HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE & COUNTER MEASURES
CAUSES OF FALLING FROM HEIGHT Engineering factors – missing guardrails and safety harnesses, unreliable or unstable scaffoldings, floors, anchorage points, ladders etc., Process factors – mistakes in the method statement or operation procedures Psychological factors – fear, coordination , impairment, careless moves, unsafe behavior Weather factors – strong wind, extremely hot or cold temperature, rain, snow, fog, ice
Work location inspection to be carried out before starting the height work Permit to work system to be implemented strictly for height work activities Risk assessment (KY) training to be conducted before starting the work activity Site engineer / supervisor / safety officer to conduct Toolbox talk every day morning Work areas to be cordoned off before starting the work and provide a signboard. HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES
Do the housekeeping in the work location and remove unwanted materials The Supervisor should be present at the high-risk work location and do the close monitoring All the workers must undergo height work training Must be allowed trained and experienced workers to perform at height work HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES
HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES Fall Protection Ensure the working platform or edge is protected from falls Provide hand rail, mid rail, and toe board Do not use r ed and w hite tapes, Cable s , t i mbe r s, or r opes as barr i cades w he r e they involve openings ( f loo r / w al l ) w i t h heigh t s mo r e than 1.8 m e t r e as the f l i m s y barr i cade cannot w i t hstand a fo r ce r es i stant exc e eding 100 kg

LADDER SAFETY DO ’s Keep ladders in a safe condition Keep the area around ladders clear Ensure rungs, cleats, and steps are level and free from damage Keep ladders free of slipping hazards ONLY use ladders for their designed purpose DON’T S Don’t tie ladders together to make longer sections, unless designed for such use Don’t u se A-frame ladders as straight ladders Don’t u se ladders as a working platform Do not stand top two rungs. It can cause instability and increase the risk of falling HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES ✘
SHINRYO SUVIDHA ORIENTATION When using a ladder, you must always maintain 3-point contact and face the ladder When climbing up or down the ladder Keep your body centered within the ladder stiles Climb down from the ladder if you need to reposition it Only one person at a time on the ladder Use all rungs, don’t double–step or race up The ladder must have secure footing on level ground / Surface Secure the ladder at the top to prevent slipping & falling The top of the ladder must extend at least 1 meter (3 feet) above the landing platform or step-off point P R EV E NT LOSE I T EMS GE T T I NG STUCK HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES

Scaffolds shall be inspected by a Certified Inspector / safety officer before use The S c a f fold t ag sys t em s hall be u s ed S c a f f olds s hall be positioned on f irm and le v el gro u nd All sc a f f olds s hall ha v e fully bo a rded pla t f or m s All scaffolds shall have double guard rails and toe boards Green Tag – Safe to Use Red T a g - D o N o t U s e Scaffold under inspection ✘ CONTROL MEASURE: SCAFFOLD
Fu l l Bod y H a r n es s: Full Body Harness with double Lanyard with single shock absorber ( Self-locking / Double-action s nap ho o ks ) Full Body Harness required for any work at or above 1.8m When any worker risks a potential fall of 1.8 meters or greater When it is obvious that a fall of less than 1.8 meters could cause injury HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES
Lifeline: An anchoring wire rope rigged between two fixed anchorage points Facilitating the movement of a person with their full body harness or drop line anchored to it The lifeline is used when a person has to move horizontally or v er t i c ally over a long distance H o r i z on t a l L i f e l i n e V e r t i c a l L i f e li n e HEIGHT WORK PREVENTIVE / COUNTER MEASURES
