FILTRATION Filtration  is any of various mechanical, physical or biological operations that separate solids from fluids (liquids or gases) by adding a medium through which only the fluid can pass. Process of filtration

FILTER MEDIA The surface upon which solids are deposited in a filter is called the “filter medium”. Properties of ideal filter medium:- It should- Be capable of delivering a clear filtrate at a suitable production rate. Filter even negligible amount. Be inert. Not absorb dissolved materials. Sterile filtration impose a special requirement since the pore size must not exceed the dimensions of bacteria or spores.

SURFACE AREA OF FILTER MEDIUM Rate of filtration INVERSELY proportional to specific surface of filter bed DIRECTLY proportional to surface area of filter medium
