About This Presentation

The Hawthorne studies, which were conducted by Elton Mayo and Fritz Roethlisberger in the 1920s with the workers at the Hawthorne plant of the Western Electric Company, were part of an emphasis on socio-psychological aspects of human behavior in organizations.

Relay Assembly Test Room Experiments;- Relay assembly test room experiments were designed to determine the effect of changes in various job conditions on group productivity The relationship between supervisor and workers became close and friendly. productivity increased not because of positive changes in physical factors but because of the change in girls’ attitudes towards work and their work group. Productivity Decreased by the following Changes 1.Frequent rest intervals has been given-(girls complained) NO OF WORKERS :- 2 Girls

3. Mass Interviewing Programme ( 1928 and 1930 ) No of interviews conducted :- with About 20,000 employees Theme:- determine employees attitudes towards company, supervision, insurance plans, promotion and wages Reason for Conducting:- To Study The human behavior in the company.

4. Bank Wiring Observation Room Experiment : (1931-32) Workers involved in experiment:- 14 male workers Work given:- The men were engaged in the assembly of terminal banks for the use in telephone exchanges. Conclusion:- As a social being, they are members of a group and the management should try to understand group attitudes and group psychology Over Time=more wages More productive Group gets Bonus
