software
Assurance attached for a three-year duration
The Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA) comes with the
traditional licenses offers as well as cloud-based services.
Software Assurance is part of the agreement and hasa duration of
threeyears
Enterprise Agreement Subscription is the subscription version of
the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement
There is also the Microsoft Products and Services Agreement
(MPSA) which is the Microsoft Products and Services Agreement
(MPSA) tailored for academic, commercial and government
organizations. It also allows for licensing of Microsoft cloud services
or on-premise software as well as options for Software Assurance
