I really like the poster design of this movie and I think it has been made very well with great detail. The colour scheme stands out to me as there are only 4 colours which are used in this design and they are black, white, yellow and red. The two colours red and yellow together mixed in the design causes it to look like fire and flames or blood which clearly tells me that this is a action movie. Another feature in this design that tells me this is a action movie is that the characters are holding pistols , riffles and other guns. You can see a group of characters at the top of the screen and can clearly see their faces and appearance which must mean that this group of characters are the main stars, and then underneath them is a large group of people all gathered around a building with their backs facing towards the audience so you can only see the back of their heads and unable to see their face or appearance which must mean that these characters are the bad guys or side characters that the heroes have to fight off against. As I said before the background colour of this poster design is red and yellow which looks like fire and this could be put in the background to represent something sinister that is likely to occur. In addition to this at the top of the page above the main characters in very small red writing it says “Against the streets, they’ll fight to the death.” This is used to give the audience a clear idea that this is a action themed movie, this is the tagline of the film and gives a brief synopses of the story.
This poster design also uses a rhetorical question in the typography because in very small red writing above the tittle it says who will survive. So it says who will survive and then in huge blocky letters it says Assault on Precinct 13. But you can’t answer the question as you don’t know the answer unless you go and see the movie. This film does not show any of the ratings which it was given instead it uses a huge picture on the design. Underneath the tittle Assault on Precinct 13 the directors name is put there John Carpenter, and then underneath his name is the actors of the film which are Austin Stoker, Laurie Zimmer, Darwin Joston and Tony Burton. So the director and actors of the films name are put at the bottom the poster design and very small writing this could possible be because they are not very recognised in the film industry or it could simply be because the creators wanted the photo to be the main part of the poster design which is why they put a lot of detail into it.
Mise en scene The mise en scene of this poster design shows a montage of many of the variety of characters from the movie and the main stars are all crowded up together at the top of the page with pistols and riffles in their hands. U nderneath the group photo of the main characters is the building which is a police station, this is in the poster design as it is central to the drama and it’s where most of the film takes place. As I said before the background colour of this poster design is red and yellow which looks like fire and this could be put in the background to represent something sinister that is likely to occur because flames give off a sinister vibe. Typography The tittle Assault on Precinct 13 is in big bold yellow blocky letters, it has a shadow effect with a dark shade behind the letters, this makes it stand out and appealing to look at, it hooks you into it. Some of the letters and numbers have bullet holes in them which is used to clearly show that this is a action themed movie, it suggests fighting, use of guns and lots of action. In addition to this the number 13 has a huge sniper scope surrounding it which also adds to the effect of the bullet holes to clearly show the audience that this is a action themed movie.
