A PowerPoint Presentation submitted to Ms. Christine Tablatin by Michael John Duran
Sison (MDM) on July 01, 2014, in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the course
Comp. 1 (Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Use of Internet), Summer, A.Y. 2013-2014.

‘One small step for man,

- Commander Neil Armstrong
one giant leap for mankind.’

WHAT
A moon landing is the arrival of a spacecraft on the
surface of the Moon. *
IS
MOON
LANDING?
This includes both manned and unmanned (robotic)
missions. *

FAST
The first human-made object
to reach the surface of the Moon was the
Soviet Union's Luna 2 mission, on 13
th
of
September, 1959.

The United States' Apollo 11 was the
first manned mission to land on the Moon,

2.

FAST
There have been six manned U.S.
landings (between 1969 and 1972) and
numerous unmanned landings.

FAST
There has been no soft landings
happening from 1976 until 14

THE
Both the USA and the former USSR (Russia) were
determined to be the first nation to land a man on
the moon.
BLASTFROM PAST

In May 1961 US President John F. Kennedy
challenged the nation to put a man on the moon by
the end of the decade.

Apollo 11 was launched
from the Kennedy Space
Centre on July 16, 1969.

On board were Neil Armstrong, the
Commander of the Mission, Michael Collins,
the command module pilot and Edwin ‘Buzz’
Aldrin, lunar module pilot.

The Apollo 11 spacecraft was launched from Cape
Kennedy at 13:32:00 UT on July 16, 1969. After 2
hrs and 33 min in Earth orbit, the S-IVB engine
was reignited for acceleration of the spacecraft to
the velocity required for Earth gravity escape.

Lunar-orbit insertion began at 75:50 ground
elapsed time (GET). The spacecraft was placed in
an elliptical orbit (61 by 169 nautical miles),
inclined 1.25 degrees to the lunar equatorial plane.

At 80:12 GET, the service module propulsion system
was reignited, and the orbit was made nearly circular
(66 by 54 nautical miles) above the surface of the
Moon.

Astronaut Armstrong emerged from the spacecraft
first. While descending, he released the Modularized
Equipment Stowage Assembly (MESA) on which the
surface television camera was stowed, and the
camera recorded humankind's first step on the Moon.

A sample of lunar surface material was collected and
stowed to assure that, if a contingency required an
early end to the planned surface activities, samples of
lunar surface material would be returned to Earth.
Astronaut Aldrin subsequently descended to the lunar
surface.

A plaque was affixed to the leg of the lunar landing
vehicle signed by President Nixon, Neil Armstrong,
Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin, Jr. The plaque
bears a map of the Earth and this inscription:
