2 THIMBLE It prevents chafing/friction. It is a grooved ring of round or oval shape set in the eye of rope or cable to prevent any deformation of the eye. It is made up of galvanized iron, steel, brass.

3 2. shackles Shackle is a connecting device used for connecting a cable of any two parts. It is used to connect the brackets of otter boards at a desirable angle of attack. It is made up of galvanized forged iron.

4 Three types of shackles Anchor shackle - It is used to connect the anchor with the anchor cable. D- shackle - It is used for joining two ropes. Eye bolt shackle – it is used for all types of lines and ropes.

5 3. Swivel Swivels are used to prevent twisting and kinking. Made up of galvanized iron and steel. In trawl net it is used in between otter board and wrap in order to prevent twisting. In troll line it is used in between line and snood wire.

7 4. g-link It is a metallic link attached to the bracket of otter boards and also to the end of each towing wrap of the trawl net. It helps to save time in connecting the towing wrap to the otter board.

8 5. Kelly’s eye It is used for engaging and disengaging the sweep line. It is a combination of two metal rings one for the shackle and other for the Kelley’s eye.

9 6. Stopper It facilitates connection and disconnection of the otter board from the sweep line to Kelly’s eye.

10 7. Hooks Fish hooks are used in line fishing. Hooks are made up of steel and iron. They comes in different shape and sizes. Types of hooks – Hooks without barb Double hook Triple hook Jigs

11 8. Artificial baits It is used for attracting the fish either by their shape, color, or by their reflection. It is mainly applicable to swift-moving fishes. Material used for- Tin, lead, brass, whalebone, feather, plastic fish, etc.

12 9. Squid jigs Squid jigs have a single or double whorl of barbless hook around suitably shaped and colored plastic and metal body.

13 10. Bobbins When the trawler is towed on rough ground, simple footrope rigging will not be sufficient. To avoid the rubbing of the footrope with the bottom of the fishing ground, hemispherical metal or rubber bobbins are used in demersal trawls.

14 11. Purse rings Purse rings are made of bronze, stainless steel, or galvanized iron. The rings are attached to the sinker line of the net through one or two bridles. P reventing fish from escaping by swimming downward.
