2. Verbs Like the sun , verbs are the energy of the sentence. A sentence cannot exist without them .

4. Verb A verb is an important part of a sentence. A verb is a word used to Express a certain action done by Somebody or Something. It also called a Doing Word. Examples 1. He Goes to the Circus. 2. Lara eats Fruit everyday.

5. A verb is also used to tell us the state or condition of somebody or something Examples 1. I am very happy today. 2. We are late for the circus.

6. Tense of a Verb A verb also tell us about the time of an action. The Tense of a verb denotes the time of an action. The present tense of a verb tells us about an action that is taking place now, or an action that happens regularly. The past tense of a verb tells us about an action that took place at some in the past. The Future tense of a verb tells us about an action that will take place at some time in the future.

10. Helping Verb A helping verb is a verb that helps the main verb tell about an action or make a statement. It helps tell when the action is taking place You will only have a helping verb when there is an action verb in the sentence that it is paired with in a phrase.

14. Main verb/ helping verb Two verbs work together to complete the meaning of sentence and denote the time of the action REMEMBER: The helping verb always comes before the main verb. The helping verb am is are was & were can simply used on their own as main verb that denote the state or condition of place or thing. The helping verb has have & had can be used on their own as main verb that denote action.

15. Activity i . Circle the action verbs in the following paragraph: Sports experts write about the football player Jim Thorpe even today. Thorpe blocked like a tank. He tackled like a tornado. In every game Thorpe attacked his opponents with all his might. He caught the ball skillfully and charged ahead fearlessly. Experts still remember and honor Thorpe’s greatness.
