IDENTITY

Hello!
My name is Amanda Sanchez and I am a freelance
graphic designer in Sacramento, CA. I run Collected
& Made, a design
studio, online boutique and lifestyle
blog. I received my Associates of Science and Certificate
of Achievement in Graphic Design from Sierra College
and I completed a Communications Internship at Food
Literacy Center. During my Internship, I worked on
Sponsorship Outreach, marketing for the Sacramento
Food Film Festival and creating recipe templates for
Food Literacy Center’s programs.
I continue to volunteer on the Sacramento Food Film
Festival Planning Committee and I am a member of
the Sacramento Ad Club. Last year, I volunteered at Free
Think, an event that pairs volunteer designers and copy-
writers with local nonprofits to create marketing solutions
for the organizations. I will continue to volunteer at this
event in the future.
Graphic design is my passion and I work with small
businesses and nonprofits to create unique solutions
for their design needs. My background in writing allows
me to offer a broad range of services, including design-
ing and editing newsletters.
When I am not designing for clients, I love working on
personal projects for myself and family and friends, and
learning new skills.

As a mother, I understand how amazing, wonderful
and yet extremely difficult it can be to parent. My experi-
ence inspired me to create this poster that played on the
idea of paper dolls.
There is a stigma behind parents asking for help and I
wanted to shine a light on the mental health of parents.
I developed thumbnails, presented a concept proposal,
developed sketches, created my poster, presented to
the client and made the requested edits.
The concept of my poster was the power we have to mini-
mize climate change. Doing something as small as starting
your own garden can reduce your carbon footprint as you
will not rely as much on the production, shipping and deliv-
ery of fruit, vegetables and herbs to stores. If you do have
room for your garden at home, you can start in containers.
That was the purpose of this poster - to urge people to start
their garden any way they can.

ASSIGNMENT: Design a double-sided folded brochure
for Wag Dog Day Camp.
DETAILS:
Double-sided folded brochure requiring:
Use of column, modular or hierarchical grid structure
Provided copy
Quotes from at least two different printers
Graphics
Supplemental website mock-up
My concept was to make it appeal to millennials who
work from home and also love adventures. They want
a place to take their dogs when they are working and
don’t have time to explore with them.
I chose a gate fold and used orange as my splash of color,
adding to the outdoors vibe. I designed the logo and the dog
illustration and also used stock photos.

ASSIGNMENT: Design a tri-fold marketing brochure
DETAILS:
I worked on this brochure as part of a team for
Free Think, a local event hosted by the Sac Ad Club, that
pairs volunteer designers, copywriters and marketers with
nonprofits that need help with marketing and design.
Our client was Shandra Thomas, who runs Life on Trak,
a nonprofit that works with low-income families to help
them become financially stable. She needed a logo design,
a brochure and a website mock-up.

In a 16-hour time-frame over two days, we designed
a logo and located stock images that fit the project.
She wanted a tri-fold brochure that she could take to
networking events and to hand out to her clients. She
wanted to use her main colors of green, white and blue,
with green being the most prominent. My job was to
design a brochure with that relayed the information in
a minimal design that was readable and easily digested.

ASSIGNMENT: Design a 16-page publication, plus a
four-page cover
DETAILS:
I designed this as a final project in my last
design class at Sierra College. The topic was up to
us, but it could not be a portfolio. I am fascinated by
typeface designers, and as a female graphic designer
in what is still considered to be a male-dominated
field, I focused on female typeface designers.
This was one of the most important projects on which I
have worked. So important, in fact, that I continued work-
ing on it after the semester was over.
I contacted each designer, asked for a high-resolution
image to use and then scoured their websites and any
reference to them to write a blurb about them. Every
designer featured was thrilled about the project and many
even sent me free fonts, or samples of their fonts to use
for the project.
I published the magazine on issuu.com and have had
several copies printed, so the design has been modified
for both print and web use.
An excerpt is included in the following pages. A full
version is offered a free online resource to anyone
who is interested.

Liron Lavi Turkenich is an Israeli Type and Graphic designer, researcher
and speaker. She was born and raised in Haifa, a mixed Jewish and Arab city,
and graduated from the Shenkar College of Design in Tel Aviv with a B.Des
in Visual Communications. She continued her studies at the University of
Reading, where she received her Masters of Arts in Typeface Design.
It was the road signs in her hometown that inspired her to create Ara-
vrit, a stylized writing system that merges the Hebrew and Arabic languages,
and has been labeled the “typography of peace.” According to the Israeli Times,
she realized that she ignored the Arabic lettering on the road signs that she and
most Israeli Jews cannot read, so she set out to change that. Starting six years
ago, she researched the work of French ophthalmologist Louis Emile Javal, who
in the late 19th century discovered that people can read using only the top half
of Latin letters. Liron experimented and realized that the same was true for
Arabic letters, and the opposite was true for Hebrew letters. With this in mind,
she combined the 22 letters in Hebrew and the 29 letters in Arabic to create
Aravrit, an alphabet with 638 characters that she is still developing.
Aravrit has been featured in several publications, YouTube channels and it
even has a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/aravrit). Liron has
spoken about typeface design at TYPO Talks, TypeCon and the Tel Aviv
chapter of Creative Mornings. She also participates in exhibits and gives
workshops, contributes to alphabettes.org and is a senior level events coordi-
nator at ATypI, organizing the yearly conference and its routine activities.

Veronika Burian met her partner José Scaglione while they were completing their Master’s in
Type Design at the University of Reading. Together, they run an independent, cosmopolitan
virtual type foundry, named TypeTogether. The foundry was established in 2006, while José was
living in Rosario/Argentina (where he still resides) and Veronika was living in Boulder, Colorado.
In 2010, TypeTogether was incorporated as a limited company in the Czech Republic, but there
is not a physical office and their whole team is spread across the globe. They focus on creating
text typography for intensive digital and print editorial use, and have been recognized in several interna-
tional competitions, such as Granshan, TDC, and ED-Awards.
Veronika and José also work with typeface design students as part of their Typeface Publishing
Incentive Program. Established in 2014, the program offers support and guidance to selected projects,
and the aim is to allow exceptional projects started during a course of study to be finalized and published
commercially at the end of the course. Any students enrolled in a postgraduate typeface design course
can apply through the TypeTogether website.
She also lectures and teaches workshops at international conferences and universities. In 2004,
her font Maiola received the TDC Certificate of Excellence in Type Design, amongst other awards.
She is also a contributor for alphabettes.org, showcase for research and work on lettering, type
design and typography by women.
When Marina Chaccur first got into design college, she planned on designing chairs for the rest of her life. But then she discovered her love for graphic design, which turned into a love for typography, callig- raphy, type design, and most importantly to her, lettering. She received a degree in Design from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, an MA in Graphic Design from the London College of Communication and an MA in Type and Media from the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten. She has taught at a few of the major Design Bachelor’s programs in Sao Paulo and is continuously involved in conferences, lectures, work- shops and exhibitions worldwide, and also served as board member for the Association Typographique Internationale from 2010 - 2016. She is currently living in The Hague, working for Type Network and her
own independent studio, Marina Chaccur Designs.

Started this design in my web design class a few years
ago. Created the sketches, color palette, site-map, mock-
ups and then coded the final design in Dreamweaver.

PROJECT: Design landing page for online course called
StartUP BusinessLaw Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs
DETAILS: My client wanted a landing page to promote
her online course, StartUP BusinessLaw Bootcamp for
Entrepreneurs. She wanted this to be a hub where
prospective students could learn more about the class,
sign up for her e-mail campaign and enroll.
She wanted a minimal design for her one-page site,
with staggered information boxes, video, pops of color
and fun graphic elements. I sketched several designs
and mock-up before I brought it to life on Wix , her
platform of choice.
She had a lot of copy to add after the first draft of the live
site was up, and I designed that as well. I also worked on the
Teachable school and integrated her e-mail campaign and
school with the website.

Identity
PROJECT: Create an Identity System for a vintage
rental business
DETAILS: My client contacted me about designing a logo
for her new vintage rental and event styling business. While
we were working on her logo design, she decided she also
needed business cards so I designed those as well. Next, we
will work on a website and social media marketing. I also
designed a style guide for this and future projects.

ASSIGNMENT: Create an Identity System for a new
business venture
DETAILS:
My client initially wanted a landing page
designed for her online course, StartUP BusinessLaw
Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs. However, after she discov-
ered that I could design logos and marketing materials,
she asked me to design a logo for her new business venture
- AppreniLabs. She knew what she wanted for her logo
and I illustrated the owl and infinity symbol and helped
her decide on the colors and typography.
I designed an Identity System for her that included a
logo, business cards, custom arrows and a graphic to
use on her social media channels.
I also set up and maintained her e-mail campaign
through ConvertKit and designed her online course
through Teachable. We will continue working on her
ConvertKit and Teachable accounts, and will also work on
future social media marketing projects.

TOWER
BRIDGE
ILLUSTRATION
ASSIGNMENT: Create an illustration making shapes using
the shape builder and pathfinder tools in Adobe Illustrator.
DETAILS: The Inspiration and concept came from the Tower
Bridge, which I saw every morning and night when I grew up in
West Sacramento.
I used an image of the bridge as inspiration and built the bridge
with the shape-builder and pathfinder tools.
I also created the pattern in the background to give the effect
of water under the bridge, an ode to the Sacramento River.

PROJECT: Art submission for Nasty Art: A Feminist
Exhibit, benefiting the Womens Health Specialists
DETAILS: I created this in response to the proposed
laws that could take control over a woman’s reproductive
system out of her hands. I played on the theory that Georgia
O’Keeffe’s painting of flowers represent female reproduc-
tive organs. To get this effect, I took a picture of a silk flower
in my daughter’s birdcage, and used image trace to turn the
image into an illustration
