Evolution of Unreserved Ticketing System ( UTS ) 1
Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) is the predominant ticketing system on Indian Railways in terms of the number of passengers it serves. Twenty one million passengers travel daily on Indian Railways using the unreserved journey facility. An unreserved ticket authorizes these journeys but as the name implies, offers no reserved seats or berths . This facility is predominantly used by commuters and suburban travelers – over short distances where assured seating is not a necessity. The application was rolled out in Aug 2002 and is now operational at nearly 6229 locations over 16 Zones of Indian Railways and KRCL . 2 1. About UTS Project
