2. we were told to find 12 bands that will be similar to our ideas of our band and its aesthetic. We each chose three bands ,Researching some bands I came across yowl, dubinski and shockpower these bands illustrate some positive images that we would like to use and develop, in our own way to make our music video engaging and intriguing to others watching. Music videos don’t have to have a narrative just have to look interesting as that way more people would listen to the song as its part of the publicity.

3. YOWL

4. This is the first shot you see of their music video, i like this as it creates a narrative for the music video . the use of yellow creates this old camera quality and high saturation making it intriguing for the Yowl music video- Virile crocodile sweat. In our music video we want to use lots of different colored lighting so looking at this is gave me a good idea of what it could look like.

5. These shots are darker, but with the saturation still high, these shots are impactful as we are able to see the whole band and close ups of the instruments that we are hoping to do in ours. It is essential we show these wide shots as a band needs to demonstrate its stage presence and the type of audience they attract, the more shots of the whole band the more likely people will want to come watch them in shows as of the whole bands energy and impact on people including the music that comes with the performance. The look and style of the band is also very important when shooting a music video.

6. this is towards the start of the video, these shots introduce the song being called virile crocodile sweat and behind the title of the song we have the image of what looks like the singer of the band, this is important as it shows the whole main look of the band with just the singer, the singer is the main person off the band so whatever vibe the singer gives off and looks Aswell the band adapts to fit in with the singer. With our band we were able to find people that all have similar looks which will really make our band look realistic and intriguing for our specific audience.

7. In these screenshots from their music video, i picked these as they showed the difference in their shots, being close up shots of the singer and instruments being played, using levels of the camera which is extremely important as it shows contrast, this will be used in our video as it create a more intimate video, when shotting a low angle it feels like your apart of the video when watching it. The blurry effect that this music video has is really affective, because it makes you really concentrate on whats happing, as they have different angles and different shots that make no sense to the band , it makes you think therefore look deeper into the lives of this band.

8. 9/28/24 8 This screenshot I took stood out as it is an idea me and my group had about having a video just in the studio of them “practicing” so this gave me an idea of the set up of a studio for ours.

9. 9/28/24 9 This is an example of a random shot that makes no sense in this video, but yet again makes you think and also could use this shot as describing their personality's and maybe there other hobbies , maybe having some athleticism about them.

10. DUBINSKI

11. This is the opening shot for their music video beyond me, using a bird eyes shot it establishes the set and where they are giving us context. A birds eye view shot is something we are also looking into for our music video, maybe off above the band room as they play, or out in the town from up above, although it’s a difficult shot , especially in this video as it seems they have used a drone to get the picture if them all on haybales playing their instruments or singing.

12. 9/28/24 12 Here again we see a love angle , creates this picture of a warm nice day as it is blue skys , also feeling like we are sitting down or below them as they are on stage. The use of the haybales is clever As it creates a mini stage and raises Them up instead of just playing on the flat field , it shows status and confidence of presents.

13. 9/28/24 13 We are wanting to do some shots in a car as it create this idea of musicians on stage but also the idea of there every day journey and life. It also gives it contrast from performing, bringing us into there personal lives.

14. 9/28/24 14 I like this shot as it shows some contrast and some comedic feel to the video and shows off there personality The camera in these shot shows lots of wide shots and close ups of them playing there instruments and laughing. It also shows slow motion when they jump into the water.

15. 9/28/24 15 The use of the water is intriguing as Its not normal to be jumping into a river with clothes on and instruments . Because of this I didn’t get bored watching as it switched up from them just playing in the field, this is important as we want someone to watch the video till the end and not get bored half way through.

16. 9/28/24 16 Ending how it started with a birds eye view shot of them on the field, this tells us it is ending , which means We need to think of a good ending to our music video, some sort of cyclical structure.

17. Shockpower - feverdream 9/28/24 17

These are the first shots you see in their music video called feverdreatm , most of these shots are of nature therefore illustrates the name that is feverdream , the use of the video been speed up gives this sense of it being dream like and the effect stood out to me as its something we could use with our music video

20. 9/28/24 20 The use of these shots show the definition of the flower especially in the photo on the left , the lighting brings out the flower from the background, which we want to do in our music video, bringing the singer the focus.

21. 9/28/24 21 These photos show contrast, the woods shot is actually slower as the camera pans from left to right. The sea is a wide shot that stays still,giving us context on where we are.

Here are some screenshots taken from shockpower Instagram, in this screenshot you can see the majority of there Instagram aesthetic , as a band it is important to create this to attract your fan base, having highlights on you Instagram about performances, merch, upcoming events etc In the bio of this band it clarifies what there Instagram is about and for them they chose musician/band. It lets people know what there use of Instagram is. Instagram has things called reels , that are videos you can upload onto Instagram, and tend to create more attraction to your Instagram platform This is a close up of one of their posts, this is a promotional post about their music dropping and where you can find their music .

This is a photo of dubinski personal life,this is important as then you get a sense of their personality They post stories for attraction about their music and music video posting links that you are able to click on to view the videos. This is a post that shows when they will be performing and where , this is so people can book tickets or just show up to support. They also have highlights That show links to listen to their music, and sharing there achievements with there socials.

27. 9/28/24 27 Having a photo of there band in every day clothes, gives this feel of a community, a place where people and fans can relate so it is important to show there personality's A photo of them on stage, shows their stage presents and the niece look for stage, this helps create their genre convention and look of the band Yowl, posts storys about merch , this is a way of income not yet from people paying to see them but buying their t-shirts to support them. This is a poster that they posted on there Instagram about upcoming events

28. Promotional campaigns have in common Looking at these bands, I can see that they use promotional campaigns, Such as Instagram, Spotify, YouTube for music video, apple music and so on, these are important to Get the music out there and there genre of style and music. These bands are creative and original and it is was we want to Put into ours, with rebellion energy and a grungy feel aswell . These bands all have a niece, that helps with their music and its fanbase to share there bands aesthetic with . Our genre Convention is rock boy band that gives this grungy feel, we will act On this by creating an Instagram and creating posts that fit this aesthetic that we desire .
