CONSTRUCTION USING GLASS FIBER REINFORCED GYPSUM PANEL Presented by FATHIMA RINSHA ROLL NO. 7 CE S5 2201010650

CONTENTS INTRODUCTION CHALLENGES OF GFRG PANEL APPLICATION PROPERTIES OF GFRG PANEL MANUFACTURING PROCESS ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDING COMPARISON OF GFRG PANEL VS CONVENTIONAL BUILDING LIMITATION OF USE CONCLUSION

INTRODUCTION GFRG stands for Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum, a composite material used in construction. These panels are lightweight yet strong, making them ideal for various building applications. GFRG panels are increasingly popular due to their sustainability and energy efficiency.

WHAT IS GFRG PANEL? • GFRG Wall also called Rapidwall is an energy efficient green building material • used non. Load bearing & load bearing building • Manufactured using Phosphogypsum • pre-fabricated walling panel. This is suitable for a mass scale building construction was originally developed and used since 1990 in Australia. • used for both internal and external walls. • suitable for hybrid Construction in multi-storey buildings. • manufactured at FACT-RCF Building Products Limited (FRBL), Kochi, Kerala

CHALLENGES OF GFRG CONSTRUCTION Availability of materials skilled labours Proper training is necessary to ensure that workers are familiar with GFRG panel installation. Weather conditions

APPLICATION OF GFRG PANEL GFRG panels can be used for walls, roofs, and facades in residential and commercial buildings. They are also effective in creating modular structures and prefabricated housing solutions. The use of GFRG panels extends to interior applications, such as partitions and decorative elements.

APPLICATION OF GFRG PANEL • As high capacity vertical and shear load bearing structural walling in multi- storey construction. • As partition infill wall in multi-storey framed building: Panel may also be filled suitably. • As Horizontal floor/ roof slabs with reinforced concrete micro beams. • As pitched (sloped) roofing. • As cladding for industrial building. • As compound wall

PROPERTIES OF GFRG PANEL • Compressive strength of panel with concrete infill 180 kg/cm2 • Flexural strength of panel with concrete infill 20.80kg/cm2 • Tensile strength 28.8kN/m • Water absorption <2% • Fire resistance • Free from corrosion • Rot and termite proof • Light in weight • Earthquake resistant

MANUFACTURING PROCESS STAGE-1 • A paste of calcined gypsum and other chemical additives is poured on the specially designed table. • Glass fibres are then spread evenly by means of screeding and rolling process.

STAGE 2: • Special aluminium plugs are inserted on top of finished first layer with 20mm gaps in between to form hollow cavities. • 2nd pouring of mix is done along with glass fibre with tamping to form ribs of the hollow panel. • Process of 1st Stage is repeated to complete.

STAGE 3: • After 25 minutes plugs are taken out, casting table is rotated and panel is then taken out for drying using special fork lift. • Then drying is done for 90 minutes in a drier chamber in which hot air is circulated. • After that panel is cut into its dimensions are per the customers design.

ADVANTAGES: • GFRG panels offer rapid installation, reducing overall construction time significantly. • The flexibility in design allows for various architectural styles and finishes to be achieved. • Their fire resistance and thermal insulation properties enhance safety and energy savings.

DISADVANTAGES: • Skilled labours needed • should be handled with care while transportation and erection • Need specific machinery for cutting GFRG panels at site • Cannot be used for walls with circular or higher curvature

CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDING USING GFRG PANEL

COMPARISON OF GFRG PANEL VS CONVENTIONAL BUILDING(for 1500 sq.ft)

LIMITATION OF USE • Can not be used for wall with circular or higher curvature. • Clear span shall be limited to 5m for residential buildings, for non residential buildings, the span shall be limited to as specified in Designs Manual .

CONCLUSION • Providing affordable housing is a challenge for developing like India. • India have an shortage of nearly 17.6 million houses. • There is also a challenge of disposal of industrial waste like gypsum. • India having an nearly 2000 tones/day of gypsum waste generations. • The work carried in concluded that there is saving in cost of construction up to 20-30% • GFRG panel housing provide an adequate solutions to the above problems
