Geographical Indications of Goods can help everyone - be
it an artisan, farmer or entrepreneur in ensuring collective
prosperity and preservation of indigenous knowledge.
Every state, moulded by its own history, has features and
products that lend a distinctive character and set it apart.
A geographical indication (GI) tag not only validates these
products but also elevates them to the crowning glory of
the region. NABARD recognises the importance of GI and
therefore, has rolled out a holistic scheme for supporting GI
registration and providing end to end solution. I am proud
to mention that as of today, 138 products from various states
supported by NABARD, have been included in the GI registry.
Incidentally, the first product that received a GI tag with
support from NABARD was Pochampally Ikat from Telangana
(erstwhile Andhra Pradesh). We shall continuously endeavour
to revive many more treasured products of Telangana through
GI registrations and post GI interventions.

ADILABAD
DOKRA
PRODUCT
Uniqueness
Crafted using the tradition-
al lost wax technique, each
Dokra metal item is made
from brass and is entirely
unique in design, shape,
and size. Since the mold is
broken after a single use,
exact replicas are impos-
sible—making each piece
one-of-a-kind and a true
collector’s item.
Quick Facts
Dokra Metal Craft is a traditional form of brassware
practiced by the Woj community in the tribal regions of
Telangana. It is renowned for its distinctive lost wax casting
technique known as “cire perdue”, wherein artisans first

form an outer clay mold. When heated, the wax melts away,
allowing molten brass to be poured into the cavity. Once
cooled, the mold is broken, revealing a unique creation.
Artisans primarily use pure honeybee wax, prized for
its superior strength and flexibility. Each item is entirely
handcrafted, and no two pieces are identical in design, size,
or finish, as the mold is destroyed after a single use. The
resulting products are joint-less and bear the hallmark of
individual craftsmanship.

are hand crafted and made
of colored lac. The products
display vivid creativity
of the artisans. Over the
years, the craft has been su-
perbly perfected reflecting

with their ancestral, cultur-
al, ethnic, historic, mystic
and religious subjects as
well as contemporary civic
and natural surroundings.

Hyderabad Lac Bangles is a meticulous art form that
demands the unwavering dedication of skilled artisans. This
intricate craft involves a series of painstaking processes,
each requiring an immense amount of effort, precision,
and patience. These artisans pour their heart and soul into
their work to ensure the production of the highest quality
final product, showcasing their exceptional talent and
commitment to their craft.
Hyderabad Lac bangles display vivid creativity of the
artisans in usage of crystal glass finished stones, as well as
the artistic use of colorful beads in their craft. In earlier
days, bangles studded with glass pieces alone were made
mainly because of nonavailability of stones and perhaps of
the lack of sufficient knowledge about the stone studded
designs. The ornamentation on the lac bangles was being
done only with masala (small pieces of shining aluminum
foils) zari, and also glass pieces.
