NAINITAL HILL STATION The fact that  Nainital  is named after the Naini Lake speaks highly of its significance. This beautiful, stagnant pool of water in the heart of the city, is surrounded by seven majestic mountains and is a popular tourist attraction. The Kumaon Hills came under British rule after the Anglo-Nepalese War (1814–16). The hill station town of Naini Tal was  founded  only in 1841, with the construction of the first European house (Pilgrim Lodge) by P. Barron, a sugar trader from Shahjahanpur .

The word  Nainital means , “ Naini ”  meaning  “the eye” and “Tal”  meaning  “the Lake”. The word Naini is derived from the Goddess Naina , the temple was built on the upper edge of the lake however it got destroyed by the landside which took place in the year 1880.  Nainital  was earlier the summer headquarters of the British. Nainital  is one of the best hill stations in India fenced with green hills, old cottages, and a web of strolling streets. The town is  famous  for its various natural attractions and due to its favorable climate all year round.

However, the  best  time to  visit Nainital  is from March to June which is the summer/ spring  season  in the country. Most people want to escape the scorching heat in the country and prefer  visiting Nainital . For the snow lovers, a  trip  can be planned from late November to February which is the winter  season . If you are looking to cover just  Nainital  and Bhimtal , two  days  with one night's stay in  Nainital  is recommended. However, tourists prefer to visit nearby places (like other tals around) and that might add a  day  or two going by your pace of enjoying the nature.
