History of Microscopy

MICROSCOPY: Microscopy is the technical field of using microscopes to view objects and areas of objects that cannot be seen with the naked eye (objects that are not within the resolution range of the normal eye).

MICROSCOPE: A microscope is an instrument used to see objects that are too small to be seen by the naked eye.

HISTORY OF MICROSCOPE: During the 1st century AD glass had been invented and the Romans were looking through the glass and testing it. Two type of glasses were discovered. 13 th century first eye glasses made by scientist Salvino D’Armate . Early glasses has magnified power 6x-10x and also called flea glasses because firstly fleas and insect seen through this microscope. Salvino D’ Armate

In 1590 two scientist Z aacharias J anssen and his father H ans invent the microscope.

Galileo described the principles of lenses and light rays and improved both the microscope and telescope.

Robert hook’s (1635-1703) primitive microscope invent. 1665 in his book Micrograhia plant cork cells feature describe under microscope.

1632-1723 Anton van L eeuenhook he gained much of information from the Micrographic and invent microscope having magnification power 300x.

1830- Joseph Jackson reduced the chromatic effect and increase magnification.

1872- Ernst abbe wrote a mathematical formula abbe sine condition which help to maximize the resolution power of microscope.

1903- Richard Zsigmondy developed ultra-microscope. Noble prize 1925

1931-Ernst ruska developed the electron microscope.

1932- Frits Zernike invented the phase contrast microscope.

1981-Gerd Binning and heinrich Rohrer invented scanning microscope that give three image noble prize in 1986. Heinrich Rohrer Gerd Binning

In 20 th surgery done by using small needles and it is also take under the power magnifying glasses mixed with binocular vision for estimating depth.
