Facebook Chat: How to Change Nickname and Color Facebook’s recent Messenger app now lets you customize the chat bubble color, change the name of the friend in a chat thread and set a frequently used emoji so that you can send it to your friend in just one tap. Follow the steps to do it in your phone.

First launch the Messenger app on your phone. You may use IOS or Android device, but the steps are same.

Choose the chat thread that you want to customize. It can be either a group chat or a one-on-one chat. At the top of the screen tap of the thread name. For a one-on-one chat, it will be your friend’s name. For a group chat, it will be group name.

In settings screen, you will see 3 options: Color, Nicknames and Emoji . Pick one of them you want to customize.

All the participants in the current chat thread will be seen in the Nicknames section lists. If you want to set a nickname for someone, first tap on the Set Nickname line, then type the name in the popup window and then tap save. This change will be unique and universal to everyone in that thread. So everyone else will see that nickname instead of the real Facebook name.

It is easy to pick a color for the bubble inside chat. You have to choose color option and then tap on the desired color in the table. You have only 15 color to choose from. This setting will be synced to other people’s devices as well.

The Emoji option gives you quick access to frequently used emoji . From there pick your favorite one and it will be displayed at the end of the chat toolbar. Tapping on this button will send the emoji to your friends.
