Definition and Importance • International law is a set of fundamental rules recognized by nations. • It maintains peace, justice, and cooperation among states. • It guides nations when treaties or customs are unclear.
Main Principles (Part 1) 1. Sovereign Equality – All states are equal under international law. Example: Each country has the same legal standing in the UN. 2. Non-Intervention – No country should interfere in another’s internal affairs. Example: Respecting another nation’s elections or policies. 3. Prohibition of Force – Countries cannot use force except in self-defense or with UN approval.
Main Principles (Part 2) 4. Peaceful Settlement of Disputes – Use negotiation, mediation, or arbitration to solve conflicts. 5.
