Antimicrobial Agents in Therapy

Slide Content

Control of Microorganisms GBSN (Unit 2 ) Antimicrobial Agents in Therapy Miss Areesha Ahmad Microbiology Lecturer Ph.D Scholar (Microbiology)

Gonorrhea, is a sexually transmitted infection (STI)

Pancreatitis : Swelling and inflammation of the pancreas

Urticaria : skin rash Pruritus : itching Angioedema : Swelling in the lower layers of skin

Spectrum of Activity : First-generation antibiotics are generally effective against a narrow range of bacteria, mostly Gram-positive. Second-generation antibiotics have a broader spectrum, including more Gram-negative bacteria. Third-generation antibiotics have an even broader spectrum and better efficacy against resistant bacteria.

Syphilis is a bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) Lyme disease: bacterial infection that can be transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected tick

Pseudomembranous colitis (PMC) is a severe inflammation of the large intestine's inner lining,

(feel like light headedness) (feel like surroundings are spinning or moving) (abnormal  sensation, typically   pricking  (‘pins and needles’), Neuromuscular blockade (NMB ):   Temporarily prevents muscles from working by blocking transmission at the neuromuscular junction.  Ototoxicity : inner ear or auditory nerve is damaged. Nephrotoxicity : kidneys are damaged by toxic chemicals

Quinolones, also known as fluoroquinolones , are antibiotics that inhibit the activity of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, two essential enzymes in bacteria that regulate chromosomal supercoiling. This inhibition prevents DNA synthesis and can lead to cell death.

Antacids are  a medicine that relieves heartburn and indigestion by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach .

Thrush is a common yeast infection

(upper respiratory infection) Syphilis , Syphilis and Chlamydia: is a bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI)

GI: Gastrointestinal system Flatulence : excessive gas Anorexia : eating disorder

Itching or burning in the perineal area can be uncomfortable and make it hard to sit and sleep . Lethargy , or fatigue, is the state of feeling drowsy, unusually tired, or not alert

8 ounces is equal to  1 cup

A  tanning bed  is a device that emits ultraviolet radiation to give people a tan (make their skin darker).

Tinnitus is the medical term for hearing sounds in your ears Urinary casts: may be made up of white blood cells, red blood cells, kidney cells, or substances such as protein or fat.

S ystemic infection: is an infection that spreads throughout the body's systems Topical: Skin infection

(affecting the skin )   (under the skin) (on the surface)

Immunosuppressant's: medicines that reduce the body's immune response) Antineoplastic drugs: anticancer drugs and chemotherapy

I nhibit the biosynthesis of ergosterol , the main sterol in membranes of fungi. Enzyme ( lanosterol 14- α- demethylase )

(Kidney disease that occurs when the kidneys are damaged by toxic substances) Neurotoxicity occurs when toxins, called neurotoxins, build up in the body's neurological tissue and damage the brain

(eating disorder) (skin rash)

IV (Vital signs ): temperature , pulse, and blood pressure IV infusion (Intravenous infusion ) is  the introduction of a liquid, such as a drug, into a vein or the subcutaneous tissues of the body

An infusion pump is a medical device that delivers fluids, nutrients, or medications into a patient's body in a controlled manner to make sure you get the right amount of fluid or medicine at the right rate

Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that starts in the lymphatic system include the lymph glands

VZU (Varicella zoster virus) RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus) LV ( Lentivirus )   CMV (Cytomegalovirus)

HSV (Herpes simplex virus) HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)

Peripheral neuropathy: nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord are damaged Anticholinergic: This inhibits the nervous system, which is responsible for the body's "rest and digest" function.

Seizures : temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching), behaviors, sensations or states of awareness.

Over-the-counter (OTC) medications, also known as nonprescription medicines

(skin condition worsen) ARC : AIDS-related complex
