2. ABSTRACT Digital payment apps like Venmo are taking the place of cash for millions of people worldwide as their preferred means of making payments to friends and suppliers. Financial transactions are made more convenient and socially interactive with the help of apps like Venmo . We examine how social connections affect the uptake of the Venmo digital payment system in this paper. We gather all of the 91 million transactions that have been made on Venmo since its launch, creating a social network that links the majority of its 10.5 million members, and we examine the relationship that exists between social connections and financial transactions. Comparing Venmo communities to other interaction networks, we find that they are far more tightly connected and frequently motivated by specialized applications. Transaction communities between users and vendors can be extracted by us.
