Scientific Writing of a Draft Research Proposal 1. Introduction Background of the Study Statement of the Problem Hypothesis Significance of the Study Scope and Delimitations Definition of Terms 2. Review of Related Literature 3. Methodology 4. Literature Cited /Bibliography

Title page – title of the project must be brief, simple and catchy Science Investigatory Project format 2

Background of the study– The background of the study establishes the context of the research. This section explains why this particular research topic is important and essential to understanding the main aspects of the study. Usually, the background forms the first section of a research article/thesis and justifies the need for conducting the study and summarizes what the study aims to achieve. Science Investigatory Project format 3

Statement of problems/objectives – the nature & scope of the problem should be presented with clarity. Two types of objectives may stated: General Objective – this is related to the problem as given in the early part of the section Specific Objective – this states the purpose of each experiment conducted. Science Investigatory Project format 4

Hypothesis Science Investigatory Project format 5 The Formulation of the Hypothesis has two types namely: the null hypothesis and affirmative hypothesis. Hypotheses is a scientific guess which intends subject for thorough investigation. It is recommended to use null hypothesis in your research project.

Significance of the Study – is basically a written statement that explains why your research was important. It justifies why your research was needed, the impact of your research in your field, its contribution, and how others (audience) would benefit from it. Science Investigatory Project format 6

Scope and Delimitation – The scope details how in-depth your study is to explore the research question and the parameters in which it will operate in relation to the population and timeframe. The delimitations of a study are the factors and variables not to be included in the investigation. In other words, they are the boundaries the researcher sets in terms of study duration, population size and type of participants, etc. Science Investigatory Project format 7

Definition of Terms The definition of Terms has two types: the Dictionary-derived definitions and the Operational definitions which derived from how these terms were used in your research. Science Investigatory Project format 8

Review of Related Literature (RRL) – is a detailed review of existing literature related to the topic of a thesis or dissertation. In an RRL, you talk about knowledge and findings from existing literature relevant to your topic. If you find gaps or conflicts in existing literature, you can also discuss these in your review, and if applicable, how you plan to address these gaps or resolve these conflicts through your study. Science Investigatory Project format 9

Methodology – provides enough details so that a competent worker can repeat the experiments Materials / Equipment  – the exact technical specifications, quantities and source of method of preparation for all materials used should be given. Specifically, built equipment used in the study must be described and the description accompanied by a picture Science Investigatory Project format 10

Treatment / General Procedure – the manner & sequence by which each experiment or set of observations were done & how measurements were obtained should be described in detail. Avoid using the “recipe style” when stating the step-by-step procedure. Use the narrative form in the past tense. Science Investigatory Project format 11

Experimental Design – The methods used to collect data in experimental studies. There are three primary types of experimental design: Pre-experimental research design True experimental research design Quasi-experimental research design Science Investigatory Project format 12

Research Locale– discusses the site/s where the sampling and data collection will take place. Science Investigatory Project format 13

Bibliography – a list of the references used in guiding the research work and writing and paper. Science Investigatory Project format 14
