Food safety Training & Certification (FoSTaC) is a large scale training programme of Food safety & standard Authority of India initiated with the aim to spread education and raise awareness on Food safety & Standards Act, Rules & Regulation among food business operators . In terms of Section 16(3)H of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has to ensure training (whether within or outside their area)of persons who are or intend to become involved in food businesses, whether as food business operators or as employee or otherwise . It is accordingly desired that all food businesses having central licenses or state licenses should have at least one trained and certified food safety supervisor for every 25 food handlers or part thereof on all their premises . 3. Objectives Of FoSTaC Raising the bar of food safety in the country by Creating an improved environment of self compliance to FSS Act, Rules and Regulations by the responsible food business . Bringing a behavioral change and inculcating a culture of food safety in the country. To enhance the availability of skilled/ trained manpower in the food industry.

Roles of Food Safety Supervisors Food Safety supervisors should carry out periodic onsite training of all food handlers, at least on a quarterly basis and maintain record thereof for the purpose of food safety audits and inspections . To recognize and prevent risks associated with food handling in food business. To train and supervise the other food handlers in the food business premises. Ensure the compliance of food business with all the FSSAI’s requirements. Create a behavioral change in other food handlers regarding personal hygiene, good hygienic/manufacturing practices, safe handling of foods. Responsible for incorporating the culture of food safety in the food business premises

5. Advantages Of FoSTaC Training & Certification Benefits to Food Business Operators(FBO) Enhance the availability of skilled manpower in the field of food safety. Food Safety Supervisors ensures better implementation of Schedule 4 requirements of the FSS Regulations in food businesses which in turn reduces the non-compliance for FBOs during the regulatory inspection and smoothens the operations during pre- audit and audits. Having a food safety supervisor will lead to self-compliance of FSSAI’s schedule 4 requirements and further it reduces the burden of the legal action/ grievances/ complains raised by the consumers, regulatory officials and Food Authority. Build a confidence among the consumers for food safety and maintaining hygiene in their food business premises which reflects on the profit of the food business
