Giant 15 Mountain Peaks of India

The Mountain peaks of India are set as jewels in the crown on Indian Map. These dazzling mountains are pride of India. Most of these Highest Mountain Peaks are located in the Northern and Northeastern part of India. Majority of the mountain peaks listed below are part of Himalayan Range and Karakoram Range stretched between three countries namely India, China and Pakistan. Twelve out of hundred highest mountain peaks of the world are located in India and on Indian boundaries.

Many of these mountain peaks are the popular trekking destinations for people from all over the world. Every year thousands of trekkers from around the world participate in various exploration and expedition projects. They are attracting people since ages. The northern peaks of India are the most favorite destination for hiking, trekking and climbing. TheliteraltranslationofKanchenjungameans“TheFiveTreasuresof
Snows”andthesetreasuresaregold,silver,gems,grain,andholy
books.Kangchenjungaisagroupoffivepeaksoutofwhichfourare
over8450ft.TheKanchenjungaisthehighestmountainpeakinIndia
andranked3rdhighestsummitintheworld.Thehighestmountain
KangchenjungaislocatedattheborderofIndiaandNepalinthe
greatHimalayasrange,Sikkim.

NandadeviisthesecondhighestmountainpeakinIndia.Thisisthe
highestpeak(entirely)inthecountry,asKanchenjungaliesonthe
borderareasofIndiaandNepal.Itwasthehighestknownmountainin
theworlduntil1808whenwesternsurveyorsdiscoveredDhaulagiri.The
mountainstandstallatanelevationof7824meters(25663ft).Nanda
DeviissituatedintheGarhwalHimalayasregioninthestateof
Uttarakhand.NandaDeviisthehighestsummitinthetwomassif
anotheroneiscalledasNandaDeviEast,locatedattheeasternpart.

GarhwalregionintheChamoliDistrictofUttarakhand.Kametissecond
highestmountainsummitofGarhwalHimalayasandthirdhighest
mountainpeakofIndiawithanelevationof7,756m.Kametmountain
peakissurroundedbythreemajorneighboringpeaksandliesvery
closetheTibet.Itissituatednorthofthemainrangeandismore
remoteandthereforelessaccessiblethansomeHimalayanpeaks.
However,thestandardrouteoffersarelativelystraightforwardascent,
startingfromtheEastKametGlacierandascendingviaMeade'sCol,
thencontinuingonupthenortheastedgeofthenorthface.

Muztagh,attheheadoftheNorthShukpaKunchangGlacier,a
majorglacier,whichdrainstheeasternslopesofthegroup.The
mountainstandsatanelevationof7,672m(25,171ft)andis
rankedatno.35inworld’shighestmountainpeaks.Saltoro
MountainsaresituatedatthecenterofgreatKarakoramandvery
neartothelongestglaciersintheworld,theSiachenGlacier.

remoteRimoMuztaghrange,whichisasubrangeoftheKarakoram

partofKarakoramRange.Themountainstandsatanelevationof
7,516meters(24,659feet)andisranked48thinworld’shighest
peaksItislocatedabout30kmeast-southeastofthesnoutofthe

thehighestpeakamongthemwith7,385m(24,229ft).TheRimo
MuztaghisborderedonthenorthbytheRimoGlacier,whichdrainsto
theeastintotheupperShyokRiver,andbytheTeramShehrGlacier,a
tributaryoftheSiachenGlacier.TothenortheastlietheNortheast
RimoMountainsandtheKarakoramPass,apassononeofthe
historicallyimportanttraderoutesintoCentralAsia.Tothenorthlies
theeasternendoftheSiachenMuztagh.
