Generic Imiquimod Cream (Imiquad) is used to
treat certain diseases of the skin, including minor
skin cancers called superficial basal cell
carcinoma when surgery would not be an
appropriate treatment as well as external genital
and perianal warts/condyloma acuminata in
patients 12 years old or older.

Active Ingredient

The active ingredient contained in Imiquad
Cream is Imiquimod 5%. Each 250 mg
single sachet contains 12.5 mg of the active
ingredient Imiquimod.

Generic Imiquimod Cream (Imiquad) is
used to treat solar keratosis (SK) on the
face and scalp, superficial basal cell
carcinoma (sBCC), and genital/perianal
warts.
Imiquimod is an immune response
modifier which activates immune cells in
the body. The immune cells then
proceed to kill and remove the virus-
infected or cancer cells.

Generic Imiquimod Cream (Imiquad)
have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. below 25°C (77°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Warnings

Use of Generic Imiquimod Cream
(Imiquad) may be have to be stopped
in the case of occurence of Intense local
inflammatory reactions (e.g., skin
weeping, erosion).
Severe local inflammatory reactions of
the female external genitalia can lead to
severe vulvar swelling. Severe vulvar
swelling can lead to urinary retention;
dosing should be interrupted or
discontinued.

➢Actinic Keratosis: Generic Imiquimod Cream
(Imiquad) should be applied 2 times per week
for a full 16 weeks to a defined treatment area
on the face or scalp (but not both concurrently).
The treatment area is defined as one
continuous area of approximately 25 sq cm.
The dosage of Imiquad Cream (Generic
Imiquimod Cream) is given below:

➢ Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma: Generic
Imiquimod Cream should be applied five times
per week for a full 6 weeks to a biopsy-
confirmed superficial basal cell carcinoma.
➢ Imiquad Cream should be applied prior to
normal sleeping hours and left on the skin for
approximately 8 hours, after which time the
cream should be removed by washing the area
with mild soap and water.

Contraindications
Imiquad Cream is contraindicated in patients
with a hypersensitivity to Imiquimod or any
other component of this medication.

➢ The most frequent Generic Imiquimod side
efffects with an incidence rate of 1% or more are
local application site reactions which include
tenderness, itching, pain and burning sensation
at the treatment site.
➢Local skin reactions (including erythema,
erosion, oedema, vesicles, scabbing,
desquamation/flaking and induration) are seen
in conjunction with decreasing wart size and are
believed to be secondary to the pharmacological
activity of Imiquimod.

Topical overdosing of Generic Imiquimod
5% Cream could result in an increased
incidence of severe local skin reactions and
may increase the risk for systemic
reactions.
The most serious adverse effect reported
following multiple oral Imiquimod doses of
200 mg or more (equivalent to imiquimod
content of more than 16 sachets) was
hypotension, which resolved following oral
or intravenous fluid administration.

Imiquimod Cream (Imiquad) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category C.
Controlled studies conducted in animals
demonstrated no effects on growth, fertility,
reproduction or post-natal development
were noted at doses up to 6 mg/kg/day.
There are no adequate and well-controlled
studies conducted in pregnant women.
Generic Imiquimod cream should be used
during pregnancy only if the potential
benefit justifies the potential risk to the
fetus.
