BRA302- Fabrication Methods of Robotics Components By Dr.Selvaraj Manickam M.E., PhD., Professor Department of Automation and Robotics IMPACT College of Engineering & Applied Sciences Bengaluru-5600092. Automation and Robotics 2 nd Year III -Semester Module-1
Identify joining methods for fabrications, and fabricate simple job using joining method.
Methods of Fabrication: Introduction to Fabrication: We often hear the terms “ fabrication” and “manufacturing” used interchangeably, but they actually have different meanings. While both involve the production of a product, they do so in very different ways . In this blog post, we’ll break down the difference between fabrication and manufacturing so that you can better understand how each one works.
Definition of Fabrication Methods: Welding is metallurgical fusion process, where part to be joined by the application of heat and pressure. The Welding is a process of joining two or more, similar or dissimilar metals by heating them to a suitable temperature , with or without the application of pressure, filler materials and flux. Welding is used for making permanent joints. It is used in the manufacture of automobile bodies, aircraft frames, railway wagons, machine frames, structural works, tanks, furniture, boilers, general repair work and ship building.

Machining The purpose of metal cutting operation commonly called machining is to produce a desired shape, size and finish of a component by removing excess metal in the form of chips from a rough block of material. Therefore, primary objective in metal cutting is production of chips; which are removed to obtain a component and eventually the chips are thrown away. These chips may constitute more than 50% of the initial workpiece material. Generally, machining processes should be carried out at high speeds and feeds with least cutting effort at a minimum cost.
It is an oblique cutting and it is a process of creating a hole. Drills are made by forging operation and the material used is HSS steel. Drills are made slightly smaller in size so that there is some margin for reaming.
