GENDER-BASED ISSUES 1. MARGINALIZATION AND STEREOTYPE Women are considered to be non-essential force in the economy despite their crucial role in production. They are mostly excluded from the labour force and their work in the home is not economically valued and compensated, thus considered to be of less importance
GENDER-BASED ISSUES 2 . PERSISTENT GENDER WAGE GAP Women in the Philippines earn only 78% of what men earn , indicating a significant pay disparity that needs to be addressed. The gender wage gap is a clear indicator of the unequal value society places on the labor of women compared to men.
GENDER-BASED ISSUES 3. DOUBLE / MULTIPLE BURDEN Aside from full-time productive work, housework and childcare remain women’s responsibility. Women therefore experience double day, double burden or double shift . Women bear the burden of paid work (as part of the labor force), and unpaid work (at home). Double burden makes it difficult for women to get better jobs and better training and to move up the professional ladder.
GENDER-BASED ISSUES 4 . LOW REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN POLITICS AND LEADERSHIP ROLES Despite having female presidents in the past, the country has a relatively low proportion of women in politics, with only 28% of elected officials being female. This disparity is a clear indication of the systemic barriers that women face in accessing leadership positions .
GENDER-BASED ISSUES 5 . GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE Violent acts perpetrated on women are based on the perception that they are weak and that men have propriety or ownership rights over them.
