EXERCISE FOR FITNESS CHAPTER 1

WHAT PROGRAMS ARE BEING IMPLEMENTED BY NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO ENCOURAGE FILIPINOS TO REDUCE PHYSICAL INACTIVITY?

Department of Health (DOH)/ World Health Organization (WHO). Have implemented strategies that promote an active lifestyle in the past decade. physical activity programs - HATAW, E-di Exercise, Mag HL tayo and Go4Health. * That aim to decrease the prevalence of sedentary lifestyle.

NONCOMMUNICABLE DISEASES Heart disease Vascular disease And Cancer has replaced tuberculosis and pneumonia. Primary causes of death among Filipino .

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & EXERCISE Involves any bodily movement caused by muscular constructions that result in the expenditure of energy . Is a planned program of physical activities usually designed to improve physical fitness with the purpose of increasing physical fitness level.

According to the guidelines, adolescents should have at least one hour of varied daily physical activity, wherein at least 40 minutes from the structure and physical activity. (i.e., exercise, sports, dance) and at least 20 minutes in high-impact play.

Physical fitness? Could be defined as the optimum level of health where healthy individuals can perform daily activities free from any form of fatigue . ALSO improves not only your physical health but also your mental ability to cope with uncertain events or occurrences

PHYSICALLY FIT Is a condition that allows the body to effectively cope with the demands of daily activities and still has the energy to enjoy other active leisure activities. It is an individual task without undue fatigue and with extra reserve energy in case of emergency. individuals have the capacity to maintain and do daily tasks without experiencing stress making it easier to meet daily demands.

COMPONENTS OF FITNESS HEALTH RELATED FITNESS Aerobic capacity Muscular strength Muscular endurance Flexibility Body composition SKILL RELATED FITNESS Agility Balance Coordination Power Reaction time Speed

HEALTH RELATED FITNESS Aerobic Capacity- ability of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels to supply oxygen. Muscular Endurance- it is the ability of the muscle to resist fatigue when performing multiple repetitions. Flexibility- it is the ability to move a joint without pain over its entire range of motion. Muscular Strength- it is the ability of the muscle to generate force. Body Composition- as  what our body is made of  and specifically relates to how much stored fat and lean mass our body has.

SKILL RELATED FITNESS BALANCE- is the ability to control your body’s composition. AILITY- is the ability to rapidly change body direction accelerate, or decelerate. COORDINATION- is the ability to execute smooth, accurate, controlled motor responses. POWER- is the ability to overcome resistance in the shortest period of time leading to the ability to produce higher velocities against a given load. REACTION TIME- is an ability often overlooked in sport. How fast is able to response to a stimulus . SPEED- as the ability to move the body in one direction as fast as possible.

Importance of an active lifestyle improves bone, joint, and muscle strength; Develops motor control and coordination; Helps maintain a healthy body composition; Increases the efficiency of the lungs and heart; Increase muscle strength and endurance; Protects from musculoskeletal problems such as “low” back pain; Possibly delays the aging process; Reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease and stroke;

Promotes healthy cholesterol level; Help regulate blood pressure Decreases risk of Type 2 diabetes Reduces the risks of breast and colon cancer Improves control over anxiety and depression; and Builds self-esteem and social interaction.

What types of exercises can be performed to derive these health benefits?

EXERCISES? Are repetitive movements that aim to improve one or more components of fitness. are generally classified as aerobic exercise or stretching exercise.

Aerobic exercise involve large muscles (e.g., thighs) that perform rhythmically and continue the movement for a prolonged period of time in order to improve aerobic capacity.

Resistance exercise require the muscle to contract again an external load (e.g., barbell) in order to improve muscular strength, muscular endurance, and bone strength.

Stretching exercise increase the elasticity of muscles and tendons surrounding the joint in order to improve flexibility .

assignment answer the question below. It is normal for the muscles to increase in size as a result of resistance training? How important is stretching exercise in improving performance? are there psychological benefits from exercise? How do we solve the common barriers to adopting an active lifestyle?
