4 EVAPORATION EVAPORATION IS A TECHNIQUE THAT IS USED IN SEPARATING A MIXTURE, USUALLY A SOLUTION AND A SOLUBLE SOLID. IN THIS METHOD, THE SOLUTION IS HEATED UNTIL THE IT EVAPORATES WHERE IT TURNS INTO A GAS AND MOSTLY LEAVES BEHIND THE SOLID RESIDUE.

5 EVAPORATION EXAMPLE WHEN SEAWATER IS ALLOWED TO STAND IN SHALLOW PITS, WATER GETS HEATED BY SUNLIGHT AND SLOWLY TURNS INTO WATER VAPOUR, THROUGH EVAPORATION . IN A FEW DAYS, THE WATER EVAPORATES COMPLETELY LEAVING BEHIND THE SOLID SALTS.

6 SEDIMENTATION SEDIMENTATION IS A PROCESS OF SETTLING DOWN OF THE HEAVIER PARTICLES PRESENT IN A LIQUID MIXTURE . FOR EXAMPLE , IN A MIXTURE OF SAND AND WATER, SAND SETTLES DOWN AT THE BOTTOM. THIS IS SEDIMENTATION.

7 DECANTATION DECANTATION IS THE PROCESS OF SEPARATION OF LIQUID FROM SOLID AND OTHER NON-MIXING LIQUIDS, BY REMOVING THE LIQUID LAYER AT THE TOP FROM THE LAYER OF SOLID OR LIQUID BELOW . THE PROCESS CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY TILTING THE MIXTURE AFTER POURING OUT THE TOP LAYER.

8 FILTRATION IT IS THE PROCESS IN WHICH SOLID PARTICLES IN A LIQUID OR GASEOUS FLUID ARE REMOVED BY THE USE OF A FILTER MEDIUM THAT PERMITS THE FLUID TO PASS THROUGH BUT RETAINS THE SOLID PARTICLES.

9 FILTRATION EXAMPLE THE MOST COMMON EXAMPLE IS MAKING TEA. WHILE PREPARING TEA, A FILTER OR A SIEVE IS USED TO SEPARATE TEA LEAVES FROM THE WATER .
