Women And The Etruscan Culture
Us Etruscans are well known for our grand funerary practices, which involve creating enormous multi
chambered tombs, especially for us wealthy families, with some exceeding 130 feet in diameter and
reaching nearly 50 feet in height . Banditaccia necropolis, the Greek word that translates to the city of
the dead 1, started becoming an orderly arrangement of subterranean tombs along a system of streets
in the seventh century and now, in the fifth century, or the Archaic Period, our tombs are continuing to
expand in great size, taking up more than 100 acres of land!
While Greek women are expected to remain at home, Etruscan women are encouraged to attend
banquets and recline with their husbands on the common couch, regularly attend sporting events with
their man, and can legally own our own property1. To be honest, the independence and freedom that
women enjoy here horrify and threaten the Greeks. Being a female in the Etruscan culture, I am proud
to be an Etruscan because of the fact that we are known for how our culture treats women. Since our
culture does not leave much documentation, my tomb must be used to provide an awareness and
understanding of how we live our lives. My husband was able to achieve hegemony through the main
activities of agriculture and metallurgy , eventually becoming known as a dignitary, making us a well
known family and an important part of the aristocracy in the Etruscan society. The Banditaccia
necropolis in Cerveteri is where my noble family

War Of 1812 Facts
A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left
handed slapdash manner on both sides. This war probably America s most unknown war. Although the
war has been written and talked a lot about, most Americans are only slightly aware of why we fought
and who our enemy was. Just take a second and realize that the year of 1812 was not just another year,
it was the year one country was so angry and enraged, they declared war on another country.
Considering the War of 1812 was mainly a chaos of naval activity, imagine cannons blasting into ships
shredding it into pieces! Screaming and yelling to position their ships in the most perfect way so they
can get the most devastating blow to the other wooden block of gunpowder and explosives. Tired,
worn down sailors getting captured and taken under imprisonment, all of this nonsense because a
country doesn t get their way. The War of 1812 was between Great Britain, North American Colonies,
Native Americans and the U.S. The war started in the old timey days where they rode their horses and
had to fight off indians, or scavengers just to get to a town. This war ... Show more content on

Was it just Naval conflicts between two countries? Was it just ground war between indians and army
men with disciplined war techniques, or was is just two countries in a disagreement about another
country trading with them? The war of 1812 was about all of these questions that you might ask. What
side do you take? Do you take the U.S side that was just trying to be neutral and help both countries,
or do you take the British side, the countries that wanted all the advantage on France just to win a
country. Should the moral of the War of 1812 be that just let people be and choose your own battles, or
should it be take no mercy and and rise to the top? Just take a second and let these questions sink in
your head. Have you found your answer to what you think of the War of

The Colorado River
We usually think of the Grand Canyon in terms of its rocks, and the story and history that they can
contain, spanning as far back as half of the Earth s age. There is more to this canyon though than the
rocks, as it is still active as a forever changing landform, due to the power of running water. The
Colorado River has carved out the Grand Canyon in just the last nine million years. In fact, the river
itself carries about half a million tons of sediment through the Grand Canyon each and every day.
There are a number of different river types that will be talked about, and how exactly they have
effected their environment and made changes in the landscapes. Valleys were once thought to have
formed independently as water flowed down a channel within the area of the valley. What is now
known, is that all rivers (located within valleys), combined with the power of mass wasting, have
formed the valleys by picking up sediment from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A delta is when the water is calm from this loss of velocity, and the sediment can build up creating
multiple dams and small river channels, in which the water and sediment can switch between which
river channel has a greater flow. This switch can vary though, as these stronger flows on different
branch channels can last for long periods of time. Rivers have had enormous amounts of destructive
power. They have caused mass floods that have damaged towns and cities surrounding them, and have
also caused damage to families, taking lives. With all of this damage that has been caused by rivers
though, they have given back, with thriving life and people surrounding them for their beauty and
resources. One of the most important things they have done is carve out landscapes, which create
legacies to their existence. In fact, these rivers are the largest formers of the Earth s modern landscape

1880-1920 s
Professors Bergland s main point about the 1880 1920 s was the fascination and exploration with
nature and death. In the poems that Professor Bergland showed us, Emily Dickson wrote about nature
and her thoughts on how nature affected the world and science. My understand of the period from
1880 to1920 was that education was not mandatory for females. When females attended college, they
were taught science and math because it did not have a role in society. Males on the other hand
learned literature and politics because they would go on to graduate and have an active and high role
in society. At the college Dickson attended, Mount Holyoke, religion was heavily stressed. Not many
females finished college, majority dropped out before entering

Essay On Villa Lante
INTRODUCTION
Located in central Italy, in Viterbo, Villa Lante is a true example of a Renaissance Italian garden. It is
considered to be one of the finest illustration of a mannerist garden design since its elements style are
exaggerated in their art.
HISTORY
The construction of the site started in 1566 by two bishop men who followed each other; the first one
was Gian Francesco Gambarra, and the second was Alessandro Montalto. The combination of
Gambarra, a mature man, and Montalto, an adolescent, would produce one of the strangest Italian villa
and park. This garden was at first a preserved hunting park, but after realizing the Cardinal s dream, it
got converted into magnificent landscaped grounds that we find today. This work was mainly
attributed to one of the great architects of the 16th century, Giacomo Barozzi, known as Il Vignola .
Thomas Chiruchi was also a main part of the site s magnificent creation since he was the hydraulic
engineer that adjusted all the waterworks to perfection. In fact, as we ll see later on, water is the main
feature that will bring together all the components of the garden in a poetic harmony.
MEANING OF THE GARDEN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These loggias provide a place for relaxation. Their sides frame the large Fountain of the Deluge that
terminates the main axis of the garden. They are covered by a roughened texture to harmonize with the
natural rough rock of the Fountain. Plus, water conduits set in their eaves project jets of water to
complete a visual ensemble known as the theatre of the waters . These spouts may sprinkle visitor by
surprise. The Fountain of the Flood forms a visual conclusion to the whole. In a more general sense, it
provides an underlying theme that is developed throughout the entire garden. The leitmotiv here is
Water, coming out in its natural state from a rocky slope. Symbolically speaking, all fountains depend

How Deflation Impacted The Commodity Market And The Labor...
Introduction Since the global economic crisis happened in 2008, it had a severe impact on the
worldwide economy. Many countries experienced a great recession for a long time period, which
made hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs, large number of firms failed to pay back the
loan and many investment banks went to bankruptcy. Recently, we found that many countries hadn t
yet come out from the big shock of the financial crisis; they started facing a disastrous influence on
deflation. Deflation was the reduction in the price of goods and services, which was an indication to
show that the economic conditions were bad at that moment. In this essay, I would focus on discussing
how deflation impacted the commodity market and the labor market and how to use policies to relieve
the deflation. Deflation Impact on the Commodity Market Recently, we found that the oil price
dropped a lot; one year ago, a barrel of Brent crude cost $110 and today it was merely $60, which
resulted in 45% decrease in the oil price through economies. Not only did the oil price cut, the price of
goods and services also dropped in the worldwide economy. When the price of goods and services
declined, consumers would like to consume more and purchase more products, because they could pay
less to get the same thing as before. And for firms, cheaper inputs lowered the cost of manufacturing
goods, which resulted in the increase in the overall profit. What s more, we all know that energy use
(oil) is

Gustav Mahler And His Fifth Symphony
Gustav Mahler and His 5th Symphony By the end of the 20th century, Gustav Mahler had established
himself as one of the most loved and frequently performed symphonists of the modern era. Audiences
enjoyed his work for the energy and emotion conveyed through each and every performance of his
symphonies. Due to his particularly rich and provocative writing style, Mahler has become the
influence of composers since his death and continues to remain at the forefront of modern musical
symphonic consideration. According to modern records, Mahler was born July 7, 1860 in a small
village in Bohemia. However, some scholars suggest that he and his family actually celebrated his
birthday on the 1st of July each year (Stefan 9). He was of Jewish descent and the second of his
parents fourteen children, although more than half of his siblings did not survive infancy (Stefan 9).
Mahler s Jewish heritage would later become a hindrance to his career due to politics of his given
region. Nevertheless, Mahler grew up under his father, who ran a local business, and had a nurturing
family life (Stefan 12). Like many other great composers of the past, Gustav Mahler was a fantastic
musician even as a child. He began his musical endeavors at the age of four but discovered the piano
later at age six. He was skilled to the point that he acquired a student of his own before he turned
eight. He made a flattering wage of one cent an hour during this period of his career (Stefan 12). The

Upward Mobility
Melessa Favreault in her report titled discrimination and upward mobility, aims to determine if racism
upsets upward mobility particularly among African Americans. For this report, Melessa defines racism
as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal justice system, or
market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an ascribed characteristic, like
age, race, or gender (1). The report exemplified that in fact, among African American families,
downward mobility is more expected than upward mobility, residential segregation is a threat to
upward mobility, and discrimination is present in both labor and housing markets.
Institutional racism is partly to blame for the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A subject that is more thoroughly touched upon in the textbook. According to the textbook,
segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging to
the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these
communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and
unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality
schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime
(299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high
exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The report
states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and one of the
most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of acknowledgement
of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in perceptions of the prevalence
of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view discrimination as a problem (4). As long
as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much its prevalence is denied, institutional racism
continues to promote unequal opportunity among the African American population in America.
Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of
African Americans. Racist practices towards blacks in the capitalist housing market strikingly lessons
prospects of upward mobility by promoting racially segregated neighborhoods that offer less in the
way of social infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals and subject residents to crime and

San Pedro Pellado Volcanic Complex by Davidson, Ferguson,...
Subsequent research focusing more solely on the San Pedro Pellado Volcanic Complex by Davidson,
Ferguson, Colucci, and Dungan (1988) provides evidence that some degree of crustal assimilation has
had an impact on the evolution of magmas in the volcanic complex. The evidence for this is the high
δ^18O observed in fresh non glassy rock units. Taylor and Sheppard (1986) argue that the differences
in characteristics among rock units of the complex cannot be explained by the closed system
fractionalization of an unaltered mantle melt. The concentrations of the oxygen isotopes suggest that
the magmas that formed these igneous rocks have undergone some contamination with a crustal
component containing a higher concentration of 18O (Davidson et al., 1988). The occasional presence
of granitic xenoliths in the lavas and tuffs, such as the Pellado unit, are also indicative of some level of
crustal contamination. These xenoliths are enriched in large ion lithophiles and have similar
concentrations of REE as the underlying basement material and are therefore believed to be pieces of
the underlying basement of the volcanic complex (Davidson et al., 1988). For the granites to be
included into the melts as they rise through the crustal material indicates there is some degree of
interaction between melts and crustal material. In addition to alteration by crustal contamination, the
magmas of the San Pedro Pellado Complex were also likely subject to alteration by magma mixing

Air Mass Research Paper

Final Essay 1/3
Air Masses: Types and Characteristics
An air mass is an extremely large body of air with temperatures and moisture characteristics that are
relatively similar in a horizontal direction. Air masses form in air mass source regions where winds are
light or nonexistent. This allows air to stagnate for a long period of time, thus forming an air mass.
Given this, air mass weather characteristics are largely determined by the surface over which they
develop. Air masses can form over land or water, generally falling into (5) categories which include:
Continental polar (cP), Maritime polar (mP), Continental tropical (cT), Maritime tropical (mT) and

Operas of Mozart Don Giovanni Essay
Donna Anna, Donna Elvira Zerlino
Mozart s Don Giovanni
The choice of the Three women of Don Giovanni can give a good understanding of the type of music
which was used to create an opera in the 18th century Italy. The opera buffa was a comic opera with a
funny story line and light music. Mozart wrote at different levels. In order to have full understanding
of the women s roles, it is necessary to understand the social context of women in the 18 century. In
Kristi Brown s Mozart s Women she compared Donna Anna to a misfortunate Spanish maiden. It was
very common for composers to take the style of where they were living at the time and write in that
genre of music. Donna Anna was daughter who was to be married. The role was ... Show more content

His wife would forgive him for his philander with servant girls but not with educated or artistic

Italy, it was quite common to have extra marital affairs for both men and women. Discretion was the
only rule that was demanded by the upper society to which Don Giovanni never adhered. Donna
Elvira had a love hate relationship with him. He would not have been able to access her rooms.
Donna Anna would have had a waiting room with a man servant or her lady in waiting attending to
her. It would have been highly unlikely that she, who had a fiancé, put herself in a position of having
truly been violated. This is where Mozart is making the point of a woman having to put on social
graces. Donna Anna shows her intelligence in her coming down in a fury and singing in the duet with
Don Octavio how she wants revenge . (Act I) It was not a physical affront, it was an affront to her
intellectual dignity that he should be able to reach her inner sanctuary. In a more symbolic
interpretation, perhaps Mozart was doubting Donna Anna as a bride or maybe the opposite. Mozart
liked a strong, intelligent woman who set the rules. Donna Anna will not get married until Don
Octavio revenges her father. He shows himself to be weaker than she is. This is usually the role of the
man, but Mozart reverses the male role as a female role which is a theme he often

Isaac s Storm Book Review
Isaac s Storm, is a tale of self confidence. This Hurricane in 1900 in Galveston was the worst and
deadliest hurricane this country has ever seen. About 6,000 people lost their lives and among those
who died was Isaac Cline s wife. I can tell how guilty he must have felt and how horrific this time was
for Cline, especially because he thought a massive storm could never devastate his amazing city. The
horrific events of what happened in Galveston is only partially told in this book. Erik Larson s use of
Cline s own letters and reports show Cline s own self confidence or pride and falsifies facts that Cline

How Did Thurgood Marshall Influence Civil Rights
What if segregation was a part of our everyday lives, as common as it is to brush one s teeth. Thanks
to Thurgood Marshall, today s generation will never know the horrors of segregation and extreme
racism. Thurgood Marshall was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, the court s first African
American justice. Marshall experienced segregation growing up, going to exclusively black schools.
When applying to a school that was below his league yet being rejected because of his color, he made
it his mission to seek civil rights. he guided the litigation that destroyed Jim Crow segregation and
crafted a distinctive jurisprudence marked by uncompromising liberalism, unusual attentiveness to
practical considerations beyond the formalities of law, and an indefatigable willingness to dissent (

The Moral Heroism Of Antigone By Susan B. Anthony
Humans are born with the potential to achieve greatness and to create a difference in the world.
Though individuals possess the capacity to prove the immorality within them, they also possess an
inner hero that is capable of performing tremendous good for the benefit of others. However, seldom
do humans actually embrace the courage to stand up for their ethical principles and to challenge the
existing social standards that are organized under strict leadership. Famous figures from Susan B.
Anthony to Rosa Parks drew their moral heroism from the heroic action of characters in Greek
literature such as Sophocles s Antigone. The protagonist, Antigone, creates a conflict between her
allegiances to political law and morals when the Theban king Creon decrees that the body of his
nephew, Polyneices, remains unburied. To Creon, it sets a substandard example for the future of
Thebes because Polyneices attacked his native city in a battle against the invading army of Argos.
Since the morals of Antigone have a close connection with true justice and human well being, she
defies Creon s laws and vows to give the proper burial rites to Polyneices as they were presented to
her brother Eteocles. Antigone s sacrifice to bury her brother results from a need to embrace family
pride, a feeling to satisfy the gods desires, and a responsibility to represent the Theban citizens.
The honor that Antigone wants to maintain for her family, coupled with the irreplaceable nature of
family, outweigh her

Gandhi Critique vs Rabindranath Tagore´s Views
Gandhi Critique: Rabindranath Tagore The term the Indian independence movement refers to the
progressive undermining of British Imperial rule in India during the late nineteenth century and early
twentieth century. Though the effort was collective in nature, being that it was popular among the
population of India, the means by which many intended to gain their freedom varied greatly. There
were many competing political approaches to this movement, but among them all, the messages of
Mohandus Karamchand Gandhi, otherwise known as Mahatma Gandhi, emerged as the most
prominent. His teachings concerning how they, the people of India, must attain Swaraj, self
governance free from foreign input where power and wealth were to be distributed more equally, were
founded under a few core principles and beliefs which stressed a multitude of subsequent practices.
With publicity comes scrutiny and Gandhi was no exception. One of Gandhi s foremost critics was his
friend Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a Nobel Prize winning writer. Though highly controversial at the
time, the methods employed by Gandhi proved to be instrumental to the progress of this nationalist
movement. Gandhi lived his life, and encouraged others to do the same, with his philosophy of
satyagraha: observing a nonviolence of the mind, by seeking truth in a spirit of peace and love, and by
undergoing a rigorous process of self scrutiny (Britannica). Some favored radical violence, but Gandhi
remained true to his writings,

The True Lesson Of 1984
1984 is a renowned dystopian novel that depicts an oppressive, dark English society where English
socialism is fervently adopted by the central government, also known as the Big Brother. However, the
fundamental notion of this political philosophy, which is to overcome the greed, waste,
competitiveness, and inequality as described in the article The True Lessons of 1984, are distorted and
trimmed down into three sacred principles: Newspeak, Doublethink and Mutability of the past. The
incidental appearance of totalitarian dictatorship that comes with such philosophy, on the other hand,
is almost inevitable, for socialism is an ideology that essentially is against the human nature as well as
repressing the instincts. In the article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the general public, on the other hand, there are also such treatments that are used to influence
people in the means of propaganda, espionage, and falsification. After letting Oceanian citizens deny
their own nature, the second step Big Brother takes, is to have them deny the existence of the truth.
Schlueter mentions, based upon Bacon, that Baconian science rests on the assumption that reality
conforms to the mind, not the mind to reality and remarks afterwards, This is not far from the claim
that the mind makes reality. To deny the reality, is to deny one s sanity and senses. How many in total
is two fingers plus two fingers? 3? 4? 5? As suggested by the Big Brother, it can be whatever number
one wants it to be as long as he thinks about it subjectively. People can create anything in their mind
with or without any factual information. As a result, doublethink and mutability of the past are
introduced. Since laws of nature are essentially unalterable, doublethink manages to instill a sense of
duality to it, making people believe its contradictory characters. In the book, for example, O brien
makes Winston, who have the scientific knowledge about gravity, to believe that he is actually floating
above the ground. Therefore, doublethink requires absolutely no factual information whatsoever.
Falsification of the past is the another mean that Big Brother uses to distort the truth in people s mind
by providing them with facts that have been

For those who re basing their vote on sovereignty: straightaway, I will clarify that already the United

Westminster is the only lawmaking authority in this country. The EU is not a sovereign state.
The EU only has the powers that it s gifted under the EU treaties. If you find judicial systems

Supernatural Elements Of Macbeth By William Shakespeare
Supernatural Forces In Macbeth 1)Even today people struggle with whether or not to believe in
supernatural forces, such as ghosts or witchcraft, but those who would admit that they let the
supernatural guide their behaviors and predict their futures would be harder to find. 2) Shakespeare s
play, Macbeth, takes place during medieval times when many people believed strongly in the presence
and power of witchcraft and in the supernatural. 3) In Macbeth, Shakespeare uses three witches, a
floating dagger, and Banquo s ghost, as supernatural forces which increasingly motivate and influence
Macbeth s actions as the play progresses. Near the end of the play, Macbeth becomes so influenced by
these forces that almost all of his actions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
11)Shakespeare uses the supernatural as a constant underlying theme of the play, with the witches
words placing the idea of greater power and fame in Macbeth s head, but Macbeth makes his own evil
choices in pursuit of his originally noble goal of becoming King.
4)Another form of the supernatural Shakespeare uses is the floating dagger Macbeth sees before he
commits to killing King Duncan. 5)The floating dagger, covered in blood, symbolizes evil, and leads
Macbeth to go forward with his plan to kill Duncan. As Macbeth questions whether he should commit
the murder, he sees a bloody dagger appearing before him with the handle pointing towards his hand,
and he speaks Come, let me clutch thee (Shakespeare 2.1.41 42). 6)Macbeth s doubts about killing the
King disappear, as Shakespeare uses the dagger to lure Macbeth towards King Duncan s room.
7)Macbeth sees the dagger as a sign, that he is being led by the supernatural to commit the murder, but
really he is only following his own greedy desire to become King. 8)The floating dagger appears to
hypnotize Macbeth, because he confesses mine eyes are the fools o the other senses (Shakespeare
2.1.52). 9)Shakespeare has Macbeth kill Duncan to illustrate a change in Macbeth as he grows more
evil in pursuit of his goals. Macbeth becomes more dependent on what he believes the

Dian Fossey took her first trip to Africa in September of 1963. It cost her an entire life savings plus a
loan. It was during this trip that Fossey fell in love with the mountain gorillas, so she returned to
Africa in 1967 and set up her Karisoke Research Station in Rwanda. At the research station, she had
many helpers, but it was her selflessness and drive that made the project possible.
It took some time for Dian Fossey to build a strong bond with the gorillas. At first, her main focus was
tracking them. However, when she got close to them, they would shy away. After watching patiently
from a distance for a while, the gorillas began to accept that she was not a danger, allowing her to

Canada Is Not A Free, Country We Can Compare Brian...
Understanding what it means to be free and determining whether Canada is indeed a free country we
can compare Brian Tamanaha s four themes of liberty from On the Rule of Law to see if Canada
shares similarities with that of what Tamanaha speaks of. In On the Rule of Law Tamanaha refers to
the four themes of liberty, being political liberty, legal liberty, personal liberty, and institutionalized
perversion of liberty, which he notes as characteristics of beneficial sacrifices that we give up as free
individuals for personal security and social order. Living under laws can limit the full extent of
freedom that we may have as people, but it can also be noted, that with no laws we are potentially a
danger to ourselves and others. In modern society, primarily democratic societies, having no laws is
simply not a reality so when we do give up our freedom, this exchange for stability must be beneficial
to us and not an agreement to live under state oppression. Observing the way Canada is formed and
while we are not entirely free living under Canadian laws, however, due to the country s incentives
taken to ensure that our basic liberties are secured it be seen that citizens indeed benefit from the
sacrifices they make limiting their freedom, yet still being free to a certain degree. 1 Analyzing
Tamanaha s four themes of liberty the first theme he mentions is political liberty which can be defined
as self rule being essentially the ability to be ourselves the

Hernan (also Hernando or Fernando) Cortes was born in Medellin, Estramadura, in Spain in 1485 to a
family of minor nobility.
Cortes was sent to study law at the University of Salamanca. In 1501 He left school to fight in a
military expedition but became ill and was forced to stay behind. In 1504 he left to seek fortune in the
West Indies, eventually joining Diego Velazquez in the conquest of Cuba. Velazquez was a Spanish
soldier and administrator who would later become governor of Cuba. Cortes persuaded Velazquez to
give him the command of an expedition to Mexico. And this is the beginning of Cortes legacy.

In June, fighting erupted in the capital. One night was named quot;Noche Trista quot; meaning sad

In Mexico City, things became more Spanish. Many Africans were brought over as slaves and even

Performance Management Initiatives For The Public Sector...
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
Countries around the world have embarked on public organisational reforms to improve their
performance and improve service delivery. The key reform in state corporations has been the
introduction of performance management systems but only few countries have successfully
implemented the same and got positive results Performance management initiatives were put in place
to tackle issues and concerns that organisations have on performance (Sharif, 2002).
Majority of countries are seeking to develop a culture in the public sector that is more performance
oriented , one that gives much focus to efficiency, effectiveness, quality Customer care, an increased
focus on results as well as more decentralised management (Petrie,2002). In the last two decades
performance management in the public sector has shifted its focus to putting in place systems for
measuring outputs and rewarding results (Heinrich, 2003).
Performance Management initiatives are used to enhance employee s productivity through managing
their performance (Poister, 2003).Performance management initiatives are very important in the public
sector of many developing countries where the productivity has been low and the workforces continue
to work under vague job specifications and muddled lines of accountability. In many public sector
organisations individual and organisational performance are seldom measured and staff are paid low
salaries that do not relate

Attivation Of School Observation
General Information My Observation took place on 09/21/17. I arrived at 9:00am and departed at
12:30pm. I went to a Head Start program which is a public institution. The grade level that I observed
was Pre K and the children were around four years old.
Staff
In the program, there was one teacher and one teacher s aide. The class had sixteen children. The
Staff/Child ratio was 1:8 which means they had an adequate amount of staff for the children. There
were nine girls and seven boys in the classroom.
Activities
When the children arrived to Head Start the first thing they did was to go to a bin that had their names
in it. They searched for their names and tried to write it on a piece of paper which is counted as
attendance. After they wrote their names they picked what job they had that day which includes
teachers helper, bell ringer and other options. They then participated in organized play with specific
toys as they waited for the rest of their peers to arrive. They then ate breakfast and after participated in
a large group lesson containing children pointing out the first letters of their names. After the group
lesson, they had free play and then went outside to the playground. Interaction Upon arrival, the
children are encouraged to find and write their names which the teacher s aid was very attentive. She
helped the kids whenever they needed help writing, which is an example of scaffolding. Teachers
encourage and assist children in their own efforts to write (Bredekamp Copple, 2009, p.169). She also
praised them when they finished writing their names and encouraged them to pick a job of the day on
the job board. The teacher and the teacher s aide often referred to the children as their friends .
Whenever a child needed help they would say My friend, what can I help you with? . Referring to the
children as this created a pleasant environment and most likely made the children feel as though they
are loved. After writing their names and picking their jobs children are encouraged to play with
specific boxes of toys at the tables. The toys were mostly building toys that children can make
something out of. The teacher would sometimes show the children different things they could build

Gaucher Disease Types I, II, IIi
Gaucher Disease Types I, II, III
Gaucher Disease is a type of lysosomal storage disorder. The importance is that they are meant to keep
everything in order. Lysosomes are microscopic organelles that have a primary function to serve as
digestion compartments. According to Davidson, (1) lysosomes help break down many different
materials such as fats, proteins, waste products, and more to transfer those compounds to become new
cell building materials . Consequentially, making lysosomes an important factor to our daily functions
in life. Lysosomal storage diseases form due to the modification of lysosomal enzymes. The diseases
can be metabolically inherited through gene mutation. In Lysosomal Storage Disease , Michael Kruer

In fact type two and three effect the brain and spinal cord becoming very serious. In contrast, Type
three is not as quick to become evident in young children. Similar to type one, type three can show up
later in childhood, and take longer to progress into worse symptoms. Sadly, infants that are proscribed
with type two disease normally don t live to see the age of three. Type two disease quickly takes effect
over a person, not allowing the chance for growth into adulthood. The most severe Gaucher s disease
is Perinatal lethal, which can kill an infant in a matter of days after being born. The causes for
Perinatal lethal, according to Web MD (3) are, too much fluid in baby s body before or after being
born, dry skin, enlarged liver and spleen, and severe brain and spinal cord problems. Because of these
problems an infant will not be capable of having much of a chance to grow and mature, due to the
weakness of being a fragile newborn.
Ages that symptoms begin, normally vary due to what type of disorder the person has. The main
problem with lysosome diseases are that they are genetically inherited. Which means, that mothers and
fathers genetically carry some type of disorder and pass it down to their children. Because of this
being caused by genetics, symptoms will normally begin based upon what type of disorder that is
inherited. Which makes it hard to know at what age symptoms will

Fool Proof Cookies Research Paper
Nearly everyone loves a sweet treat once in a while, and many claim that the chocolate chip cookie is
one of the best. In fact, nearly seven billion chocolate chip cookies are consumed in America each
year. With that many cookies being made, numerous ways of creating this baked good have arose. The
most common form of baking cookies is from scratch, but a simpler and more prompt way is by
utilizing a box of cake mix in place of the dry ingredients. With a small amount of time and a few
basic baking components, anyone can throw together these remarkable cake box cookies.
In regard to baking this special cookie, the baker must first start with the correct elements. The cook
must have the best ingredients to begin, and all of the baking items can be found in most grocery
stores. A box of Betty Crocker s yellow cake mix, a twelve ounce bag of semi sweet Hershey s

Gangsta-Funk History
In the late 1960s, a genre of music by the name of Funk arose from a mixture of Jazz, Soul, Rhythm
and Blues. Funk provided thousands of nightclubbers with funky chords and electric rhythms to dance

Boogie, Electro funk, Funk metal and the notorious, Gangsta Funk. Gangsta Funk or G Funk for short,
is a subgenre of Hip Hop invented in the early 90s on the mean streets of Los Angeles, California. The
central pioneers of G Funk can be argued, but to keep it short, Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg

Analysis of the Poem The Weary Blues
Poem Analysis The Weary Blues This speaker gives a detailed description of listening to a blues
musician in Harlem. This poem has a mournful tone and tempo of blues due to its diction, repetitive
lines and inclusion of blues lyrics thus, giving the reader an appreciation of the state of mind of the
blues musician in the poem. In the poem, the poet incorporates several literary devices to assist in
upholding the theme and tone of the poem. The main theme in this poem is the importance of music in
human s daily lives; music is used to guide mixed emotions, express joy and happiness, describe
personal issues or as a means to release anger and frustration. Langston in his poem gives
consideration to the elements of blues music in the entire poem. Words associated with music, melody
and tune are used to describe the night, the blues and the piano player. The sound of the music is
described as a mellow croon as the piano player sings the tune o those weary blues. The raggy tune
and melancholy tone portray music that is sad, sobering, and grim. The colloquial language used in the
poem captures the readers attention while the diction used emphasizes the musician s societal
disposition while highlighting his frustrations; Ain t got nobody but ma self. I s gwine quit my frownin

Hunger Games Essay
When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into
fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is
greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character
Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as
tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s
shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. Her family consisted of
her mother, who suffered severe depression after the death of her husband, and her younger sister Prim
who meant the world to her. She inherited hunting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, Katniss volunteered to take her sisters place in the hunger games when Prim s name was pulled
at the reaping. She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an awful situation
and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when they were too weak to
fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated throughout the novel. This
was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately
without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure
Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I
push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how
Katniss stood up for her sister and fought for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and
she risked it all for her. Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As
soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same
district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her
power to assure his survival. When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much
time and effort in making him better. At one point she even risked her own life to obtain medicine that

Essay on Elsie and Her Mother in Oranges Are Not the Only...
Elsie and Her Mother in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit
In a story of a young girl coming of age and finding her sexuality in a very religious community, it is
key to have a female figure that plays a key role for the character. A mother should play the key role
but what happens when this role is confused with a very spiritual role? Where will a young girl turn to
when her life goes against the rules society has set for her?
Jeanette has lived a sheltered life with no influence on her except for the church. Her mother is a strict
Christian with a deep resentment for things and people not within her fold. Being brought up in a
society where going against the norm is a sin. A society that shakes its head at acts of individualism
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These differences between these two women are what make Jeanette a rounded person, if not a
confused one at first. Jeanette gained a sense a self with her mother. She knew she was to work with
the Lord and teach his words to others. Her goal in life was to go and be a missionary, to teach others
how to believe in God. Combined with this imbedded sense of self is the confidence Elsie gave her.
Elsie not only understood
the word of the Lord and came from within the society Jeanette grew up in, she had a sense of the
world around her, that the world didn?t start and stop with the preaching of the Lord. Elsie gave
Jeanette a feeling of fellowship, a deep friendship that was based on true feelings, not the Lord.
In one part of the book Elsie helps Jeanette with the transition of home schooling, which was based on
biblical texts, to public schooling. Elsie gave Jeanette a way of incorporating her biblical background
into a public school setting, even if it did shock and raise eyebrows. The older woman gave Jeanette a
much needed avenue to express herself. At this time her mother is not too upset with the friendship.
She likes the reaction Jeanette is getting from her religious art works and other biblical oddities that
seem out of place in public school. Elsie is still seen as a fellow follower, a follower of Jeanette?s
mother.
The relationship between Elsie and her mother gets strained after Jeanette is

A Thousand Peaks Vs. The Maids Of Honor
At first glance, the 17th century paintings of the Baroque period, India, and China may not have much
in common, but upon closer inspection there are relationships and divergences to consider beyond the
surface. These details can be seen between Bichitr s Jahangir Preferring a Sufi Shaykh to Kings, Wang
Hui s A Thousand Peaks and Myriad Ravines, and Diego Velázquez s Las Meninas (The Maids of
Honor). While each carries the style of its own location of origin, they all showcase influence and
subject matter similarities and differences worth making note of, most specifically the presence of
duality in focus within the paintings.
The first painting is 17th century art from India, Bichitr s piece depicts Jahangiri being seated among

(Sullivan).
The third of the paintings stemming from the Baroque period done by Velázquez is one of his many
works for the court, setting the tone in the particular area, while not extending much further (49,
Bazin). The court employing Velázquez was that of King Philip IV, with the focus of this painting
being the king s daughter. This particular piece has not only the artist himself depicted, the children of
the court scattered about, but also a mirror in the back showing the King and Queen standing as the
painter is depicted to be painting their portrait. Each point of attention draws way from the former,
then pushing to the next in a cycle of focus. Once Velázquez started using almost strictly the style of
portraits, he mastered the art using the available means to the fullest. The painting at hand in particular
uses his mastery of portraiture to the fullest in varying who is being painted and their positions on the
canvas (59 60, Bazin).
Each painting draws influence from their individual location of origin, mostly in subject, to appeal to
the patrons of the time. While each piece was created within the 17th century, there are obvious
differences from place to place in how they were meant to be created. This is evident in the materials
used for the paintings, Velázquez s piece being oil on canvas, Hui s being a hanging scroll consisting
of ink on paper, and

Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia
Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia
Central Asia is associated with seven countries: Western China, Southern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan,
Kyrgyzstan, northeastern Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. Central Asia has many sub
regions, a wide range of altitude belts, and surrounded by some world s highest mountain ranges, such
as the Tien Shan and the Pamir, the latter is known as the roof of the world . The mountains of Central
Asia have a high level of biological diversity due to its ecosystems, populations, and species because
of its unique geographical locations. The mountains play the role of the origins for many varieties of
domesticated plants and animals (Yessekin, 2005). There are around 5,500 plant species, of which 27
percent are endemic, 143 mammal species including 6 endemic species, 489 bird species with no
endemic species, and 27 freshwater fishes including 5 endemic species. The climate of the Central
Asia is generally arid, but there are still wide ranges that include glaciers, semi desert, steppe, and
desert climates. The majority of precipitation in these areas is supplied by subtropical winds and
storms from the Mediterranean Sea that give precipitation mainly in winter and spring. It varies from
1,500 millimeters on the west side to less than 100 millimeters in the Eastern Pamir, which is the
closest spot to the Taklamakan Desert (Conservation International, 2008). In addition, there has been a

Post Secondary Public School Systems
Applying this reactionary philosophy of organizational change to post secondary public school
systems is the exact jumpstart that this environment truly needs. Indeed, this particular approach is
especially applicable to post secondary public school systems because it places a strong focus on the
change aspect of organizational change, taking steps to improve with every failure. This is useful
because this environment is one of live and learn. That is, post secondary public school systems
oftentimes rely on management theories that must be tweaked and changed as weaknesses or flaws
emerge in them. On the other hand, this particular organizational change theory would essentially
anticipate these failures, and pre construct varying concepts and theories around these failures,
essentially preparing for them before they even occur (Weick Quinn, 1999). Essentially, as research
into what, exactly, constitutes organizational change continues to advance, so, too, will the
possibilities within post secondary public school systems. Yet, on a more specific note, four key
theories have emerged that can be directly applied to post secondary public school systems. The first
of these are life cycle theories, which possess an event sequence of start up, grow, harvest, terminate,
and start up, with a generative mechanism of immanent program or regulation (Weick Quinn, 1999).
This organizational change sub theory is important because it sets things up in a cyclical fashion,

Negative And Negative Effects Of Pollination
Pollination is responsible for keeping humans alive. But many underestimate what pollination does for
them, and how complex it is. There are mainly two types of cross pollination and that is generalist
pollination, where different species of pollinators go to the same flower, and specialist pollination,
where a species of flower relies on a single specie of a pollinator. Flowers have adapted to the needs
of pollinators, but specialized flowers have adapted to suit the single specie pollinator that comes to
them. But because the flower only has this specie of pollinator, it can have both a negative and
positive effect on the plant and pollinator. Plants and pollinators have a relationship that helps keep
ecosystems alive, so they are very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another positive to selective pollination is that the animals that pollinate the plant will have a food
source that they will be able to get to, and if the animal spreads the pollen and increases the range of
the plant, the animals would have more food sources. When a flower is specialized, it has
opportunities to increase diversification rate, the range of pollen, and range of seed dispersal
(Armbruster, 2014). Angiosperms can also change which animal it specializes for (Niet et al., 2014).
The Costus is a plant that will permanently switch from a bee pollinator to a hummingbird because
hummingbirds can transfer pollen more efficiently (Niet et al., 2014). Angiosperms usually specialize
in a pollinator because it will benefit them, but it also benefits the pollinator because the flower can
give the pollinator rewards for coming, but sometimes specializing is not a good thing. Even though
selective pollination can be good, it also has some negative effects. Sometimes, selective pollination
can lead to reproductive isolation (Armbruster, 2014). This causes the species of plant to have to self
pollinate, which lowers genetic diversity and sometimes range. It can also affect the pollinator because
they have to find another food source, and if they don t, the pollinators can start dying off. Or if the
species pollinator starts to die off,

Political Leadership And The President Of The United...
Introduction There is a mind boggling question that has been floating around the American people
here lately. And the question is, What are the qualifications to construct a good political leader? When
you think about this, other careers such as law enforcement, health professionals, educators, and even
city transit drivers all have a more clear cut job depiction on how to be successful in that career, but
when it comes to the criteria for political leadership, one will find a vague description on how and
what to do, and the various loop holes in certain areas in politics. So this creates an even more
challenging task for people to define if a political leader is good or bad; and could possibly create a
divide across the nation. I personally feel that it would be a phenomenal notion to observe Mr. Barack
Hussein Obama II, our 44th President of The United States of America, without having any biased
views or opinions, to analyze the pros and cons of his 2 terms as our political leader and commander
in Chief. I would say that he is a strong transformational leader hands down just by assessing his years
in congress and his 2 terms as president. I can personally say that because I have a lot of areas under
his leadership that I agree with, and there some other areas that I do not agree with when viewing
some of his viewpoints. One accomplishment has gone unnoticed but is commendable. That s Obama
s flawless personal record. President Barack Obama has served longer than any

Society s Change in O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find
In her short story A Good Man is Hard to Find Flannery O Connor seems to portray a feeling that
society as she saw it was drastically changing for the worse. O Connor obvious displeasure with
society at the time the story was written is most likely her religious and conservative upbringing in the
old south. O Connor shows her point of view through an old woman named the grandmother. She uses
the grandmother to depict Evidence of society s demise is woven into the story, and presented through
an interesting generational gap between the old and the new (the grandmother and her family). O

Irony in this story is a key to upcoming events that take place. The symbols of irony in this story all
represent death in some way or another. The graveyard in the middle of a field, which had six graves
and it, was a family graveyard. The Grandmother remembering the old plantation house with the six
columns right after they passed through Tombsboro. The tower in which the family stopped to eat
(Red Sammy s) looked like a tomb. The car in which The Misfit drove looked lock a black hearse. The
grave that The Misfit dug with the tip of his shoe while talking with the grandmother symbolizes the
grave in which she is about to be put in. Finally the ditch in which the car runs into represents a grave
because they cannot get out and will stay there in that hole in the ground.
Throughout the story we see the events unfold and learn a lot about each character. The grandmother
is a self serving, manipulative, and righteous old woman that represents the old way of life. The
grandchildren represent the new way in which the grandmother does not approve. The Misfit
represents the evil in the world and how it affects both the old way as well as the new. Flannery O
Connor was deeply concerned with the values an the direction of the youth of her time. She believed
