INTRODUCTION TO FLIPPED LEARNING Flipped Learning is a learning approach where students study material independently at home through videos, reading materials, or other learning resources before class. While in class, time is spent on discussion, practice, and application of previously learned concepts. Examples, - Students watch grammar teaching videos at home, then in class use the time to practice using the grammar in conversation or writing contexts. - Students read a short story text before class that has been distributed by the teacher, then discuss the theme, characters, and structure of the story in class.

They published their book “Flip Your Classroom: Reaching Every Student in Every Class Every Day” in 2012. Also in 2012, Bergmann and Sams started a non-profit website called the Flipped Leaning Network (FLN) to share information about flipped learning (Flipped Learning Network, 2020). By 2013 it was reported that 29% of American faculty were already flipping their classrooms and another 27% planned to do it in the next year (Bart, 2013). Flipped learning continues to grow in popularity. As of 2018 it was reported that FLN had more than 15,000 members (Panopto, 2018).

The terminology of flipped learning calls the classroom a ‘group space’ and contrasts this with an ‘individual space’. The activities conducted in these spaces have been correlated to Blooms Taxonomy with the lower order skills of remembering and understanding done in the individual space and the higher order skills of applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating done in the group space (Bloom, 1956). Thus, Bloom’s taxonomy is also inverted because traditional dictate that understanding is developed in the classroom.

Advantages and Weeknesses of Flipped Learning Weeknesses Advantages - Increase student engagement because they have control over the time and place of learning. - Allows teachers to focus on applying concepts and helping individual students. - Encourage students to develop independent learning skills. - Requires stable technology access to access learning materials at home. - Requires effective planning and creation of materials by the teacher. - Not all students may be able to study independently at home effectively.

Implementation of Flipped Learning in the Classroom 1) Prepare learning materials, such as videos, reading materials, or other learning resources. 2) Give students access to the material before the class meeting. 3) Use class time to discuss, practice, and support students in understanding the concepts being studied. 4) Evaluate student understanding and provide appropriate feedback.

INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL STORYTELLING Digital storytelling is a learning method that combines traditional narrative elements with digital technology, such as images, audio, video, and text. It allows students to create, edit, and share their stories in an engaging and interactive way. An example of digital storytelling in English learning can be a student project that creates stories in multimedia format. For example, students can create videos about their holiday experiences, adding text and voiceovers to explain their stories in English.

Advantages and Weeknesses of Digital Storytelling Weeknesses Advantages - Increase student engagement: Using digital media can increase student interest and involvement in learning. - Multimedia skills development: Students learn to use various digital tools and develop skills in creating multimedia content. - Creativity: Gives students the opportunity to express themselves creatively through creating multimedia stories. - Accessibility: Not all students may have access to the technology necessary to do digital storytelling. - Learning curve: Students and teachers may need time to learn the tools and techniques necessary to create effective digital stories. - Technical issues: Sometimes, technical issues such as data loss or other technical difficulties can disrupt the learning process.

Digital storytelling provides a systematic procedure that helps educators to design effective instructional activities based on learning objectives. D igital storytelling composed of four main phases, namely (a) preproduction : consists of five particular steps viz. posing questions, exploring topic-related information, writing script, and extracting peer review, presenting oral storytelling, and designing storyboard and story map. (b) production (c) postproduction : the content is arranged and also edited in a suitable manner in order to make a digital story , and (d) distribution : the learners try to share their comments and produce digital stories with others .

In a flipped classroom model, digital storytelling can be a powerful tool for effective learning in several ways: 1) Pre-Class Engagement 2) Self-Paced Learning 3) Content Delivery 4) Active Learning in Class 5) Creation of Student-Centered Content 6) Reflection and Feedback

CONCLUSION In conclusion, the combination of flipped learning and digital storytelling can revolutionize education by promoting active learning, fostering creativity, and enhancing student engagement. Thank You Nurlatifah Usman @namsu_18
