GLOBAL BOILING Aleena Elizabeth Cyril
Term was coined by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres , in July 2023 after scientists confirmed that July was on track to be the world's hottest month on record. Refers to increasingly extreme heat waves and other weather events that are becoming more common due to climate change Aleena Elizabeth Cyril
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) According to the WMO and the EU’s Copernicus Earth observation programme , July 2023 has shattered historic records to be the hottest month ever stoked by the burning of fossil fuels and spurring violent weather. The WMO secretary general, Petteri Taalas , said: “The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is more urgent than ever before. Climate action is not a luxury but a must.”
“All this is entirely consistent with predictions and repeated warnings. The only surprise is the speed of the change. Climate change is here, it is terrifying, and it is just the beginning. The era of global warming has ended; the era of global boiling has arrived.” “Humanity is in the hot seat,” “For vast parts of North America, Asia, Africa and Europe, it is a cruel summer. For the entire planet, it is a disaster. And for scientists, it is unequivocal – humans are to blame.” Antonio Guterres Aleena Elizabeth Cyril
