What is expatriation : The employees expatriation (the transfer of a professional to work in a foreign company’s unit for a certain or not), is an usual strategy adopted by companies. Which have operations in more than one country and aims to expand markets. Provide international concern to their employees, transfer specific knowledge. Fill the needs of specialized workers. Leadership development, implementation of new projects etc……..
MCN(Mother country national): When a company of a country recruits employee from its own country is known as Mother country national. Here the country is called parent country or mother country. Example: When a I ndian international company , recruits employees from india .
HCN (HOST COUNTRY NATIONAL): When a company of a country runs their business in onother country and recruits employees from that country then it is known as HCN. Here the second country is the host country. Example: when a Bangladeshi company runs their business in india and recruits indian citizens for their organisation .
TCN(THIRD COUNTRY NATIONAL): They are the citizens of one country employed by a company from another country who worked in a third country. Example: When a Bangladeshi from recruits Employee from india for their Canada branch.
Explain the process of Expatriation:
1. FINDING WORK: The chances of finding work abroad are fortunately increasingly high ; you can go abroad with programms such as VIE( volunteer for international experience ) , apply for a working holiday visa, become a voluntary worker abroad, do a humanitarian mission, ask your boss to move to a branch abroad, or you could do an intership in a company as part of your studies.
2.GATHER ALL THE NECESSARY PAPER WORK: Different documents will have to be prepared and applied for generally, at the embassy as required by the host country. VISA, Work permit, special pass port regulations, etc ….. you should able to find out all the requirement at the embassy of the country.
3.Know your host country : Essential things to know for a smooth expatriation process :find out its currency (the exchange rate, what you can do with ,let’say$500etc)primary language, living conditions, culture, difficulties that often arise there, ect .
4.Think of your health: Prior to departure, you should have a full health check-up and be vaccinated depending on what is required/recommended in websites such as this one. Also ,don’t your vaccinated certificate .It could be useful .It’s important to have medical insurance to help you out in case of an emergency.
5.Learn the basics of the language: Another important step in the expatriation process is to start learning the language before getting there to facilitate your integration in your host country as early as possible . The minimum you should know is convertion expressions of politeness and basic ,useful vocabulary.
What is Repatriation : Repatriation refers to converting any foreign currency into one’s local currency. Repartriation sometimes becomes necessary due to business transactions, foreign investments,or international travel.
Explain the process of Repatriation :
1.PREPERATION: Before 3-4 months of expatriate return. Devoloping plans for future and info about new position. Checklist of items before leaving (closure of bank a/c, bills etc..) 2. physical relocation : Removal of personal belongings, breaking ties with friends, colleagues before returning. Re-entry training for home country’s update, socio-cultural contrast orientation, psychological aspects etc….
3.Transition: Finding accommondations , school for children, opening bank a/c etc.. For comfortable living. Relocation consultants used. 4.Readjustment: coping with aspect as company changes, reverse culture shock and career demands. example: Repatriation returning from country where power distance is large as Thailand may experience stress on returning to small power distance countries like Denmark.
Conclusion: Expatriation is a great adventure you gain autonomy, an open mind, and new experiences, but it’s always best to think through the expatriation process thoroughly .
