Architectural Style of Taj Mahal The Taj Mahal is considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, blending Persian, Islamic, Ottoman Turkish and Indian architectural styles. Shapes Used in Taj Mahal Circles The main dome is a perfect hemisphere, symbolizing eternity. Smaller Domes (chhatris) also feature circular bases. Square The main platform and the layout of the garden follow a square-based charbagh (four-part garden) design. The mausoleum itself is situated on a raised platform. Octagon The main chamber of the Taj Mahal is an octagon, allowing entrance from all sides, symbolising universality. The number 8 has spiritual and geometric significance in Islamic Architecture. Arches The facade includes large pointed arches, using the geometry of parabolas and ellipses for strength and aesthetics.

Symmetry in Taj Mahal Symmetry is one of the most defining features of the Taj Mahal and contributes to its sense of order, harmony, and perfection . Symmetry: The Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of bilateral symmetry. Its layout is based on a central axis that runs through the main dome, garden, reflecting pool, and gateway. Every element on the left side is mirrored on the right, creating perfect balance and harmony. The Taj Mahal achieves architectural perfection through use of symmetry. This harmony in design makes it not only beautiful but also spiritually meaningful, reflecting both mathematical precision and aesthetic grace .

Significance of Angles in Taj Mahal Angles play a crucial role in achieving the structural stability , aesthetic appeal , and spiritual symbolism of the Taj Mahal. The Mughal architects used precise angular measurements to enhance symmetry, proportion, and flow of the design. Here are some examples of this: The angle of the dome's curvature is precisely calculated to ensure a smooth transition from the square base to the circular top, creating a balanced and stable structure.
