About This Presentation

Fosfomycin pharmacokinetic, side effects, contraindications

Slide Content

Pharmacokinetics Absorption: When administered orally, fosfomycin is rapidly absorbed in the small intestine and distributed widely to the tissues. The oral bioavailability ranges from 34-58%. Volume of distribution: In healthy subjects, the volume of distribution ( Vd ) of fosfomycin is approximately 0.3 L/Kg. Fosfomycin does not bind to plasma proteins to any significant extent.

Metabolism: Fosfomycin is not metabolized and is predominantly excreted unchanged in the urine. Route of elimination: Fosfomycin is excreted almost entirely by the kidneys. Factors including administration with food, impaired renal function, and older age may reduce the rate of fosfomycin elimination. Half-life: 5 hours

Side Effects: Here are some side effects of Fosfomycin : Nausea Upset stomach Stomach pain Diarrhea Headache Dizziness Weakness Rash Sore throat

Contraindications: Fosfomycin contraindications include: Hypersensitivity Allergic reactions to the medication Pregnancy (unless clearly needed) Breastfeeding Children younger than 12 years old Kidney disease
