Minimize environmental risks such as dust emissions, leachate, and runoff.
Meet regulatory compliance for occupational health and environmental standards.
Traditional open coal piles or silos often face challenges like corrosion, dust pollution, and structural
instability under harsh weather or chemical exposure. GFS coal storage tanks offer a modern,
engineered alternative with enhanced protection and durability.
What Are Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) Coal Storage Tanks?
Glass-Fused-to-Steel tanks are industrial storage tanks made by fusing a superior glass enamel
coating onto steel panels at high temperatures ranging between 820°C and 930°C. The glass coating
chemically bonds with the steel surface, forming a hard, impervious, and corrosion-resistant barrier.
This fusion melds the mechanical strength and flexibility of steel with the chemical resistance and
wear resistance of glass, resulting in storage tanks that can withstand the physical and chemical
challenges typical of coal storage.
Key Technical Features of GFS Coal Storage Tanks
Exceptional Corrosion and Abrasion Resistance: Coal storage environments often generate
acidic runoff and abrasive dust. GFS tanks’ vitrified glass coatings resist chemical attack and
wear far beyond traditional tanks.
Structural Strength and Flexibility: The steel foundation allows tanks to withstand heavy
loads, thermal expansion, and environmental pressures such as wind or seismic events.
Gas and Liquid Impermeability: GFS tanks create virtually impermeable containment,
minimizing water ingress and dust leakage, which protects stored coal and improves
environmental compliance.
Modular, Bolted Panel Construction: Panels are factory-coated and then bolted together
onsite, enabling cost-efficient transport, assembly, expansion, or relocation.
Long Service Life: Service expectancy often exceeds 30 years, with minimal maintenance
requirements.
Wide Range of Sizes and Configurations: Tanks can be custom-designed for specific project
needs, from small silos to massive coal storage volumes.
Certified Quality: Center Enamel’s GFS tanks conform to international standards such as ISO
9001, ASTM, AWWA D103, OSHA, NSF, and more, ensuring global compliance.
